TFCC Punch/Counterpunch Head Replacement?

Has no one made one yet? Should I even have to be asking this question? The official head sculpt is nice, sure, but pretty darn small. I assumed it was only a matter of time before somebody got on fixing that. Apparently I was wrong. Anyone have anything to share? P/CP deserves better.

Doh! You got me all excited for a sec. I have a minor paint app issue on mine so beyond the small head, I'd like to upgrade for that reason, too.

I remember someone posting a very cool one from shapeways at TFW2005, I tried searching for it but could never find it (the guy who posted the picture never gave us a link).

That makes me sad. I want one too.

I wish they'd make a reprint.

Trade secret? Shapeways is pretty much crap. I appreciate the heads up on this though. I'm just gonna have to hope someone sees the profit in making a head.

I've always wanted some of their Targetmaster figs (chainsaw = awesome). But what's turned me off them is that there's no paint apps. And I suck at painting.

Where did you hear about them sucking?

From Sid who has ordered from them several times and had things either be unreasonably rough or parts simply shatter when working with them. He used parts from them for customs. If I remember right, he's trying to figure out something else to use for custom parts instead of Shapeways. I've yet to hear glowing reviews of the service they provide or seen anything that simply floors me enough to get anything unpainted. I'm thinking we're just gonna have to cross our fingers.

I have ordered from Shapeways quite a few times from several different designers (but always TF parts) and while design quality differs from designer to designer the product is 3D printed from whatever material you order it in. Different levels of plastic in black, white or translucent or even metal or glass in some cases. Sometimes there can be a little rough bits but that's the bonding medium and comes right off with barely any effort at all. If something out right shattered on someone, there could be two reasons:

1) Design flaw. Most of the people who create these are amateurs (ie: fans who want X to have a new Y) and didn't take certain stresses into account. Never order just based on design, always look to see if there are images of the finished piece.

2) The person who ordered it went with the cheapest material possible. If the designer suggests the harder plastic they did it for a reason. Saving a couple bucks by only paying for the cheaper stuff is throwing away the money you did spend. Sharp details also don't come out perfect in the softer plastics so if what you ordered doesn't look as good as the one the designer made, there's your answer, fish-bulb.

As for the guy who made the P/CP head in the link (Calloway75), I've personally ordered his Pyro head, Roadbuster head and neck and the Wreckers gun 04 all of them where perfect. I've ordered in both the translucent and sturdy white plastics. My only complaint was the Wreckers gun was bigger that I expected. I was getting it for a Deluxe figure but it was sized for a Voyager. The gun itself was flawless. If he ever puts his Motormaster head for Cybertron Optimus for order, I'm getting one of them too.

Shapeways is awesome. They allow any of us to be a third party designer. The problem is they let any of us be a third party designer. Forewarned is forearmed.

...and knowing is half the battle!

Can you post some pictures? I checked out the Shapeways page but this guy doesn't post any pictures of a completed kit.

I don't have any pics of mine but here's the thread on TFW where I first saw the Pyro head. The designer posts as Cashanova over there. His Galvatron has to be seen to be believed! I just wish it was available and I could afford one!

EDIT: I found the WIP thread for the Galvatron here.

Calloway75's replacement head works equally well with the CHMS Punch/Counterpunch KO, guys:

That galvatron was amazing especially at botcon.. I've never used shapeways but I am intrigued by it..Seems like a neat alternative..

I've found several replacement heads on Shape Ways that I'm interested in. What would be the material to order them in?

Any of the detail material, stay away from the "Strong and Flexible" type, it sucks and needs more work done to it than what's worth it.
I've got something in the Black detail and I really like it, you'll just need to sand and polish it though before you paint it.

I'd go with the transparent option. The finish is smoother, you can see the shapes you're working with, the plastic is a little softer (and therefore less prone to stress fractures), and it's easier to tell when the surface is ready to paint. Plus, light-piping!

This is what my game-accurate WFC/FOC Cliffjumper looks like with his new Shapeways head (cast in translucent plastic, painted in metallic red, silver, and clear blue eyes:
