Team Fortress 2

I'm surprised there isn't a popular TF2 topic out there already, but I went ahead and made one despite the shock.

I've just found TF2 and quite enjoy the Pyro class. I am currently a Free to Play noob, and I plan to stay on FTP, but hopefully I won't stay a complete noob.

So, has anyone else on these forums recently found out about/downloaded Team Fortress 2?

Does anyone have any funny TF2 vids?

How many times have you been backstabbed? (I've stopped counting)

Post it here!

I can play any class but the Scout. You can usually find me as a Pyro trying to Puff 'n Sting (light someone on fire before whipping out the Postal Pummler for free crits).

Every Class Is Different

I love this game.

Nuff said.

Everyone is hating on Pyro nowadays, but it seems you and I are like-minded in our love for the Pyro. Backburner + Flare Gun + PowerJack = Awesome

Does anyone happen to have the Familiar Fez up for grabs? I want that to complete my Saharan Spy set. (I already have the L'etranger and the Your Eternal Reward)

I have a pretty funny picture with a Sentry that just killed me, and a picture of a Trollface behind it. I lol'd.

I have lost count how many times I've backstabbed and gotten backstabbed. (Mostly by my friend >.<)

Also, does anyone have The Eviction Notice for trade? I want to complete my Heavy Loadout as well. ;)

Yes! I just got a hat on the FTP Version of TF2. I dominated someone wearing a Ghastly Gibus.

So far I have yet to get the Backburner, but yeah, the flare gun if very fun for long-range pyromania.

On this one capture the intelligence server I kept killing this one spy over and over again.
Spy hunting is too easy when ammo is of no consequence. (An engineer with a Level 3 Dispenser + an Ammo box, both near my patrol area)

You won't. You don't learn TF2 fast but you do learn it. It'll all come to you in time. Learn the tactics, which weapons work, which don't, most of all, read the wiki.

And for the love of Saxton Hale, don't go to the Steam forums.

Flakmaster wrote:So, has anyone else on these forums recently found out about/downloaded Team Fortress 2?

Playing since '09. That's right you freeloaders, I'm vintage. Sit down, kids, class is in session.

Flakmaster wrote:How many times have you been backstabbed? (I've stopped counting)

A lot. The game doesn't count for me, so after 630, I honestly have no clue.

Twitchythe3rd wrote:I can play any class but the Scout. You can usually find me as a Pyro trying to Puff 'n Sting (light someone on fire before whipping out the Postal Pummler for free crits).

I have all-Strange equipment for Pyro; Degreaser, Shotgun, Axtinguisher. (The Axtinguisher has the exact same stats as the Postal Pummeler, but looks waaaaaay cooler) Ever since I got that strange Axtinguisher, that's been my favorite tactic. It really helps that someone on a server I frequent vehemently hates Pyros.

If you prefer that tactic, and all good Pyros do, then you'll want a Degreaser, it was specifically made to simplify that.

Flakmaster wrote:Yes! I just got a hat on the FTP Version of TF2. I dominated someone wearing a Ghastly Gibus.

Though if you had been here for all three Scream Fortress events, your Gibus would have been upgraded from Ghastly, to Ghastlier, to Ghastlierest.

ALSO, if you spend $5 on your Steam account, not even inTF2, just a regular game, you are no longer F2P, and you're entitled to all the benefits of being a real player.

Flakmaster wrote:So far I have yet to get the Backburner, but yeah, the flare gun if very fun for long-range pyromania.

Ew on the Backburner. I know it got the airblast but at this point it's still the worst of all Pyro's weapons. Flare gun is okay, but I prefer Shotgun.

Important note: The Pyro is the natural predator of the Spy. Some Engies will even ask for your help specifically when dealing with a Spy.

Still, my favorite class is Demoman. I do things with Sticky Bombs that should be outlawed. I also got a nametag for the Crown hat, renamed it "The King of Burgers."

One of my best streaks was on 2fort, or maybe one of the 2fort mods. A Scout was taking our intel up the spiral, and I killed him because that's an easily defensible spot. I laid Stickies up and down the hall (Important Demoman note: Spread your sticky bombs around, they have much larger splash damage than you'd expect) only for another Scout to rush past me...and into my trap. Boom, dead. he had touched the intel, though, so the timer was restarted. Set another trap, then another Scout. I got 12 defenses and 21 kills by the time I died.

Just for fun, here's my stats. And for further fun, my backpack.

Now the fun begins. I've been playing since 08. Shadow and I play together a lot, so we tend to work well as a team. Personally I prefer the scout to everything else. Some people find him difficult to play, but this is mostly because he's not meant to be played the same as other classes. He has low health but fantastic speed, so the optimum choice would be to utilize hit and run tactics/running the intel/scouting ahead.

These tactics can be put to even greater use when combined with one of my favorite scout items, which is the Bonk. Most people consider this item less than useless, but it has some fantastic applications in your standard match, the most important of which is dodging sentry fire. Bear in mind, the scout cannot fire his gun while under the effects of bonk, but he is effectively invulnerable. If you can co-operate with another player on your team, you can utilize this invulnerability to draw sentry fire while your teammate takes it out. Shadow and I have utilized this tactic to great effect on many occasions. Another fun but rare application is the utilization of body blocking to stall an enemy ubercharge. If you find yourself in a narrow passageway staring down at a heavy/medic combo that has just deployed their ubercharge, slam a bonk and you can stall them long enough for a good majority of the uber to run out. Keep in mind, however that this tactic has met with limited success when I've done it, mostly due to the fact that it's hard to drink a bonk before the heavy's machine gun fire kills you. (this is even more difficult if the heavy should be using a tomislav.)

