The earlier article didn't have any verbal explanation, just photos. BUT it looks to me like there are clips that hold the engines in. Guessing you could access from the back and un-clip them to remove, but inserting them again would be permanent again — unless you did a mod.

Very much a bummer that Takara didn't stick with the POTP design to retain the play value of the accessories. I'd love to swap engines in and out of that thing, but since it means actually modifying a quite-expensive figure, guessing I'll just enjoy swapping engines in the Hasbro one.

Where is these mod directions located? I went back 6 pages all the way back to blitzwing and even a slugslinger pic and couldnt find any of these photos other than the one on page 127 in response to my original question?

There are pictures here earlier in that show them, plus the mod to remove them, clip them and attach them to the backs of the Headmaster figures.

The attachment downloadfile-42.jpg is no longer available

Thanks ! Thats awesome ! This is one mod I might be tempted to do !

That's a mod I'm going to do. It looks pretty easy. One mod used modelling clay/putty to fill in the back of the engine plates, possibly to allow the screw to "bite" into something.

Edit:

- Just found these pics of the clones, and someone managed to find guns for them. You can see the Legends ones opposite their G1 versions. I've no idea where those new guns came from; Shapeways? From existing official toys? Anyone know?

Not sure, but Nonnef sells a set of 8 guns (2 for each clone) --

I havent tried thisyet, but I THINK it's this:

1/ Unscrew the back of the jet mode.
2/ Locate the teal "clips" that "hold" onto the back of the Titanmaster/POTP port (the cavity which holds the heads/engines).
3/ Carefully unclip the clips OR yank/cut them (depending if you will mod the Headmasters later or not).
4/ Remove the engines and screw it all back together.

To do the Powermaster mod:

1/ Unscrew the faceplates from the Gigas/Mega.
2/ Cut/sand away the three/four "arms" that pegged into the back of the aformentioned Titanmaster/POTP cavity/port.
3/ POSSIBLY remove the teal "head" on the engine blocks (as the figures already have heads), although this is an aesthetic choice at this point (but might affect head articulation on the Headmaster figs).
4/ Either superglue the contact points between the Headmaster and the engine block (and call it a day), OR add modelling clay or equivalent (epoxy putty?) to the hollow rear of the engine block and wait to dry, painting if desired. Again, add superglue to the contact points between the engine and Headmaster and affix. Once dry, put the screew back in the Powermaster (with the dried clay, etc now giving the screw something to "bite" into).

For the faceplates:

1/ Glue one of them behind the helmet, inside it.

OR

2/ Find a spare POTP/Titanmaster figure (or sand down a POTP "engine block", use clay, etc) and affix the faceplate to that, then pop it into the space inside the helmet.

Sepending on your choices, you can then have a fully functioning Powermaster AND a Headmaster, or a regular head, depending on your preferences.

It seems like a fairly easy mod, IMO. No pins!

Thanks! I printed them from a file (that was meant for the character you mentioned!) Chromed them and designed the connector to Sixshot's retracted fists.

Check this out.

Here's a few comparison pics between the new Legends Overlord and the 1988 original toy, and it turns out that not only is the Legends one more show-accurate that the Titans Return Overlord, but it's also more toy-accurate as well. That dark blue is way more closer the original toy's dark blue than Hasbro Overlord's bright blue, as well as the toes being colored purple like on the original toy:

Why didn't they make the holes for the Titanmasters the other way round? At least that way, the heads on the them would be pointing UP (like the original), instead of DOWN (in the new version). I doubt it would have been difficult to do...

That would have required a whole new chest piece at the very least, for a very insignificant detail. Why bother?

I meant, from the very beginning. Why didn't the original have this? It wouldn't have been hard and would have meant the figures looked correct. Using Headmasters would have looked silly either way, so there's no reason not to.

Because then the faces people would stick in there would be upside-down. While, yes, having faces in the chest at all is silly, having them upside-down would be *too* silly. :P

Arguably, being upside down would make them appear more abstract, and look better while in the chest, IMO.

I'd rather have had his flip out chest cannon but hey. The extra bend backwards torso joint is a weird feature over the sky shadow mold and probably good for flying robot poses. Fingers crossed for an upscaled KO version down the line but I'm definitely picking up the hasbro version to go with the Takara. Extra play features, brighter colors and cheesy armada style combining power with a duplicate toy, what's not to like.

Currently, I'm in the process of modding my Legends Overlord... The engine block/sprues are rather soft, so it's easy to cut them with pliers and sand them down. I tried using some spare sprue parts and super glue to fill in the hollow parts at the back of the engine, but it didn't work. I suspect I REALLY need to use modelling clay/putty to put the attached screw into. Otherwise, the Titanmaster's own little head sits loose in the figure and the blue faux "head" on the engine overhangs the actual head, meaning it won't fit into the engine.

Also, when removing the black back of Overlord, there are only two screws at the top (the wide end). You have to exert some correctly angled pressure to the bottom/thinner end of the back in order to separate it from the figure's front.

Not really a big problem, but I'd thought I would share it.
