Being OCD on my TFs, I'm still waiting for the Ocean Design decals to pimp the individual 'cons first.....as each of the 'cons are just as amazing as the D man himself......I haven't combined them yet.

Just an update on my Devastator. The hands have now become loose and droop, slightly, when holding the gun. It's off just enough to notice something doesn't look right. Also the elbows are starting to go and can't support the weight of the gun. I have to say for all the work Takara did I really think they needed to add ratchet joints in the elbows and the vertical swivel for the arms.

Hey Chuck, where do you have him? Up on a shelf, or just down and around? I have a spot reserved for him up on a high shelf. I haven't noticed any looseness yet, but he has also been broken down into indy bots for the last week or so.
Do you have him up high, and is the heat cranked?
It's always hotter up high, so I'm wondering if the temp could effect these joints.

Hmm good point. Speaking of heat effecting joints, it seems like high heat makes Dragstrip's shoulder joints really tight though so I am thinking that maybe Hellscream keeps his Dragstrip in too hot of a place. Maybe Heat effects Devastator's joints in reverse? What kind of plastic does it feel like Chuck? Dragstrip's shoulder joints feel like ABS plastic which would explain the stickyness over time of leaving him in a hotter room.

Though it may answer another, older question - "Why haven't HasTak done huge combiners?". This may be the answer.

If you got four rooks...and found a character for the torso...then you would get a tmnt combiner!

My Devastator BROKE


So, that it doesnt happen to you, I will say how it happened. I had him combined for a while. I had forgotten about the small tab that locks Scrapper's shovel. When I undid him, I just pulled the shovel down, breaking that tiny tab into a few teeny tiny pieces. Scrapper is currently in emergeny care while I try to glue the "larger" pieces together.

I am always scared about transforming any Transformers when I first get them even though I usually know the transformations for the most part from watching reviews. I'll surely try to be careful.

Yeesh. I'm sorry about that. At the risk of sounding like a total douche, I feel an "I told you so" is in order though.

Seriously, even with Takara's mold improvement magic I just KNEW Devastator was going to be fragile with all those thin plastic tabs made from...questionable plastic.

Yeah, its such a small detail, but it actually keeps the foot from sliding. I do find this to be a flaw since its a very small part and it enters by snapping in not really by tabbing.

Why is a told you so in order? I never said this guy was more solid than Hasbro's just that it had better articulation. This devy was never perfect to begin with due to the hallowness and thin parts with only Scrapper being an honest to good voyager I could see buying on his own. I just wanted to buy the best official devastator and the budget allowed for this takara one which is still leagues better than hasbro's. But yes, I would not have expected there to be such a small fragile piece like this. It offered little resistance (the same resistance as untabbing it).

I didnt know there were other reports. I dont really feel better but at least I am glad to know I am not a total moron to be the only one.

The more I think about it, the reports of breakage really show how odd a design choice this was. Everything else pegs in (arms, chest, legs), but that little part is just a snap, and its so darn crucial. It would have been better if the sides of the shovel pistons locked in at each edge of the foot instead.

Also, the fact that it shattered in several pieces means the plastic is brittle.

Well, let's get this thread a little more positive. My UW Devastator arrived and I love him.









And here he is with a really bad KO Devastator I picked up a few years ago. It's utter junk and I'm glad to no longer need it.

Love the self portrait. Good for you man! I really enjoy my hasbro Devastator, and it looks like your Takara one shall not let you down!
