You don't even need the durians in normal mode. I got by with just apples

After my fauxmiibo farming I have a stash full of 5 meat skewers that I use when I need a quick pick me up.

I rarely used any of the status effect meals, but that was me just doing it wrong and making life harder than it needs to be. 8-}

I've just now started using status effect as I want to always wear a certain armor set that gives a different status effect!! Like climbing or stealth in hot or cold regions!

I never thought of it before either!! Just running around farming and finding the Koroks wanting to have two effects running, it was the best way!

It’s funny that you guys mention the status effects. Cause I also bad at game

I didn’t use anything until very late in my MM playthrough. I dunno why, but I kinda saw it as cheating? If you’re cold, wear your cold gear. If you’re about to be struck by lightning, wear your rubber suit. And the defense/attack buffs are the things that make me feel cheater’ish. I started to get over that when tackling Trial of the Sword, and much later on while monster hunting. In the end I exclusively wore the Fierce Deity for the attack boost, and even ate warming food so I could keep it on while hunting Lynels in cold climates. Cause damn… them gold enemies in MM… the FD really takes the edge off 8-)

Also for reference, FD is the exact same thing as the Barbarian outfit. I don't think I ever used it because I was so hung up on "MOAR DEFENS MEANS BETTAR" for most of my playthrough. That, and it's one of the few outfits I don't like the look of 8-}

Wanna hear cray? I suit up in the champions tunic, soldiers pants and amber earrings for defense. When I mount a lynel, I pause switch to the barb gear and wail on him. Sometimes I'll even switch to a two handed weapon. When I get bucked off I pause and change all my gear again.

I need 4 more lynel guts to finish my upgrades. I need to get gud at parry and dodge to get them free throws in. Maybe when I'm done with that I'll upgrade that deity set.

You know what's crazy? Perfect Parry and Flurry Rush are my best friends. It's the only thing I'm good at in the game. And shooting arrows while free-falling. So basically, I'm good when the game is in slow motion LOL

Hahahaha, the game seems to be really good when I'm in slow motion, which is most of the time.

I need to just suck it up and go practice. Unfortunately normal mode doesn't really require you get good at those things.

I do love slow-mo arrow shooting ;)^

I've considered doing that, but I was too lazy

Last time I checked, I had about 70-80 Lynel guts to spare 8-}

I honestly found the parry to be kinda pointless. All it does is open them up to couple regular attacks, and if I'ma use my timing skills then flurry rush is more useful. Now I know what you'll say, returning Guardian lasers. But in MM they have random timing, making it literally impossible to use it as a reliable tactic.

I'd use it at every opportunity. Leaping off a horse/Master Cycle and going into slow-mo bow mode (SLOBOMO?) is a great tactic. But I really wish that slobomo didn't require you to be airborn. Lotsa games do a "focus" type thing whenever you want. Just another thing for you to improve upon Zelda team ;)^

Just make it a Sheikah Slate skill. I wish BotW had a magic meter instead of all the skills having uses/cooldowns. Just like weapon/shield durability, it's more of a nuisance than game mechanic. Neither adds nor subtracts, so why bother?

I'd been happy with durability if they had added two things, a trackable number and repair.

I was taken aback when I started BOTW, seeing the Sheikah slate replacing many key items and the magic meter. But it doesn't take long to get used to, and I now feel it's was a really innovative idea. I still miss the Hookshot, and feel that Cryonis was painfully underused, but everything else about it was great. I hope they expand upon it.

Speaking of expanding, I know they don't do direct sequels often but I would love to see one for BOTW. It ends with a "now what?"... and damn.. I wanna know what's next for them! Does Link even return the sword after Ganon is gone?

I also missed all the tools and was bummed when I found how useless and annoying the boomerang was. I did use them to pop a lot of balloons though when I was low on arrows.

I agree on cryosis. Opened a gate once or twice, turned over a few dead guardians for bonus loot, used them to bounce a few rocks across for seeds and traveled a few lakes with them.

Did you ever use magnesis with a two-handed weapon to turn rafts into motor boats?

