I am planning my first repaint, will start simple with a movie bumblebee. Paint wise i should be okay, so no questions on that. What i would like to know though is where to get those transformers symbols (decals) that i see on some of the repainted/kitbashed models.
I have used search, but that gave no results.

Thanks

OK, here is a tip I found working with Krylon Fusion paint over the Christmas break.

I was repainting movie starscream parts with a base of krylon flat black. Worked great! However, the next day, the rubberized bits on his arms, the fingers and the little drive wheel that makes the cannon spin was all gummy.

It took quite a bit to get all the gummy paint off. The rest of the bot was perfect, it was just those little bits that had an issue.

I've used Krylon Fusion on TFs before with no problems, it's great stuff. But if you have rubber parts be sure to mask those off!

Cheers and Happy New Year!

How do you drive out metal rods? Where can I find some more if needed? I've read through the topic and read all the comments, but most of them seem to be about repainting. I am not so worried about paints at the moment. :?

Anyone know where I could find a pair of Alternators Sideswipe hands? I need them put replace the unmovable hands of my Voyager movie Prime. Also, does anyone know if it's possible to find a pair of hands that have independently moving fingers that might fit? Finding those damn hands is holding me up with the stop motion film im working on

thanks, this is driving me crazy

How would you go about affixing rare earth magnets to a transformers figure?

GLue them straight on? =S

I was wondering if anyone could reccomend which paint would be the best to repaint the Target exclusive scout class Storm Surge(repaint of Cybertron Shortround) into Seaspray and what shades of yellow and blue to use.

This can be a pain.

There are several methods but this is the general idea.

Many of the metal rods have a "big end" and a "little end", you want to push the little end in, and have the big end pop out.

"But what do I do THAT with?" you may ask. Try a small nail. You may need to get the parts braced up with something (or have a friend brace it against a workbench) leaving your hands free to hold the nail and a small hammer. You're looking to tap out the pin, not smash it out. :-)

If they do not move easily, heating the rod or the plastic with a hair dryer can soften the plastic, allowing the rods to pop out.

If that STILL doesn't work, you can heat the rod itself with a soldering iron, then push it out. Watch out! These pins can get HOT so don't burn yourself!

You can. You can also drill into the shell a bit and recess the magnet or you may be able to put the magnet under the skin, so to speak.

Jin offers a guide for this. Page down to the magna-joints section:

I prefer tamaya paints, but testors Model Master line is great as well.

You can always refer to Jin's site here for some paint tips:
http://www.angelfire.com/mech/jinsaotom ... Paint.html

Jin's site offers a lot of good info for the beginning customizer! I check it all the time.

There is also a pretty easy mod for cutting down those goofy monkey arms and affixing them to the feet. It makes him even more like seaspray. There are a couple gatchas to watch out for though. If I redid mine I'd do it a bit differently.

Good luck and happy customizing!

I'm wanting to do a wheel/rim swap. So how does one take those metal rivets out and swap out the wheel and have it still function?

Ive yet to try it myself, but I seem to recall reading that a soldering iron is the best way to go. Holding it to the pin heats it up, making the plastic holding it soft and allowing the wheel to be removed..

Like I said though, Ive never tried it myself..

I'm not really sure if this has been addressed yet, but I'm on the verge of repainting a Classics Hot Rod and I was wondering if anyone knew a way to make flames? I've already taken decals as a suggestion, but I would like to make them look like the flames that came with the American Version of the figure. Can anyone help me out with this?

well if u have a drawing of the flames all u need is to use a decal or a sticky sheet and just cut the inner part and use them as a template .

then u can airbrush it or just tap the paint in with a stencil brush(it has a flat 180 degree head ).

I ve done flames on Car Models. Get a flame decals, use the outter piece, place it the way you want, then make sure you use masking tape to cover all the parts you dont want to be painted, then use red Tamiya (or which ever color you want). Make sure that the surface you are painting is clean of Glue, or fingers prints, cause that will show under the Paint.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look into this as well! :D

hi, sorry if the answer to this exists any where on the forum, but i'm meant to be working, and don't have time to look--i read somewhere it's possible to dye plastic, and just wondered what stuff would i use/and where do i get it from. I'm looking to repaint a slight kitbash of energon megatron in to g1 megs colours. I particularly want to try it with the thigh area, since it is a sore spot for paint scraping. Also is it viable to dye a dark plastic with a lighter colour?
Thanks any help would be appreciated, still consider myself a beginner.

Anyone know the best way to put a Binaltech Grimlock head on a Binaltech Meister/Zoom body? The head peg on Meister is larger in diameter than the peg hole on Grimlock's head. Should I modify the vehicles or should I modify the head somehow?

I want to turn my red Meister/Jazz into Stunticon Dead End. If I can reduce the points on the sides of Grimlock's head, paint his visor purple, I think it would make a great Dead End head.

I have a question about Repainting. I have always thought my self to be pretty artistic, and want to give this repainting a try, but should I bleach the figure first or repaint over the color already on the figure? If I bleach the figure, what do u guys recommend?

Hey guys, so I'm interested in customs(but probably won't do any myself for a while, at LEAST till next summer) and I noticed on TFW there is a completely scratchbuilt Animated Omega Supreme, made from styrene I believe.

So basically, I realized to fix scale problems, it seems possible to just build whatever you want, any advice or help on using styrene to custom make things?

Hey guys! I was wanting to get into custom Transformers, and I was thinking I would do a repaint on Armada Sideways with LED lights where they are required.

Being a newb at this, can anyone give pointers?

Hello I was wondering if anyone knows a way to remove the pins from Transformers? I'm trying to salvage an Activators Optimus to get ready for a Kit bash I'm going to attempt in the near future but I'm having trouble popping the pins out him. I was using a watch pin link remover until it broke after the fifth pin jammed in Optimus's hand. So if anyone knows of an easier way I'd much appreciate it if you could tell me. Thanks in advance!

I've got a question: I currently have an assembled but unpainted Animated Minerva on the way, and while I know where to get the 'heartbeat' sticker for the fins (reprolabels Ratchet upgrade pack), I'm unsure on the exact shades used for the rest of her. Any suggestions on what testors colors to go with?

I just got Prime First Edition Arcee, and I want to remove her shoulder armor; but the pin holding it onto her shoulder can only be accessed from the "stopper" side and can't be pushed out. Is there a way to get the armor off without having to cut it?
