Takara Tomy have announced a new line celebrating 30 years of Transformers! The line is called Legendary Characters, and the first two figures have been revealed, LG01 Rattle and LG02 Convoy (Rattrap and Optimus Primal). Rattle is redeco of the new Transformers Generations Deluxe Rattrap, and Convoy is a reuse of the Ultra Class Beast Wars 10th anniversary Golden Disk reissue. Check out the official images below:

Huh, I'd skip on the Rattrap personally, but I've always wanted to get one of the two accurate Primals (The one being featured here and the Telemocha one)

Not sure where the red beast eyes are coming from (Call of the Wild? Just matching bot mode?), but the rest of Rattle's deco might be a bit more show-accurate. If Rattrap's case hadn't been split up for later and I had it in hand, I might be able to say for sure.

And his guns remain clear and unpaintable for this release too. Huh. This trend of softer plastic is really starting to concern me. Rhinox's butt was one thing, but it's starting to creep into places it needn't be.

awww. "Legends" made me think this might be a Legion/Cyberverse size line, and the BW bots would be great for that scale. if we'd gotten painted guns I'd probably be sold on Ratty, but as it is right now, I don't see it nice enough to pay the extra. Primal is ok, he's just Primal. But I'd like to see more from this line. I know it has potential, lad.

Well, looks like we have found the sequel to Japan's Generations, and the outlet for the current Generations

Optimus Primal is the one toy I am extremely annoyed I had given to my brother to play with. The gorilla face/chest panel has gone forever, as are most of the missiles and the mutant face. Everything else works perfectly fine, and he still resists on the shelf, but he's quite glaringly incomplete in both modes.

This might tempt me.. :-?

Sounds like this may be their new Generations line?

I'm not interested in either Rattrap or Primal (Got the TRU one a long time back with the accurate head and I'm happy with it). I am very interested to see where this goes from here.

Now, this is what I think of when I think of a 30th Anniversary line. "Thrilling 30" my ass! Not so thrilling when half of it is poopy repaints of crappy movie figures and a quarter of it is Asian market rereleases of the other quarter, which are impossible to get SDCC exclusives.

Unfortunately I don't see myself picking up either of these. The Rattrap, though more robot accurate, I think I prefer the Hasbro beast mode accurate one. And the Optimus is basically just a repaint of the 10th Anniversary remold of the original, which I already own both versions of. Would have preferred a new mold.

But I really hope they continue this trend and do more Beasties.

Takara, you're killing me here! I'm already having enough difficulty tracking down all your Telemocha figures and now you throw more new Beast Wars toys at me?! Have mercy, Takara! (:|

Bumblevivisector wrote:Not sure where the red beast eyes are coming from (Call of the Wild? Just matching bot mode?),
Rattrap's black rat eyes turned red whenever he was in robot mode:

This one is in scale with Rattrap, since that Rattrap is a BIG Deluxe.

The previous Japanese Deluxe Primal toy is already in scale with the others.

What we need is a taller Dinobot. :-B

I've fine with this Primal reissue. It's a great mold that still holds up well over 15 years later. I really doubt that the way Hasbro and Takara have been making figures lately they'd be able to top the original. Sure the gorilla mode is still a little wonky, but the updated bot mode really lets this figure shine.

Now if they wanted to make a bigger Transmetal Primal I wouldn't have a problem with that.

No, this one has the remolded robot chest/gorilla face. This is the more accurate one.

He's talking about the special "# of 30" releases, you can find the current list in this thread.

The one in the pics I posted is colored show-accurate.

But, it's shorter than Rhinox, when Dinobot was the tallest season 1 Maximal.

Im good with the size of deluxe dinobot. How many times did he fide on ratraps back ? He really doesnt need to be that big. A raptor is not a huge dino.

Rattrap got bigger as a Transmetal. Or at least bulkier, since all that extra bulk made him easier for Dinobot to ride (who was still rather hunched over and cramped whenever he rode the still smaller-than-him Rattrap).

Yeah, sorry. Meant the list of 30 special exclusive figures commemorating the anniversary, not the Thrilling 30 line aka Generations 2014. Haven't perused the thread, but according to TFWiki...
01 – SDCC 2013 Metroplex
02 – SDCC 2013 Prime: Beast Hunters Shockwave’s Lab
03 – Platinum Edition Ultra Magnus
04 – Platinum Edition Grimlock vs. Bruticus
05 – ACGHK 2013 Metroplex
06 – Cybertron Con 2013 Prime: Beast Hunters Shockwave’s Lab
07 – Cybertron Con 2013 Prime: Beast Hunters Beast Hunter Optimus Prime
08 – Masterpiece Acid Storm
09 – Masterpiece Soundwave
10 – Platinum Edition Predaking
11 – Construct-Bots Predaking
12 – Year of the Horse Platinum Edition Optimus Prime
13 – Year of the Horse Platinum Edition Starscream
14 – Age of Extinction First Edition Optimus Prime
24 – Age of Extinction Evolution 2-Pack Grimlock
25 – Age of Extinction Evolution 2-Pack Slug
26 – Age of Extinction Evolution 2-Pack Strafe
28 – Age of Extinction Smash & Change Silver Knight Optimus Prime
29 – Age of Extinction Silver Knight Optimus Prime & Grimlock
30 – Fan Built Bot Windblade

Granted, there's still 9 left to be revealed, and there's only 6 movie figures, and there's only a couple repeats, I'm still pretty underwhelmed when this is what we were promised:
Image
Of that teaser, all we've gotten is Whirl, Shrapnel, Laserbeak, and Rumble. Maybe Barricade if you count the TFCC version. And though most of the characters on this page I don't care about, I really would have wanted a new Greatshot/Sixshot figure. Defensor and Sky Lynx would have been cool too.

That's not a toy teaser. That's a teaser for the Transformers: The Ultimate Pop-Up Universe book. All that artwork was gathered together and put into that pop-up book.
