Shout Factory doesn't really put alot of energy into packaging design.
Their G1 and Beast Wars DVD set artworks looked pretty good, with the G1 sets having all new art while the Beast Wars art was creatively arranged Mainframe art. And their Beast Machines DVD art looked stunningly gorgeous.

I have the beast wars DVDs and the inside art is pretty cool.

Those shows are produced directly by Cartoon Network so they're making money off of advertising and licensing and whatnot. If the show fails they don't take a huge loss. On the other hand the action shows are typically produced by toy companies that have to produce the animation and buy the air time all with the goal to sell toys. If the toys don't sell then there's no need for the cartoon anymore so they cancel it and cut their losses. Unfortunately this means even good, promising shows like the updated Thundercats can be canceled out of the blue if the toy company (in this case Bandai) isn't selling toys.

Those DVDs are made to appeal to nostalgic adults that will want them to look cool on a shelf. The RID discs are made bright and flashy to get kids' attention.

What about the Armada and Energon DVDs looking just as bland while Cybertron gets a neat-looking DVD set?

Eh, they all had pretty terrible single release covers, but for the collections the Cybertron cover is only mildly better than the other two using a similar generic background, but wedging Megatron and Vector Prime on. It's a better effort, sure, but still pretty weak.

Yeah, but wouldn't the Unicron Trilogy releases also be targeted to nostalgic adults? Kids who grew up on those shows by now aren't kids anymore. ;)

True, but not quite at the nostalgia buying age either. Usually people who are buying things out of childhood nostalgia are out of college, have established careers, and are building families. I think around 2020 we'll see some really cool AEC stuff released.

The pre-nostalgia-buying gap is getting smaller and smaller as people in general are getting more comfortable with the idea of owning toys into adulthood. I wonder if it may wind up generally being eliminated?

Are excited for this announcement? What are your thoughts on the titles, do you think this points to the new antagonist Overload, whom we have already seen is in season 2? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

Yes, we're all excited that Season 2 will begin next week or so. However, even if Overload is a Decepticon, I doubt that he will be the new boss for this Season. Don't forget it's Steeljaw who escaped the explosion after the Autobots threw a bomb at his face in the comics issue #6. Therefore, he survived. There is absolutely no reason that Overload will indeed taken over Steeljaw's place.

Unlike Season 1, instead of the Autobots playing cops-and-robbers with the Decepticons only in the United States, they will do it by traveling to the entire world. There is a strong chance that while they are there hunting down Decepticons in these locations, Steeljaw will very likely sneak into the scrapyard and release all the Decepticons once again without his enemies even realizing it. :D

However, because Hasbro portrayed the animals characters as bad guys, I have an emotional feeling that animals rights groups will protest in the cartoon studios to have that show pulled, because they believe that this show promotes animal cruelty. Well, I do have a message for these people. Activists, you won't take away our show, and you won't take away our toys. And I will stand up not only to you, but to anyone who tends to think that they do have what it takes to take our show away. Because yes, we are fan of RID, and we're proud to stand by it. You know, activists, you may not think that it's okay for us to watch it, but let me tell you this that here in this country, you can have any faith that you want and any lifestyle that you like! :-x

Curious to see how Overload, Crazybolt and the Cyclones are going to work out - we've seen Autobot Cyclones, right? Is there going to an Autobot Cyclone guy? Maybe a body upgrade for one of the existing cast - now that the main cast has mostly got toys (barring Windblade, presumably due to how recently she got a Generations Deluxe) we might see a change like that.

Nope. Buzzsaws are Autobots, Torpedoes are Decepticons, and Cyclones are chaotic neutrals (but are considered Decepticons in the toyline, and might become Decpeticons in the show).

Here, in this box set Undertone is displaying the Autobrand, although advertised as pairing with Overload;Image

Was going by what the show said in the shorts that introduced the Cyclones.

Ah, cool. Was a little surprised to see Alch prisoners that weren't already 'cons - I was getting the impression in RID that being a Decepticonvict is almost a label applied to you rather than a political/military affiliation (makes me wonder about what happened to the term between Prime and RID).

The combination of Autobot Cyclone toys and a doubt that we'd be introduced to a neutral third minicon group that go on to entirely fall in line with the Decepticons makes me think we'll be seeing Autobot Cyclones in-show. My first guess would've been the blue-eyed Overload experiencing a change of heart, but him getting a Decepticon-aligned toy puts a damper on that. Hmm.

I think its a pretty safe bet that much of what was scene in those 5 short videos released on CN website, will be included in the first and or 2nd episodes. It also was confirmed that Cyclones were "chaotic Neutrals", however with Fractue trying to force them to join him, it is a possibility that other Cyclones may join either faction. Or perhaps these will be toy only. After all, Drift & Fracture, each have 2 minicons. it would make sense that Overload would have the two shown in the previous shorts.
