I think the term you're looking for is generasaur :-P

I've always just considered him a robot dinosaur and that works for me [-(

Kinda resembles this fella a bit though...

OK, let's bring the pic up again:

Image

1.) I agree that he's not a T-Rex. Then again, "T-Rex" is slapped on any giant meat-eating Dinosaur, however wrong it may be. Since we have a penchant for being technical, he's more of a generic Carnosaur, or even related to Allosaurus by the size of his arms, and number of claws (Tyrannosaurus rex only had two). Outdated posture remains

2) I see no real Titan Master connection points anywhere, but that may be due to his overall size. I maintain my position on the gimmick being used for Full-Tilt instead, like Cerebros did for Fortress Maximus. But where's the cockpit?

3.) There haven't been any motorized TF's since BWII Gigastorm, or G2's Power Masters if we're talking original toys (correct me if I'm wrong, please). I don't see Hasbro using expensive gimmicks like that on him. Light and sounds, definitely. As for the purple struts on his feet, just for show and toy-accuracy I guess, even tho the cartoon didn't have them (yet the original Kabaya kit did)

4.) Speaking of accuracy, is he totally toy-based, or have the designers been sneaky and sculpted detail of his alternate character model used in Scramble City: Mobilization?

5.) He's gonna be mahoosive (I always wanted to use that word)!
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Weapon: Dual Slime Lasers
Maybe the forehead cannon is removable and Tryp's unicorn horn lid is the Titan Master cockpit? Also I think I can see a Titan Master footpeg near his toes on the outside of his foot and maybe also on the inside between the purple struts.

Honestly I've never seen the G1 cartoon besides the movie. So I'm disappointed it doesn't take anything from the idw or wfc designs. Without the nostalgia goggles, this thing looks kinda stupid.

I honestly never ever saw him as a T-Rex either, but that might be because I grew up in the 90s where a T Rex looked very different from that (then again, Grimlock looked like T rex to me).

Hmm, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I don't know what I was expecting but it probably should've just been this. It looks a little too much like the G1 brick to me. Then again it might be the very static pose and unflattering cg render. I'll wait till ToyFair to make any final-ish decisions.

This is just me talking, but if people want a G1 toy you then buy the actual G1 toy. What you really want already exists,
If you don't want a G1 toy then stop complaining about how something isn't G1 enough.
Personally I wasn't around for G1. The Idw figures they did a few years back got me into tf collecting. And I wish they never stopped making them, but I'm still enjoying titans return as something new. Because it is something new, this Trypticon is an entirely new figure and design to me, and while I'd prefer something Idw, people saying it's a tf godzilla have me excited for it, although I feel like it would have been better if it wasn't so slavishly G1.
I guess what I'm saying is it don't limit innovation for fear of change.

I know it's a matter of opinion, but there are things out there that are better. Most transformers media is better than G1. The Idw comics, transformers prime (may it rest in peace) and the foc/wfc games. They may not look the same, but they are still just better versions of the original.
Why must everything look exactly the same as it did 30 years ago?

Haven't been on this site for a while, but I gotta say, Trypticon looks really neat, but I do question as to why he wasn't released earlier. I personally feel that with Hasbro making this guy 4 years after Metroplex was released, and with a new Titan figure being released almost every year since Metro was made, how come he wasn't released in 2014? Sure, Devastator came out in 2015, but then we got a new Fort Max around the time Hasbro made a poll for Omega Supreme, Trypticon, and Scorponok. Weird, isn't it? Seems like we won't get an official Scorponok to go with Fort Max until 2020.

And I don't think the Titan Master gimmick could fit for the dino head, though Full-Tilt could do something about it. Only Toy Fair can inform us on this!

I also like the rid designs, thunderhoof and bisk in particular are great. I wonder if in 30 years fans will complain that Grimlock should be a green dinosaur with an underbite?

Those same tines were on the original G1 version and were used for stability. So I'd lean towards him walking.

I, for one, hope he does NOT walk. Jamming in actual machinery and electronics just 'takes away' from the figure, IMO. Even putting in light and sound chips with battery cavities usually forces the designers to remove other features from the figure to make room for the electronics. I am more than willing to sacrifice a clunky, plodding walking gimmick that won't work properly, in order for the designers to jam in all kinds of other stuff like missile bays, more clever transformation, and so on.

The G1 Trypticon had struts connecting the dino arms to the legs, so that the arms would raise and lower when Trypticon was walking. I see no such connection in this photo. They may have simply put those spurs onto the feet just 'because' G1 Trypticon had them.

It doesn't, and from what I've read, no one is asking for that. I personally am disappointed that it looks so much like his G1 self.

Yeah, it's nice getting G1-esque figures with modern engineering (growing with them and playing with semi-bricks then people would understand, not necessarily sympathise) but most of us "G1-ers" actually DO like different takes on things.

My concern is that Trypticon will follow in the footsteps of Fortress Maximus and end up just a up-scaled version of his G1 self with no major significant changes to the point that those of us who have a G1 Trypticon may as well overlook this guy.

DeathReviews wrote:I, for one, hope he does NOT walk.

I definitely agree that light and sound chips plus the space for batteries can really hinder figures.

Looking back at him, the struts are actually in line with each other, the G1 version had them off-centred as the rolled over each other as he walked, so it may just be a stability / nod.