I'd like to see a sequel or a stand alone expansion. I just want more new areas!

I hear ya. Song of the Storms is what clued me into this mix. Going pick up the album and I'm sure it's going on repeat at work.

I'm pretty far down a chillwave rabbit hole at the moment, bouncing between this Zelda, other stuff that I'm finding on youtube and google play. I need two sound cards and four ears. I guess I could use my phone and computer at the same time, I may have a problem.

Here's a fun game:

https://tiermaker.com/create/all-zelda-games

Here's my results!

Image

After going through this, I was surprised to find out that I have actually played every single Zelda to date (minus CDI) and beaten almost all of them. I'll give some reasoning for my picks...

D: Skyward gets the shaft because of those $#%#ing controls. And it is especially infuriating because I heard the story is fantastic. I WANT to play it, I just can't! And GC 4S, isn't bad, but the hardware limitations are ridiculous.

C: Hyrule Warriors, not bad, just ain't my thang. Zelda 2 is a funny one, because I don't hate it like the rest of the fandom does. When I was a kid, that's the game I saw other play, and it was so hard that I was like "whoa, that's a big kids game" and I always aspired to do. Still haven't thought lol. Spirit Tracks was like, a worse Phantom Hourglass, bleh. And Link Between Worlds.... *sigh*. I'm shocked to actually find out that people hold this game in such high esteem. I found it to be WAY too easy, buying your items whenever you want felt hollow in comparison to earning them by traversing a dungeon, and as a sequel to my ll time favorite video game period? Nope. It had impossible standards to live up to, and it fell way short for me. The wall mechanic was super cool though.

B: These are my "meh" games I guess. Zelda 1 is hard and cryptic, but necessary for a fan. You feel great achievement after beating it lol. Ages wasn't as good as Seasons. And Twilight was SO middle of the road for me. Creepy character designs, empty over world, stupid wolf stuff, and creating a decent story and villain only to punk'd with "nah, its Ganon of course!". But damn, I did love Midna, and that is THE BEST final dungeon and Ganon fight, PERIOD.

A: Seasons and Awakening are pretty much the same to me, both just really good solid little games. Impressive for their times. Phantom Hourglass... I don't know why, but I just really got into this game. It has flaws, major flaws, but I couldn't put it down. And Triforce Hero's is SUPER fun... if you have friends

S: Wind Waker, was a fun, good story. I even loved the sailing. Ocarina, dated and linear as it may be, set the stage for 3D Zelda's and did a damn good job doing it. I still enjoy playing it. Majora, to my everlasting shame has gone unbeaten. But the tone it sets is like nothing else, and I'll get back to it some day ((come on N64 Classic!). Minish is funny, cause I hated it when I first got it. Fast forward 10 years later and my niece tells me it's her favorite, so I dust off the cart and 100% it. 100%'ing it is a lot harder than you'd expect, and in the end I ended up loving it. GBA LTTP is an odd inclusion... it doesn't share the top spot with the original due to the strange addition of sound bytes "YAH" for EVERY #$%^ING SWORD SWING. So annoying. Why you do?

SS: Link to the Past, is and probably always will be, my favorite game of all time. I have so many good memories of it, and can still play it to this day. And as good as Breath of the Wild is, is has something Breath doesn't: re-playability. Sure I played BOTW through twice, but I only 100%'d it on the second (Master Mode) playhtough. WHICH... I will not be doing again. Even though I almost felt remorse after completing it. I enjoyed it so much that I was sad when it was over. But it's such a chore, that I can't see myself doing it again.

So yeah. My pics, and why. Some of them are odd, sorry not sorry

Well that is cool, but I haven't played/finished enough Zeldas to really give it a fair shake. Even though I'd consider myself a "huge" Zelda fan, I really just haven't played very many and finished even less. I'm actually really bad at finishing games. Like really really bad. I just stop caring, don't see the point and I don't want the world to end.

Anyway, LttP is my #1 rose tinted pick.

BotW is probably a more realistic #1.

Zelda 1 is a cool game and I really enjoyed it back in the day and all it's non linear progression options. It's a hard game to play these days.

