Well, it's new to me. ;) And with my admittedly untrained eye, they look fantastic. I have SO wanted articulated SM figures. Let's hope they do the entire cast!

Quick question (without looking back through the topic).

Anyone here ever seen or know of this abomination? :P

Here's just the promo with the perspective corrected:

Any true Sailor Moon fans know about that classic abobination. It was a project they wanted to do, but they found it cheaper to just dub the original anime and cansor the **** out of it.

Still, this is kind of unfortunate that no pilot episode exist.

Also, toys.

Well, I bring up the old Toon Makers promo vid for a very special reason.

Animation cels and a 14-page script for the pilot have surfaced on eBay after all these years.

Actual news:

According to the following links (the first of which is Momoiro Clover Z's official blog), Momoiro Clover Z will be performing the new theme song to the 2013 Sailor Moon anime on Thursday, April 4, 2013.

False alarm (NOT an April Fools prank, just a misunderstanding).

Turns out that MomoClo is just making an appearance on a variety show in which they will be cosplaying as the Sailor Senshi. There's no confirmation either way if they will or won't sing the new theme song during that show.

We now return to waiting as normal.

BIG news!

Not pertaining to the new anime, or anything for English-speaking countries, but still BIG!

Osabu has confirmed via his Twitter that the Sailor Moon musicals are returning this September! That's right, Sera Myu is back!

There will be 16 performances, from September 13th through the 23rd. The cast and staff have all been selected. And Naoko was present to witness the auditions.

Yes, Mamoru is being played by a woman. Past musical performances have had male roles performed by actresses, but this will be the first musical to have Mamoru played by one. And the actress playing him here is a big name former Takarazuka Revue actress.

Also, Makoto's actress was previously in Kamen Rider Kiva.

Oh boy ho boy!

I knew keeping monitoring this thread was still worth it!

I do love the musical, my favorite being the "Kaguya Island". I made myself a fan-made DVD years ago using the ISO made by a fansub group. I still have it.

I wonder if there will be some dedicated groups who will fansub the things once they are released on video?

Well, it's not like the person who made it had much to work with, considering all that's been leaked have only been a select amount of random animation cels and a few pages of the script.

It's fortunate that a few of the cels happened to part of the same sequence.

Yeah. I remember having seen that promo video on Youtube. a shame that the only available footage was recorded by a camcorder in a conference. I would have liked to see the pilot episode, just for the sake of weirdness.

For the 3 persons that care but dont have a clue of what we are talking about, feast your eyes on this:

It's the best recording available. What is undouptly the cameraman's reaction is priceless.

This one's just of the promo video, but has the perspective fixed and is closer to the screen:

But, yeah, the live action bits still look pretty terrible and music's corny to an extreme degree...

but...

...what little has been leaked of the animated parts is honestly starting to look "less" bad. Granted, it's still not nearly as good as the other parts of the franchise (the manga, the anime, PGSM, even the musicals), but the concepts it was going to have do sound rather interesting.

I mean, Queen Beryl having a warship, the girls retreating from the Moon Kingdom battle aboard a spacecraft of their own to reach a vortex in space that would lead them to Earth, a few of the monsters being based on the Seven Saikyou Youma of the anime, the girls fighting enemies on different planets in the Solar System, and the whole thing pretty much having a sort of "Space Opera" science fiction feel to it, all sound like they could have worked... in theory.

It's the execution that likely would have been the show's own undoing, but the few ideas the makers had for the show still sounded like it could have gone somewhere intriguing (nor that it probably would have, but still). The potential was there, but that's all.

Anyway, the following is a piece of fanart that also doesn't look half bad. In fact, I'd say it looks... good, for what it is.

Formal announcement about the new musical and first look at their costumes:
Image

A new work by Naoko Takeuchi of “Sailor Moon”, a musical entitled “Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon -La Reconquista-”. Today, July 3rd, the 5 sailor soldiers and Tuxedo Mask’s costumes have gone public.
Including Tuxedo Mask, the entire cast is female, which has become a hot topic of conversation. As for the other cast members, the Sailor Soldiers’s enemy will be the Dark Kingdom, with Queen Beryl portrayed by Hatsukaze Midori, with her subordinate Kunzite of the Four Generals portrayed by Ryo Saika, known for playing male roles in Takarazuka theater. As for the actress cast as Jadeite of the Four Generals, that would be the first of her kind in Japan, a female actress who is a popular model in the drag king magazine publication KERA BOKU (Index Communication): Ruuto.
As for the subtitle, “La Reconquista”, it refers to a period in history between the 14th and 15th century when Christians took back the Iberian Peninsula from the Muslims, in an attempt to recover their previously owned terrirtory (an exercise to take back their country). In this musical, the Sailor Soldiers and Tuxedo Mask fight with the enemy, the Dark Kingdom, to restore peace on earth, and for that reason this subtitle was chosen.
The musical “Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon -La Reconquista-” will begin performances on September 13th in Tokyo at the AiiA Theater Tokyo. Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning August 17th.

The new musical costumes are a lot more mature and darker than previous ones from the older musicals. The phrase “La Reconquista” means “The Reconquest” in Spanish, and given that the new musical is supposed to be in the style of a come-back, a means of the sailor soldiers taking back what is theirs, I hope this means that the script and performance will be of a darker nature. The costumes and the facial expressions of the cast certainly look that way.

In addition, the second round of pre-orders for tickets to this event will be available between July 3rd ~ July 9th for NicoNico Douga subscribers. According to @osabu8, there will also be more news reguarding the new Sailor Moon musical: La Reconquista in the August issue of Nakayoshi magazine, which goes on sale today (July 3rd).

Looks like even the Shitennou will also be played by actresses. So, an all-female Takarazuka-style cast.

First of, Female Tuxedo Kamen irk me a little... unless kissing is involved! =P~

As for the costumes, WOAH! I really like the fact that the skirts are less puffy than the old ones. They look like they are actually wearing the real sailor scout uniforms, not some bloody BODY ARMOR!

I'm looking forward for the BD release and if the show will be fansubbed.
