Without a link to the thread, I can't say what went wrong for you, but it might be that not all women are "fem" or want to be, so the term doesn't represent all women - and thus - body proportion doesn't need to equate to gender, even in Transformers.

One of the things I actually like about RID Strongarm is that she's bulky enough to be able to transform into a truck without resorting to kibble or being a shellformer, but she's still distinctively feminine. It's a really nice balance between the two.

Now that I think of it there is Scatterspike who is the same mold as Quillfire. They look almost the same but Scatterspike has some purple accents.

Image

They look nearly identical. I wouldn't peg Scatterspike as a femme/female from just looking at her. In the show she appears to have a bit of a beard plate too. Androgyny happens. ;)

That's less "androgyny" and more "Lazy animators/toy makers".

*shrugs* Recolors are nothing new. I can't remember the last time I saw an opposite gender recolor that was not also a re-tool or re-mold. (Like Ratchet and Strongarm in the RiD15 line for example)

Classics Mirage to Wal-Mart Exclusive Fracture
Energon Aerialbot to Target Exclusive ROTF Air-razor
Legends Wheelie in Target Exclusive Shadow Stryker

... and that's all I can think of

I was thinking of Animated Stryka when I made my post, but I think your example works better

I always thought Mirage and Fracture were both male. I am most familiar with RiD Fracture so I had to google this. Kinda reminds me or Red Alert in TF Animated.

Oh yeah! I think that's an homage to Budiansky's original idea to make Ratchet female. Imagine that: 1 toy, two repaints, two genders in the 1980s

I don't think it would have caused mass controversy but it may have raised a few eyebrows of those whom noticed.

I have a question I like to ask this website.
How come female "Transformers" fans have an easier time with not getting publicly heckled then male "My Little Pony" fans?
We live in an interesting time in pop culture when robots have become more gender neutral then horses.

In society now and days women can really get away with a lot, in this case, liking something for men. It's just more acceptable than men watching something for girls. And when I say MEN I mean men like in their 30s MEN, watching something for girls who are usually like, 9? :BOOM: (Dunno not an expert.)

I don't want to open a can of worms but, I think it is people's behavior that can be off putting. If a guy/gal likes a show that is targeted for a different gender I don't think people care. But when those people make people uncomfortable with their behavior both online and at conventions, that is where the problem lies.

I have no issue with guys who like MLP or girls who like Transformers. It is okay to enjoy what makes you happy. The main thing is that people should be nice and keep things appropriate so everyone can feel comfortable.

If that's true, that would have been a neat idea. I wonder, though, considering the character's prominence and characterization throughout the Marvel Comics, if the gender change would have had a negative impact on the character's development. Also, I wonder if any comparisons would have been made to the antagonist in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.

Nope.

It is.
There are only 2 genders, that's all.

I had an issue once where I was criticized by a male TF fan for RPing as a male TF instead of a female TF. It wasn't an issue until after I told the dude I was female OOC. I tried to reason with him and tell him it doesn't matter but he insisted it did matter and from there refered to Hot Shot as female. I ended up quitting his group.

I think so. I've never had such an issue anywhere else I have RPed. I prefer to RP as male characters with the rare occasion I'll play a tomboy.

Well sadly you don't have much of a choice unless you play a created character, as official female characters are still a huge minority, even though it's getting better, in the comics at least.
