Thundercats! New and old

With the new toy line and new Cartoon out I thought there should be a Thundercats thread.
With that being said...Anyone going to collect the new figs? If so Has anyone found any yet and if so what stores? I've been looking but haven't seen the first one yet at retail. I am looking for the new "classic" figures, of which they are only doing Lion o and Tygra so far, but I haven't found em yet. I have also been collecting the original figures kinda off and on for several years now but just recently started trying to aquire more in the last couple of weeks.

Found the whole line of the 'new' Thundercats toys at my local TRU. I picked up the 4" Cheetara, but I can't say I'm thrilled.
She's got three swivel joints in her first quarter-inch of thigh, no wrist joints at all, or ankle joints. She's also got exposed shoulder rivets and sub-par paint apps on her limbs. My personal Cheetara also came out of the package with bent ankles, which wouldn't matter much if she came with a stand.

Also, she's got a huge F%@king magnet sticking out of her back and through her hair. Her head can't turn, though, so it doesn't make much difference there.

Man that is disappointing. I expect better from ban dai. Maybe the 6" figs will be less gimmicky. I myself would probably prefer the 6" figures but I still haven't seen any.

I am really holding out for the Classics figs too. Toys r Us online has all the figures listed but of course the Classic Lion o and Tygra are out of stock. I saw Tygra in stock on line the other day but I am hoping to just get them at reatail. Kmarts website also has the new figures listed but no classics that I saw. And last i checked Wal Mart had nothing listed at all. Those are the three retailers Ban Dai has listed on their site for where to buy all the new toys but i'm assuming they'll be available everywhere sooner or later.

The 6-inch stuff looks a little better, but yeah, I can't help but wish that someone like Mattel was handling the toys instead of Bandai.

Can we get Kotobukiys to release Play Arts kai Thundercats? That would be epic. =P~

The Play Arts Kai line is the only one that can do this right.

classic Lion-O if I should find him will be the first figure I want above all and the classic Tigra before I consider getting the 4" figures

Bandai could do justice to the Thundercats designs, new or old, but not at the price point that most American toy buyers that the show is targeted at are going to be used to. A modified S.H. Figuarts styled approach could be used for the 6" Thundercats line and a S.I.C. Kiwami Tamashii styled approach could be used for the 3.75" Thundercats line. However, the average price of SHF figures is just over $30 USD and the average price of S.I.C. KT figures are about $14 USD. Both prices don't include shipping fees.

The main problems with using the Play Arts Kai line is that the figures are quite expensive to with an average price of over $50 USD without shipping fees.

I think that the most plausible alternative to Bandai would be Mattel if they hired the Four Horsemen to handle the figure sculpts and design. Implement a range of figure types similar to how the WWE action figures are divided(Basic for $10-$12 but less articulation and Elite for $18-$20 but superior articulation) so that a variety of toy buyers could afford to buy the toys.

Well, Play Arts Kai doesn't aim towards kids. A super detailed line on the Play Arts Kai level would be aimed towards collectors since the figures would average $40 a piece.

Bandai's designs don't really impress me much. They always seem like they could do better.

I'm not sure who Four Horsemen are.

Exactly...Thundercats isn't aimed largely at collectors. It's a brand mainly aimed at North American kids. It's not likely that WB thinks that a line of $40 price point figures would sell well in the NA market. That's why the Thundercats Classics figures are priced at about $20. The Masters of the Universe Classics figures are the closest thing I can think of that WB would consider emulating for a collector oriented toy line.

I'm curious about which Bandai designs you're not impressed much with. Bandai produces such a wide variety of toy products, some of which are certainly mediocre such as some of their Super Sentai toys. However, to be honest, I can't think of any strong rivals to Bandai's cream of the crop toy lines such as Soul of Chogokin, S.H. Figuarts, S.I.C., and S.I.C. Kiwami Tamashii.

robofreak wrote:I'm not sure who Four Horsemen are.

They're a group of toy sculptors and designers who first hit it big working for McFarlane Toys and then went independent. They have sculpted many of the DCU and DCC figures, and are probably most well known for their work on the Masters of the Universe Classics figures.

