The Bane of your Existance

Now, in regards to your personal relationship with Transformers, what has been the bane of your existence? It could be anything. A figure you hated, and story arc in a cartoon/movie/comic you hated, childhood memories, whatever.

For me, its this little #$^%&$@...

Image

G1 Throttlebot Freeway.
When I was a kid, I grew up watching season 1 and the movie. Over and over again. Hotrod quickly became my favorite character and I wanted his toy more than anything. I distinctly recall a trip to the store and actually seeing Hotrod on the shelf and begging my mom to get him for me. She didn't (I assume she couldn't afford it or something) but in order to calm me down, grabbed my pal Freeway here. It must have worked at the moment since I don't remember causing a scene (and I was actually quite quiet and well behaved as a kid). But afterwords and even to this day, I sort of labeled freeway as the reason I never had Hotrod growing up.

That, and Freeway sucks.

What makes this funnier, is now that I'm expanding my collection, not only do I need a G1 Freeway but I've also fallen in love with Toyworlds Throttlebots. So I'll eventually have two Freeway's... one of which I'll love and secretly hate at the same time

Movieverse leader class Jetfire.

I understand that the toy is what it is because it had to combine with Optimus, but I'd rather it simply transformed into a proper Blackbird and had a more accurate robot mode. Maybe package "Jetfire armor parts" with leader class OP as a special "premium" edition or something.

The Jetfire toy we got wasn't THAT bad, but he could have been much better. Definitely the least liked toy in my TF collection.

The toys that were released for the original movie. Yeah I even as a kid I didn't like how plastic and cheap Hot Rod, Kup, Cyclonus, etc. felt. I thought they become too simple to transform and lacked a lot of detail. It's because of this I further didn't care to watch Headmasters and so on, up until Beast Wars.

The G1 Seekers. I love the mold but I hate the unpainted faces. The reissues of recent years like Wheelie and Swerve with newly painted faces really came to life from their bland original colour schemes.

The Worlds Smallest Seekers prove that a painted face like Starscream's or even just optics like Thrust's prove that the G1 Seekers could benefit from some face paint.

Add Bluestreak to the list as well. The talkative young bot does not suit a dull face and Decepticon red eyes.

I totally agree with your opinion about Hot Rod and Kup's cheap plastic appearance. I'd love G1 Sideswipe retooled as Hot rod.

I have to add Legends and the deluxe cars of recent years to the list. I find the Legends cheap and annoyingly small. Plus they did away with my beloved scout class.

The deluxe cars annoy me because they look ridiculous with Diaclones and G2 Laser rods.

MP-10 Optimus Prime: I was in England, near Hull if I recall, and what do my wandering eyes find on a TRU shelf but him....

:BOOM:

Don't have the space for his trailer, too expensive with the currency exchange, and damned parents.

i was thinking that too. even in the encore series they didnt get their eyes painted! ill probably just end up painting them myself. i hate those eye stickers.

and it is strange that theyd go to the trouble of making "anime bluestreak" and keep his red eyes...

this sounds similar to my hot rod story
dont worry. youll get him some day, and it will be glorious!

The Gen 1 Decepticon Jet toys were...bad.

Wheelie the character in G1 and the Bayverse....ugh...not to mention how bad the toy was for the Gen 1 era. :BOOM:

And the G1 Versions of Kup,Hot Rod and Blurr were just...cheap.
Springer wasn't bad,though.

ive never owned classics hotshot, but i will say that galvatron gets a bad wrap. yes he should have been bigger and was complex, but he was still a decent representation. and the asia specialists colors are BEE YOO TEE FUL.

The bane of my existence? I have two:

1) Fiddly parts (I'd be much more happier with my Universe (2008) Galvatron if his leg didn't pop off if I looked at it funny)

2) Inconsistencies. Because there's nothing I hate more than a flagrant plot hole. :BOOM:

Almost all of the toys I own from animated. I have 30 year old toys that are holding up better than most of the figures from that line.

The IDW comics.

For a brief period, I couldn't even watch G1 without thinking about how much IDW screwed it up.

And "Autobot Megatron".... just... ugh. :BANG_HEAD:

I'm a bit confused at how the comics can mess with you so much when they are completely seperate things, and its been done before, goodguy Megatron that is: in TFCC shattered glass universe where Megatron of the heroic decepticons fights the evil Optimus Prime of the villainous Autobots. The second isn't so much him being good as him just quitting evil. As in Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising.

That SG thing was a mirror universe, he's allowed to be good there.

And the Predacons Rising ending was bullslag, too. One little possession and suddenly he's Mr. Softie, don't wanna dish out pain no more just because he took some?

Yeah, no, he's taken pain. He was a freakin' gladiator, he knows pain. And he's been possessed before, and the very next thing he did then was nearly kill Optimus, the only thing that stopped him being the realization that he'd reverted to Orion Pax.

I repeat, bullslag.

I think it was more then a lil pain...We're talking about his spark being tortured. Megatron being good is just a small change in the larger scheme of things. I mean we, as fans, love robots that change...So why can't we accept change?. It's not a bad thing as sone would have you believe.

Big freakin' deal, I refuse to believe that Megatron isn't enough of a badass to take it.

I think it is a big deal and something that would be frankly unimaginable to us, we are talking his spark getting tortured here. A pain that was enough to make Mr badass cry out. He wasn't just possessed, he was enslaved. That was what made him think about what he had done.

End of the day though what happened, happened. Regardless of what we thought. It's time for the series to expand outwards and look for new badguys. Instead of dragging the name Megatron out, time and time again.

Megatron just never gets old, though.

He was enslaved in the '86 film as well, didn't stop him from coming back meaner than ever in season 3. He shouldn't be good, he should be insane, like Galvatron.

theres a lot of people who would disagree with that. and in an effort to keep him relevant, sometimes he might have to change. the IDW stuff portraying him as a political prisoner and gladiator was fascinating, and for me was the first time i saw any depth to megatron.

in fact, ive always preferred G1 galvatron and BW/BM megatron to any other decepticon leader, megatron or otherwise.

Exactly :) I would also add Overlord and Dezarus(Deathsarus? The bad guy from Victory) to that list.

Ultra Magnus in Prime. He had potential that they didn't do much with, then in Predacons Rising they beat the crap out of him so they could put Bumblebee in charge. Which I thought was odd because Arcee seems to outrank him during the show. That might just have been me though.

Movie Bumblebee. Not only for his shelf warming qualities, but the character. :BOOM:
