And thus ends the Capaldi era.

Replacement aside, it is sad to see him go. I've thoroughly enjoyed his run, especially with Bill by his side.

As for the Christmas special, loved it. David Bradley did a fantastic job stepping into the shoes of William Hartnell. Got a kick out of the interaction between 60's era sexist Doctor and modern era Bill. Shows how far the show and each Doctor has come.

Was not surprised as to who the Captain turned out to be. Very touching, and good to know that the Lethbridge-Stewarts are still very much a part of DW. Well, hopefully anyway. This episode was also about Moffatt tieing things up.

I do look forward to the new series, to see how she goes, more so now that the Tardis channelled the raging fans and rejected the new Doctor in a fit of flames. Image

Okay, I am not too proud to admit that I cried. I connected with the Twelfth Doctor like no other incarnation. His "Be kind" speech helped get me through a very trying year. My grandfather passed away four weeks ago, and I'm still grieving him. So, yeah... while I welcome Jodie with open arms, this was a bad time for me to lose Peter.

Is there any part of 12 Doctor series that tie ins with his appearence on Day of the Doctor?

No, you're just left to assume it happened in between episodes somewhere.

Last night my friends and I filmed a review of this episode, please go check it out!

A wholly sweet send-off for the 12th Doctor. Peter was wonderful as I expected. Bradley did an excellent 1st Doctor, I just wished they had toned down the sexism in the writing for the character. Now, I'm not a classic Who expert, but it seemed wildly out of place and mostly just used for comedic value. Given how this (now past) year has gone for women speaking out against harassment and sexism, it kinda soured me a bit.

My two favorite parts (aside from the final speech/regeneration) were when the Doctor realized it wasn't an evil plan and he had no clue as to how to deal with it. Plus the Christmas Armistice, one of my favorite historical moments was really an amazing piece of history to put into Doctor Who. I was racking my brain trying to figure out the "Christmas angle" of the episode, and it never clicked with the date and war.

Overall, I'm doubly excited for Jodie with her two-word opener of "Oh, brilliant!". I'm pretty interested to see a Yorkshire accented Doctor, hopefully including all the wonderful little tics and sayings that Yorkshire natives seem to have (via television anyway, I binged Last Tango in Halifax, love the accents). My only criticism is that she's not ginger. It bugs me.

It wasn't out of place though. William Hartnells portrayal was like that. They did dial it up a little but by adding in Capaldi's obvious shame and embarrassment they lightened the tone, AND demonstrated how much things have changed over the years.

Even the Second Doctor literally spanked a companion once. Bent her over his knee and everything. So, yeah. His comments weren't a regular thing, but they did happen. And there was a similar scene in The Five Doctors where First orders Teegan to bring them some food and Fifth gets very apologetic. "Fortunately, one mellows with age."

Ah, got it, sorry, I'm a nu-Who generation Whovian. Haven't seen much of the original shows. Honestly though, Capaldi's "Can we just pretend that that never happened?" was priceless.

Oh Madeus the doctor is never allowed to be ginger, no matter the gender.

What is it though and regenerations doing a number on the tardis? Can't we just go back to the semi peaceful regenerations of the past?

It gives them a reason to have a new look for the Tardis.

Because The Doctor just redecorating because he felt like it is such a silly notion ...
(Though in the case of this regeneration I feel it was the Tardis rejecting the new Doctor)

Well 11-12 was really quick, just explosive outside the Tardis

You wouldn't be the first I've heard with that theory :-P

Ah I remember the days when they didn't need excuses to redecorate, they just did it...though I do recall it only happening once.

That would be a marathon and a half...especially if they included ninth doctor onwards.

A few years back ABC (AU) did the entire classic series, one episode a day. It was their way of giving up the broadcast rights.

Took a few years but damn it was good to come home after work knowing there was a Classic DW episode to watch (even though I have a lot of them on DVD)

I remember when UK Gold aired it on Sunday mornings, was the first time I'd seen many of the Tom Baker stuff (Id watched a lot on vhs but stories like the horns of nimon never turned up at car boot sales) and the first time I saw all the keys to time story.

The teaser trailer for the new season of The Flash Dr Who has been released. It really does nothing but help divide the fans even more from the comments I've read on Facebook.

I now understand the flash bit...so was the doctor just messing with their stuff or is that showing us the theme of the series?

Probably as soon as I wake up. Anywhere between 5am and 6am. Depending on if ABC puts it straight onto iView as they've done for the last few years.

I hope you enjoy it then, otherwise it might ruin your day  I'm not surprised they've changed days mind, Strictly is a big crowd drawer for the beeb, and the schedule is jam packed leading up to it, now it's a lead in on a dead Sunday evening to the strictly come dancing results show.

I think you'll find the move to Sunday night is more for America than anything else.

Because hey, put Dr Who up against The Simpsons. That'll work well.

I feel like they're intentionally setting this season up to fail, at which point they'll turn around and blame the sexist white males of the fanbase.

I can actually sort of see that with the Beeb, though I'm sorta reminded of the eighties where they did try and kill the show several times before it succeeded.

So in a further middle finger to fans, ABC Australia will not air the new season, or make it available via their VOD platform (iView) until 12 hours after it finishes airing in the UK.

The last few years it's always been available on VOD immediately after it finishes airing in the UK with them then screening it on free-to-air at 7:30pm.

This season however it will be made available in Australia simultaneously from 5:55pm.

There are two ways I could watch it earlier. Download it illegally, or take the day off, drive an hour and catch it in cinemas.

ugh.