Well, for bandai designs, I haven't been impressed with a lot of their mass retail stuff. Power Rangers use to have so much more detail than what they now have. Heck, I remember when the average megazord was $40 and now they sit at the $25 price range.

I completely forgot that Sould of Chogokin was done by Bandai. My bad there.

However, for me, the only real thing that's any good now from them are their Gunpla kits.

Alright, so this line finally showed up at a local store for me(TRU is a good half day's trip), so I gave it another try. This time, I got Wilykit. The paint is better, and the board is pretty cool. She's only got three joints, but I wasn't expecting much more for her size. The magnet gimmick continues to be an issue. As I said about Cheetara, the magnet on her prevents head movement. Wilykit's magnet is poorly placed for different reasons. It's in her butt. I don't know why the magnets need to be so big, or why the obviously young children need to interact with the tank or the motorcycles.

Walmart by me has these. The Classics look pretty nice, almost got Lion-O, but I put him back. I'm gonna regret it , I know. They also had the play sword, but no claw shield (looks pimp).

What's the price for the Classics figs at Wal Mart? BBTS should have them any day now and their price is about $34 plus ship for Tygra and Lion o together or 17 a piece, Which seems pretty good. TRU has them listed for 19.99 a piece. If I don't see them soon I may go with BBTS.

They are about $17 each at Walmart

I'm pretty interested in purchasing a few. The Classics are definitely what i want the most and i hope they do follow through with the rest. I would think if Tygra and Lion-O don't sell well (or the entire line for that matter) it could seriously hamper any other releases such as a Cheetara or a Panthro. I'm sure they have them designed though. I've yet to see any figs yet anywhere though as of yet.

As for the current figs. To be honest, the only figure i'm interested in is Mumm-Ra in his withered up mummy form. I've got the original so i'll switch up the Sword of Plun-Darr holster he comes with and give him the staff that he should have had from my original.

For some reason the 4 and 6 inch figures just don't do it for me. They just seem a little off to me. I don't know.......maybe i'll warm up to them but from the reviews i've seen on youtube the poseability is a bit of an issue and the magnet gimmick isn't my cup of tea either. The line does have a tonne of potential though and i'll be watching it pretty closely.

The are finally starting to show up in my area. I saw the whole 4" line and the 6' line at a walmart and TRU. I can't believe the 6 " figures are 14.99 at Wal Mart and 17.99 at TRU. I did fork out the money for the classic figures, 19.99 at TRU. They look great! However I honestly wish they weren't as big as they are. They might be better, and certainly more affordable, if they were closer to 6" in size or the size of the original figures.
I honestly don't think the 4" or 6" fogures look bad at all. I know there are aesthetic problems with the gimmicks, but the likeness to the cartoon designs and the paint apps are pretty accurate imo. But the 6" figures do look noticeably better overall than the 4" figures.
However I prefer the original character designs to the new ones. For example panthro really doesn't look like Panthro to me. I guess I'm just G1 like that. I did watch the premiere episode which I thought was excellent, haven't seen any of the eps after that. I do think this line has promise with a strong new cartoon to back it.
here's to hoping they continue with the classic figures. I'd really like to see pretty much all the original characters redone in the new classic series.

looked for them today but all stores were either wiped out or just didnt have them(or had no clue what a thundercat was). At walmart i was told they werent getting them cause they're not ordering them but other walmarts might get them, Target had no clue, kmart there was no one to ask but the website said sold out, the first TRU said check back monday, the 2nd TRU said one guy bought them all yesterday and the 3rd TRU said 2 people bought them all yesterday (greedy bastards), they also told me that alot of people are asking about them so maybe they'll order more next time. How much you wanna bet that the prices are going to be jacked up at TRU in the next few weeks

Odd, both my local Walmarts have nearly the entire line. So far, the only thing I haven't seen yet is the Tower of Omens playset.

the stores around me suck they either dont order stuff or they order 1 case, especially the walmarts. They were good when i was a kid but in the past few years they just stopped giving a ****. Its just not the toys either its pretty much every thing. I never hear anyone say "oh that store is great" anymore. Only way im going to find them is if i just wait for the craze to die down or i find some way to get to the stores early on shipment day cause I refuse to pay inflated ebay prices and i cant afford to pay for shipping.