Another very important tactic of the scout is his double jump. The scout can change directions in midair using his second jump. This is very useful for confusing enemies and getting a few good shots in with your scattergun/force a nature. If you equip the scout with the atomizer or the FaN (or both) you can have up to four jumps at your disposal. These are also very useful for getting into hard to reach spots faster than other classes.

And the last scout tactic I would like to illustrate is my personal favorite, The sandman. I cannot stress enough how useful it is to stun an enemy, even for only a couple of seconds. This ability gives the scout ample time to close the distance on a tougher enemy and get in a few good hits. This can also be used to disable any potentially difficult opponents that might be giving the rest of your team some trouble. Giving you and your team the opportunity to gang up and take them out. However, this awesome ability comes with a price, in that the scout loses a fair chunk of health. Some people might not find this tradeoff to be worth it, it really all depends on how you play.
(it's also great for stopping soldiers and demomen mid-rocket/sticky jump if you aim it just right)

Heheh, I remember when the Sandman was nerfed so the stun shot went from complete immobilization to just limited mobility. You were worried that a stunned enemy would be able to lead you into a sentry nest, but I thought you were just being silly.

Cut to us ending up on opposing teams, you stunning me, and that exact thing happening. I have never laughed so hard from being wrong before.

We should play a game or two!

Hey, I'd like your opinion, which one is better, the Liberty Launcher, the Black Box, the Stock item or the Direct Hit?

I need the Familiar Fez so badly...

Would you trade your Bison and Cow Mangler, Shadowman?

Also, does anyone have the Familiar Fez?? Fez + Bowtie = Cool

We should.

#Sideways# wrote:Hey, I'd like your opinion, which one is better, the Liberty Launcher, the Black Box, the Stock item or the Direct Hit?

Black Box, totally. When it was first revealed, me and Tweezy believed it would be quickly nerfed. Several months later, it's still the same. The slightly smaller clip doesn't make a huge difference, three rockets deals out about 270 damage, enough to kill everything except a Heavy. At the same time, those three rockets heal you for 15 per rocket.

#Sideways# wrote:Would you trade your Bison and Cow Mangler, Shadowman?

That all depends on what you're offering. Something I really need is a Strange Sticky Bomb Launcher.

Awesome! A Doctor Who fan too!

Huh, I didn't remember there being a bow tie item.
EDIT: I looked the item up on the TF2 wiki. This may just make me to buy the game.

You don't have to buy the game, it's free. You'd probably have to buy the Dr. Whoa, though, since banking on an item dropping is just going to hurt.

Yeah, but last I checked to buy items/get hat item drops you needed to buy the full game. I know that you can get the basics for free, I've been playing it for the last week.

EDIT: Wait, with your first item purchase you get the full game too?
Or at least, that's what I think the Mann. Co. online 'store' is telling me.
Awesome.

You already own the full game. The $5 you spend only effects your Steam account. It adds the ability to add friends and trade things. TF2 is almost entirely unaffected. You don't even have to spend the money in TF2.

Actually, I'd recommend spending the money on Poker Night at the Inventory. It's the requisite $5 to unlock the various features on your Steam account, and it comes with five sweet TF2 items. Granted, three of those items are just reskins of regular items but they are sweet.

EDIT: Ah, after further research, having "free-to-play" on your Steam account does limit the number of drops you'd get in TF2. I can't imagine noticing a difference, though.

Also, why have none of you who have the ability to friend people sent me a friend invite over Steam yet?

I do run with the Degreaser acctually, and use the Postal Pummler just because it's funny to beat someone to death with a mailbox. I just need a Reserve Shooter now.

I've got a Familiar Fez my Spy isn't wearing. Looking for a Chargin' Targe or Splended Screen.

I've got a Chargin' Targe if you'd be willing to trade for it.

I really need that fez.

In particular? No, actually. I'm actually in a good place with everything. The only things I really want at this point are Stranges. And keys. And other things I know you aren't going to give me because I make insane demands. Just look through my backpack, find something you can spare that I don't have, and throw it at me.

#Sideways# for the love of God, stop revealing my secret identity. I mean, you don't see other superheroes strolling up to Clark Kent and saying "Oh, hey, Superman, what's going on?" They think my name is Melvin, that I am a Lord of Darkness, that I prefer Demoman but play Pyro just to piss off other people, adn that I never, ever shut up.

My bad, I am so used to calling you by your Forum name...

Good game by the way, I really enjoyed myself! My Pyro Loadout doesn't deal with other Pyros well, it works uberly in bigger battles, though. ;)

What blade are you using? I'm using a Strange Half-Zatoichi right now. No, you can't have mine. Yes, you CAN have one of my two spares if you offer me something nice. (Hit me up on Steam) Yes, I have three Strange Half-Zatoichi.

Reminds me of a funny story from way back. Right after the Eyelander was patched so you'd collect an enemy Demoman's head collection, a bunch of Demomen I was in a server with all started decapitating each other Highlander style. Eventually, it became a house rule that ONLY Eyelander-using Demomen could attack and kill each other. We ended up having a 40-something head pile before some jackass Heavy ruined it all.

I had and tried using the Half-Zatochi, but I like the Eyelander better. Slightly longer reach than the katana plus the stacking speed and health is nice.
