I believe Capaldi's on record (along with Tennant and Smith) as saying the show's production schedule is brutal and takes a physical toll. And yes, he's by far the most accomplished actor to take on the role and almost certainly has other things he'd like to do. I never had any illusions of Capaldi doing five or six seasons. I suspect he'll go by the old Patrick Troughton rule and bow out after three seasons. Moffat leaving too probably seals the deal.

I'd be interested to know how the production schedule is brutal, UK does half as many episodes as US. Do they only do half as many episodes and film twice as fast or something?

although this won't happen! it would be ironic if the role of the Doctor came back around to him again! & this time....he accepted it! even if just to piss Burn off

Bit harsh isn't it? Singling burn out for having an opposing view on an actor that won't even be considered for it since he turned it down and let's face it, they won't be looking for a new actor till this time next year. If news is true then it all depends on the idea of the new show runner. For all we know he could want John barrowman as the next doctor! Note: I'm not saying that I want this to happen, this is just an extreme example.