Z2 is Dark Souls before Dark Souls became a thing.

Link Between worlds was a nice LttP wannabe that was mostly fun, but left me unsatisfied.

I love some WW but never finished it or BotW.

I really wish Ninty ports the HD WW, TP and SS to the Switch.

Dats all I gots.... oh I have a weird love/hate relationship with OoT ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All Zelda games are awesome, even the DS ones, and Adventure of Link as well. And don't get me wrong, I love Ocarina of Time, but that one's kinda overrated IMO. I get that it's the perfect 2D to 3D jump done right, but that's pretty much the only reason people considered it the best. But Ocarina was way too easy for me, even doing a 3 heart challenge didn't stop the game from being easy.

I have a tendency to prefer 2D over 3D overall; they tend to have better challenge for sure. that's why I love ALttP so much and the Oracle games were also Master Pieces. Try playing any Zelda game with 3 hearts, and all the 2D Zelda games, especially the first Zelda, Breath of the Wild, or Skyward Sword with 6 hearts, and you get some really hardcore games. Ocarina, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, and Minish Cap with three hearts still have really easy boss fights.

Mind if I join you guys in this thread?

While I'm not much of a gamer anymore these days, always had an interest in The Legend of Zelda. I never actually played any of the games, myself (I only ever watched my brother play some of them, he's more of the gamer in the family), but I do find the games' stories and mythos to be quite fascinating.

And, well, I also own and have watched the DVD set of the old DiC cartoon from the 80's. ;)

I've lately been watching some gameplay videos on YouTube to better familiarize myself with the games' plots and characters. I'm most partial to those by ZorZelda since his are thoroughly 100%, straightforward, high quality, and No Damage, making for a concise and more cinematic viewing experience.

I've also been watching a bunch of Zelda Theory videos, such as those from the likes of Zeltik, Commonwealth Realm, NintendoBlackCrisis, and others. One such theory video caught my eye and I'd like to share it with y'all.

Now, if y'all know me, you may know how much of a stickler I am in adhering to official canon and such when it comes to Transformers and other properties in general, but this fan theory is one that's neat enough that I can get behind.

As we all may be aware, the official Zelda Timeline is kind of a mess with its three distinct branches of splinter timelines coming after Ocarina of Time. While the Adult and Child Timeline branches are mostly reasonable, the Fallen Hero or Downfall Timeline is kind of a cop out when you think about it since it's based around a hypothetical outcome that doesn't actually exist in the context of Ocarina when said game is played as intended. Plus, no matter how you slice it, the events of Ocarina of Time just simply don't match up at all with the backstory material given in A Link to the Past, in either the English or Japanese versions of that game. Nor does the Hyrule Historia's account match with A Link to the Past either (e.g. - Ganondorf did not get the complete Triforce from Link and Zelda after ruling Hyrule for seven years, he got it from entering the Sacred Realm after he and a band of thieves first learned about the place and managed to open up its entrance).

What's more, the placement of Four Swords Adventures in the Child Timeline after Twilight Princess is a little awkward since, among other things, it creates a second Ganondorf in that timeline. I get that they probably placed it where they did since there was literally no where else for it to go in the setup that they went for with the Zelda Timeline, since anywhere closer to Ocarina would make FSA feel too conflicting with that game, but it still feels weird.

This video, however, proposes an alternate setup for the timeline that both eliminates the third split of the Downfall Timeline and its incongruities, as well as places Four Swords Adventures in a much more fitting placement that also prevents it from interfering or contradicting Ocarina of Time altogether:

In this new setup, all we have to assume is that, at some point following FSA, the Ganon from that game got out of the Four Sword (which is plausible since both FS and FSA begin with the seal on Vaati beginning to weaken, suggesting the Four Sword's seal to be imperfect and impermanent) reverted to his Gerudo form, learned about the Triforce, and then went after it wish his thieves, got inside the Sacred Realm, and used the Triforce to turn himself (back) into Ganon, becoming the one from A Link to the Past and starting the Imprisoning War, leading into the events of that game and beyond.

Other fascinating Zelda Theory videos I'd like to share are the following:
