So, I ended up getting TFCC Astrotrain, and he has become part of my ongoing quest to build a nice Cyberverse shelf using repurposed toys. And while I thought TR worked out pretty well, I think the bulk of this guy really helps make him a better fit even if the TR one has the more proper colors. This hulking bruiser works great with Dead End, his natural partner. Sadly, his shuttle bay is just a hair too small for Dead End to ride inside him, but I think they will make a great pair.

also, it feels good to have a version of this mold that will remain an individual. My Powerlinx Jetfire is a nice set of pants for Jetwing Prime, so this helps alleviate the need to uncombine him. I prefer him as legs anyway, I am not that big a fan of the trailer for Armada Prime

Added the Requiem blaster as well

The colors look great together. And when a big robot like Jet Optimus with Overload and a Requiem Blaster is on the battlefield then you don't wan't to be on the receiving end of that firepower from a giant like that.

I finally acquired the figure that has been at the top of my "holy grail" list for some sixteen years:

Cybertron Soundwave.

Soundwave is my favourite Decepticon, and Cybertron was my first introduction to the character, even before I watched G1. Six-year-old me liked the design, and the unique modulation of his voice, which I was pleased to discover was a trait he shared with G1 Soundwave, strengthening my interest in the character. I have gotten several other Soundwaves since, but the absence of this one was always felt, especially once I found a Sideways years ago. I came across a complete one for a reasonable price on eBay while looking for other things, and decided it was finally time.

He did not disappoint.

Such an interesting mold, to the point where my first experience with it was Universe2.0 Blaster and it intrigued me enough to keep it as a definitive Cybertronian G1 version up to FOC. That limited GF repaint of him is intriguing as well but i have never seen a great video of him yet. I know it was an exclusive release but a 3 way comparison of them would be top notch, by someone at some point.

Yeah, it's pretty damn neat (and IMO beats the pants off BB Soundwave as far as looking alien-yet-G1 goes). I still need to get one myself.

I have both Cybertron Soundwave and Universe Blaster, they're good looking figures but I've never really thought of it as being much fun to play with. The wings are one solid piece across and get in the way of the arm kibble which is big and hard to maneuver on both arms really limiting movement. The legs are skinny and him being so top heavy they aren't the greatest for balance. In bomber mode it's a little hard to get everything aligned just right to sandwich everything together.

This picture illustrates all my issues with him nicely. The arm kibble has to be tucked behind the rigid wings to point them down and the legs have to be spread far to get a solid stance for display.

Image

Honestly, I bought him new at the time and wasn't that impressed then while handling a lot of Cybertron figures. Obviously he wasn't bad enough to make me not buy Blaster and I'd still like to get Soundblaster someday, but I feel like he's taken on this mythic status as some amazing toy when to me he's always just been a cool looking figure that's annoying to play with.

At least if they ever did a new one he'd have ankle tilts and they'd be able to do something more interesting with the kibble.

A couple of simple hinges would probably do the trick, make the wings able to bend back out of the way a bit.

He has issues, but he's still really cool looking.
As for the rosy view... Maybe some of it stems from people who were screwed by Warner yoinking Cybertron back to cable (and who thus lost track of it) not discovering him til later.

It would have been interesting to have seen it revisited for Siege (and at the time I hoped it would be) or even the BB movie, but if they had I never would have tracked down this one. It sort of did take on a "mythical" status for me after so long, but having it in hand, it lives up to expectations (at least my own). Even with its flaws, it feels so good to finally have this thing in my collection. Such a thing to behold!

I'm the opposite - I originally watched only the second half when it was on Cartoon Network. I saw him on the screen and dug him.

Pity the Siege one can't pull that off, but it keeps the play features of the original unique. Very impressive!

I got Cybertron Soundwave not too long ago, and whilst I do agree he's been somewhat overhyped to mythical status (probably due to being the best quasi-G1 Soundwave avaiable for years) I do like him rather a lot. His transformation is kinda fiddly and I do wish his poseability was a bit better in spots, but he is undeniably incredibly striking. Also I love his Laserbeak.

One figure I'm very tempted to buy at the moment is Armada Terrorsaur. I've seen one MISB for a very decent price, and I kinda want to grab him as I always kinda wanted him as a kid. How is that mold? Whilst obviously he's bereft of chrome (booooo) this also means he won't be shedding it like shiny dandruff, and I honestly love the colours. Also, Minicon ports! Yay!

Never cared for the colors (preferred the original purple and proposed Fractyl and comic Ravenus), but yeah, it's a good mold. I like his lanky body, especially how it looks nothing like the other TM molds, has great articulation, and he holds his weapons well thanks to pegs in his palms. Beast mode is convincing enough, though his legs don't really fit underneath quite right and his "vehicle" mode is just exposing rockets in his butt, but overall it's a great figure.

Ironically, it was that incident between Grimlock and Octopunch that led to Primus waking up in the comics.

Yes, yes it did. Painfully. In a manner that spoilt his plan to avoid drawing Unicron's attention. So I imagine he'd be a liiiittle annoyed with the pair of them.

At the risk of straying off topic, I must ask this question. How is it that a single basic laser blast can wake up an ancient Transformer god after bouncing off a Transformer's armor, even if it's Grimlock? Was Furman saying Grimlock is tougher than Primus? Or is Octopunch's blaster just that powerful?

My favourite version of Jetfire. Loved him in the cartoon, and his jet mode undeniably has one of the cleanest underbellies of any jet Transformer. ;)^

I got my Armada Terrorsaur in the post today! Took a while to get him out of his plastic and cardboard sarcophagus (it did feel oddly heretical to be destroying 19 year old packaging but oh well) but I really, really like him. Deco is simple but cool, love the "energon corruption" apps and the general toxic colour scheme. Also one really cool thing I've noticed is a few spots picked out with holographic chrome (that is, it shines all rainbowy like a CD under the light). I don't think I've ever seen that on a TF before! His articulation is mixed- the legs are fantastic but the arms are a touch limited. Transformation is straightforward and effective and the beast mode is great. His Minicon is perhaps not one of the best of the line but does the job, and is a nice bonus. Overall I'm really happy to have him!

He also came with the Universe CD-ROM but I need to get an external disc drive to use it as my PC doesn't have a disc drive built in. Bummer.
Ha ha Transformers go brrrrr
