THE WRECKERS - Whats your Neo-Classics line-up?

PostPosted: Mon Jul 16, 2012 8:52 am

Greetings Seibertronians!

Everyones favourite hit squad The Wreckers seem to be getting a lot of love recently, so what better time for the ultimate line up!

I would like to put together a classics team which covers all our wrecking buddies but I need a few suggestions from my fellow alien robot lovers as who would make it to the final few..? :-?

Lets keep articulation and posability on a par with the current classics engineering or as close as possible, also keeping in mind availability too (that rare Botcon exclusive will possibly be out of reach for most)!

Lists or an actual group photo would be great to see! If you want to suggest the odd head swap, lets see the love! 8)

I still have to read the Marvel UK run, so the Wreckers I know the best are the IDW formation.

With that in mind, I did try putting a squad together:

But they are now in Italy, with some misfits from the other shelves:

I'm running an old school Wreckers grouping with City Commander as Magnus, Defender as Springer, TRU MoM Whirl with Head Robots upgrade as Whirl and Target comic pack Roadbuster as Roadbuster, sadly without any augmentation as yet but I'm fully intending to give him the make over treatment at some point now that the upgrade parts are easily available through Shapeways. Broadside will be Assaulter and I'm thinking the HA basics Sandstorm may fit the bill for that one. I don't want to sacrifice my RiD Bludgeon but if I ever pick up a second one he'll likely end up as an Impactor custom. Topspin, Twintwist and Rack'n'Ruin still elude me as to who or what would make suitable stand ins.

I have an eclectic Wreckers group on my shelf:
FP Defender is Springer
RotF Whirl with the Headmasters Upgrade kit
Universe Roadbuster + NATObot upgrade kit
Botcon Thunderclash
Botcon Landshark
Botcon Flak
TFCon Powered Commander (I call him Powershift)
Custom Rack 'n' Ruin
Custom Rotorstorm
Botcon '05 Ricochet
RobotMasters Reverse Convoy
Grindcore

Upcoming Wreckers:
Assaulter will be Broadside (duh)
Topspin
Twin Twist

My rule is that when I get a canon Wrecker, such as Topspin or TwinTwist, then I have to remove a non-cannon one.

GAH! I knew I'd forgotten one! He's in there too. It's tricky pulling a specific shelf from memory as my collection is over 700 KMs away right now.

Very good lists so far folk!
Feel free to throw in your own customs or homages (hello 3rd party players)!

The Wreckers often changed line up offer us a wealth of characters to play with (pardon the pun) which makes for an awesome team in my opinion!

If there hasnt been a character represented in recent years, how do you fill that gap?
Mkall wrote:My rule is that when I get a canon Wrecker, such as Topspin or TwinTwist, then I have to remove a non-cannon one.

Does that old Cybertron figure with the similiar paint scheme make a good stand-in? Will that Machine Wars figure really fit in with current stylings? Lets hear ya folks!!

Can you post pictures of your customs please?

Okay folks... lets open up the options a little more? ;)

Would anyone consider using any of the Marvel Crossovers, Star Wars Crossovers, Fansproject Causality, TF Prime/Cybertron/Energon as a Wrecker stand-in?

With the many repaints Hasbro put out and the possibility of swapping compatible sized heads without too many problems, what has been your most creative achievement when it came to that killer Wreckers line up? :-B

For Roadbuster, I'm using that crappy CD Hot Shot redeco from the Universe line a few years back. Without the old 3rd-party upgrade for him... still kicking myself for missing out on that.

Pretty much my set up too, except I don't have the Whirl upgrade and I DO have the NATO-bot kit for Roadbuster.

Here is my current lineup...

Springer - FP Warbot
Roadbuster - CM Corp's Mugen Calibur
Whirl - Customised DOTM Skyhammer
Image
Guzzle - DOTM Cyberverse Guzzle
Blurr - 'Classics' Blurr
Kup - 'Classics' Kup

I might have to buy the new Wreckers combiner, for Topspin/Twintwist and Impactor.
Really need someone to come up with Rack'n'Ruin.

I tend to leave Magnus out of it, and Drift as well, because I hate him.

I don't see why RnR would be out of place. He existed as a TF character in the past, and I'm quite enamoured with the little twin-bot(s). He has every right to be on my shelf as Drift does.

I'm staying away from the Crossover lines, they're nothing but sub-par Transformers and I've combed through all past lines and collected all the caracters I've wanted to integrate into my collection. While there are many cool figures, none of them have that je ne c'est pas to stand with the Wreckers IMO. There was one exception, and that was Energon Landmine, but he was replaces with Botcon Landshark eventually. Another one I liked was the Grindcore repaint of Cybertron Landmine. Cyb Landmine is my Classics Scoop, who was a pseudo-Wrecker in some stories, but he fit better elsewhere on my shelves so Grindcore got in.

There was the Cybertron Defence Team, but I like to keep those three seperate.

As I said on the last page you can still get the Natobot kit, just in a different form. The parts are now available through Shapeways with the option of an updated gun or the original one and printed in your choice of colour. It might involve a little more work than the original version of the kit, but you'll be getting the parts in plastic rather than resin. It's certainly an option I'm planning on pursuing when my finances are looking healthy and I've not got a convention looming.

That would fill a few gaps but Id be concerned about their height? Are they going to be deluxe sized or scout sized? :???:

I made it from Drift's lower leg.

I reckon they will be scout sized, but I'm not too worried if they are smaller than the others, as long as they are in scale with each other. they will both be bigger than Guzzle, anyways.

Not that that's difficult, in all fairness! :D

I still maintain that they are somewhere in between, size-wise.
Have size comparison pictures appeared for the Combaticons yet?

You're probably right, if Onslaught is a deluxe class, and we know they have shrunk considerably, then it stands to reason that the limbs will be smaller than scout. I reckon they'll look OK though. I think Topspin/Twintwist look really nice. The others? not so much.

They're all supposed to be Deluxe class though, so they will be the same size as Onslaught.
So still a little bigger than older Scout size.

As I said, I'd like to see them scaled next to something from the Classics/Generations/RtS lines, in robot mode.

Oh right, I didn't realise they were deluxes. I'm hoping you can buy them seperately, as you could buy 2 topspins and paint one blue - he seems to sresemble the old figures better.

I believe the only complete sets are SDCC Bruticus and Amazon/BBTS exclusive G2 Bruticus. All retail should be single figures! ;)

I think the only figure I'm missing from the IDW Wreckers (AHM team, not LSTOW) is Springer.
Is that correct, or am I forgetting someone?

My lineup:

Defendor as Springer,
City Commander as Ultra Magnus,
CM's Mugen Calibur as Roadbuster,
ROTF Brawn as Guzzle (I prefer it to DOTM Guzzle)
Generations Kup, Drift, Perceptor and Blurr.

Waiting for FOC Impactor, Top Spin and Twin Twist.
Waiting for Assaulter.
For Rack 'N Ruin I'm waiting for these parts to be available:

Thaat looks good.

Perhaps many are still going for the 'alive Wreckers', but Ironfist from E-Strongarm or any of his repaints is a fairly good version.

Pyro I haven't decided on yet. Classics Inferno would work with repainting and the new Hot Spot head.

I believe Mkall showed a nice customized Rotorstorm.

Actually, if there were bigger a version of Beast Machines Obsidian, he would make a good recent IDW version of Whirl.
