DW will end up dead unless she gets good stories.
She was only put there for the BBC's left wing agenda, so this new change is kinda pointless.

I'm not sexist, far from it, but this is just to appease the SJWs, the lefties and the feminists. :BANG_HEAD:

She'll probably only last about 2 series until BBC cancel the show.

I really hope she does it well, DW needs a change, so maybe this might work.

Any thoughts lads?

BBC has guaranteed the show five more seasons, no matter what. If ever there was a time to try something new, this would be it. And anyone who thinks the BBC would cancel their biggest cash cow is naive. If ratings do plummet, they'll just recast the Doctor.

And keep in mind, the creator of the show was pulling for a female Doctor since the nineteen seventies. So I think it has less to do with "pandering to SJWs" (though there are probably a few execs who are motivated by that) and more with trying something new for the show. Don't forget, this is a new writing crew, who are no doubt eager to leave their mark on the series. Experimentation has been in the show's nature since the beginning. Remember the Jon Pertwee years, where the Doctor was stranded on Earth and basically became James Bond. This is just the latest in a series of experiments, and I for one am eager to see what kind of new stories they can tell in this era.

1986 actually.

But a part of it IS pandering to SJW's. There's a push on at the moment for more strong female leads. Some even had the stupidity to say sci-fi shows have NEVER had a strong female lead, which is so far incorrect it's beyond a joke.

It's those same individuals that shot down detractors of this move as "man-babies", ignoring the fact that there were also women who were opposed to the move as well.

I objected, and still object, to the move on the grounds that lately in the media it seems to be a case of taking pre-existing characters and changing their race and/or gender rather than creating and building up new characters.

It also irks me that we ended up with Missy and now we end up with a female Doctor, when both already had female counterparts from the classic series.

I just hope they give her good stories, otherwise the blame will be pointed solely at her.

Not that I needed to type all this, considering I already posted it before, but hey, lets rehash things. Whatever.

-edit-

And where was it reported that the BBC have guaranteed DW for another five seasons?

From 2015 ... so it's "guaranteed" until 2020. With 2018 being Jodie's first season, that doesn't give her much of a chance to really establish herself. I feel they need at least three seasons to really make an impact.

I remember seeing a post about that, followed immediately with a gif of Captain Janeway rolling her eyes. Follow-up responses included similar gifs of various other women such as Ellen Ripley and Sarah Conner.

I have wachted Doctor Who series 8.This was the first series I watched the whole way through, after watching some parts of other series here and there.I liked ,it wasn't perfect but pretty good.Any of you guys could give me an idea why most of the fandom avoid talking about it most of time?

Because Clara became INCREDIBLY annoying in that season and they wrote her like she was on the same level as The Doctor.

Which she wasn't.

Also, Kill the Moon and Forest of the Night. Doctor Who has always played fast and loose with science, but those two episodes set a whole new standard of "insult the audiences intelligence," "GRADE-SCHOOL science fail" stupid.

Ah ,I can see that point of view.Didnt think much about it first time watching, but it makes sense. However,Peter Capaldi's performance is still a delight to watch.

The Doctors new friends

Yes, "friends", not "companions" as they've been previously known.

And an old white dude to boot. Because apparently the show really can't survive without a white male?

Trying to keep an open mind here ...

Am I the only person who's just looking forward to more Doctor Who? Like, I don't care about the multiple companions/friends or the gender/ethnicity of anyone.

I'm finding myself wearing more hoodies already. I'm screwed if she wears a dress. I don't have the legs for it.

I've been wearing more hoodies since Capaldi first wore that hoodie/formal coat combo.

I think I'm just a little jarred after the more conservative outfits all the nuWho Doctors have had. This is the nuWho equivalent to the Fifth or Sixth Doctor costumes, more colorful and costumey. But it tells us a lot about the angle they'll be going with for Whittaker's characterization. This outfit as an "eccentric genius" vibe. I like most of the individual parts of the costume, but put together the ensemble looks... half-finished.

My thoughts, and I know how deplorable they sound but it's the only thing that comes to mind is ... I feel that outfit would be more suited for a 20 something hipster.

But I do agree it looks half finished, like something is missing.

I keep thinking without the coat, she looks like she should be working on a farm. And I really don't know why. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get used to it. And Capaldi changed his outfit each season so it's not like this could be perminant anyway.
