I have to disagree with you Ravage. The added contrast created by the black wash is a better choice because it brings out the details more realistically and thus increases the apparent scale of the model, making it appear closer to full size. In some areas, there is too much black, but, the over-all effect is best done with a black wash, not a grey one.

I think it's less realistic and more cartoony to have solid black in small cracks and seams. it's like cell shading. more "realistic" would be showing the cracks and seams as being smaller than the mold actually has them, not as giant gaping chasms where no light escapes.

Normally I'm not a big fan of the blacklining thing, but in this Astrotrain's case, the way it's come out makes him look like he's been around the block a few times. I like.

In cartoons yopu never see the seams unless you?re real close up. With toys, the seams are never really defined. Only on scale models made to look real are seams defined and always using a black wash or fine-line black pen.

A lot of modellers preffer to use dark gray, or a darker shade of the base color. Real seams aren't that visible from a distance.

Personal prefference for washes and panel lines aside, that wash does help bring out a lot of details that are otherwise hard to see, on that mold.

None that I have seen, but that?s beside the point.

That's what i'm talking about.

I like pannel lines blackwashed because it helps bring out the fine detailing the artist that sculpted/made the peice and bring it the justice that it deserves. There is alot of heart put into the sculpting and often just looked past because of dark plastic with no highlighting paint aps.

And to me it makes it look more cartoon. In the end it's just the matter of ones preferance.

That is definately interesting. How he fit the Classics Prime in the space for the Powermaster Prime, ansd how he hooked the trailer up to Prime is a mystery though.

Actually, no, Sturmvogel. Re-read his post. He used black wash, not a pen.

I didn't notice this till lately, In cab mod there is a square pegish looking thing at the heels. Makes me think there was a trailer in design, maybe a future release closer to the movie.

I tried putting my Classics Prime in the powermaster prime?s trailer for super robot mode, and it doesn?t fit, the guards on the sides of his legs won?t allow it., so how he managed to accomplish it is beyond me. :?

On an unrelated note, anyone find a good yellow paint for bumblebee. It would be good to get rid of those stripes, but the front windshield and top are clear plastic. Taking off the stripes there means more yellow is needed, and it would be nice to match the yellow everywhere else instead of having to paint everything.
till all are one.

1) I painted the head crest, nose and the tiny face line above the mouthplate silver
2)I removed the blue paint, and then put silver on the details, and topped it off with a reprolabel. (they're not visible in truck mode)
3)I removed the yellow paint from the square part so the yellow isn't so overpowering.
4)I painted the waist silver, and also put silver over the top and the bottom of the main yellow ap as it was overpowering, yet needs to remain at least a little so he matches up well with MP01
5)I painted all of the thighs silver, as well as the yellow on the kneecap
6)I painted the "pump" piece of the gun to touch it up, and that also makes the altmode's smokestacks silver from the front
7)I painted red on the toes to be more in tune with the original, and mp versions of prime, they kinda work as taillights too
8) I painted silver around ALL the windows

NOT SHOWN) I painted the truck grill and bumper both silver.

Much better, now we can actually see your paint aps clearly. One suggestion though, On his feet, they need some silver or white base-coat, preferrably silver, under your red to brighten it up.

i think the red and silver should come down in truck mode instead of the flap being blue.
