I'm fairly certain that's the Trypticon prototype that was on display at Hasbro during the Hasbro HQ tour that was part of HASCON 2017 back in September. We weren't allowed to take pictures this time around like we were back in 2007, so I can't remember if it was multi colored or gray scale.

So... Trypticon. Should I get him? Yay or nay? I've heard both good and bad from random people on the internet so I thought I'd come here to ask if he's worth it, since you can't really trust the random comments on the internet (like our first president Elvis Presley said in a Tweet: "Internet's untrustworthy uh huh huh")

Anyhoo, is he worth it?

Also, I'm fairly certain I can fix any QC issues I might encounter.

I'll toss a "yes" vote in, too! Tryp is a fun figure and my favorite Generations cityformer so far. His potential QC issues, while multitudinous, are pretty much all fixable and are getting rarer and rarer in new copies as later runs of the figure fixed each problem. I'd say for regular retail price, he's worth it, but if you can find him for a decent chunk off he's worth it.

O'course, we're all just random people on the internet at the end of the day. Go with your gut - I often ask advice on things like this, hear what people have to say, and then go "nah I'll do the other thing instead". Opinions are good not just because they tell you what others think, but they can help you work out what you think too :D

Well, some have expressed grief over the QC issues and the exhausting amount of foil stickers (but then again, no one likes the foil stickers that have been used on all the TR figures anyway).

Just picked up TR Trypticon from Amazon. Thankfully the hips are fine. However, the green panel that holds Full Tilt looks like it just stays in place via friction? It's quite loose and basically flops down when I have Full Tilt attached. Am I doing something wrong or is mine missing something? I don't see anything to tab in.

As far as I have seen, it is quite floppy for nearly everyone. Part of the problem for mine was that it was warped. There should be two bumps that sort of tab in. But, with the warp, the door has a tendency to pop out of one side. Then, with only one side secured, it quite easily pops out of the other side.

It is possible to carefully, with a hair dryer (heat gun too, but this is riskier) to gently heat the door and flatten it on a counter or table to remove the warp. I did that to mine, and it stays snugly in place, even with Full Tilt secured to the chest. Good luck!

Thanks Ag. I remember seeing some people talking about this so I did go back a few pages and saw the chatter on it. And yep, the door is slightly warped. The top left (when facing Tryp) pops out about 1 cm. You must be a mind reader. My next question was if anyone tried using a blowdryer to fix the warp. I may give it a try, thanks!

That's unfortunate to hear since I just got one off Amazon from the Cyber Monday sale (arrives Friday, these sales kill Prime 2 day shipping...). I had hoped that at this point they'd be sending out the new stock with the issues fixed, but I guess that just goes to show how many of theses they've been sitting on if they're still trying to unload the first runs with all the flaws. Oh well, still worth it at over $50 off.

I'll go even farther than just a yes, and say that of the 3 titan city-formers, he is the best.

Agreed that Trypticon is awesome. The only issue mine had was the warped chest. But with the banged up box, I opted to get a replacement. Thankfully the hips were not an issue.

If your replacement also ends up warped, I had the same problem, which I was able to mostly fix without applying heat.

First I attached Full Tilt, then I opened the chest door and closed it but only tabbing in the side that normally pops out. The other side was sort of just stuck in the doorway with friction. Basically I left him in city or spaceship mode for a few weeks with full tilt attached and let gravity work on it for a while. The warp isn't completely gone, but it is much less and allows the door to close regularly. After the "fix" I have found that if you leave him in Dino mode for a while (like a few weeks) the door will pop partially open over time, but otherwise works just fine. Might be worth a try before applying heat, especially if you are worried about causing damage from too much heat.

Thanks Kev! I'll keep this in mind.

Curious if anyone else tried any different methods that worked? Would nail polish on the tabs, making it a little thicker and easier to tab into the holes, work?

I'm really scratching my head at this design decision. I'm not a toy designer or anything close to it, but the decision to make that door basically friction in with 2 extremely thin tabs seems poor given the fact that Full Tilt is fairly heavy with gravity on its side.

I got Trypticon, and had I actually had the money to do it I would gladly have bought him at full price. He is a great figure, the best city former we have gotten, and in my opinion the 2nd best titan class figure to only Devastator.

Mine has a slightly warped chest plate, but that's really it. The hips haven't failed on me, and nothing else is bad. The stickers were a pain though, I had so many either rip or start to peal the back paper off with it. They really need to stop with these stickers.

Also something cool: Titan Master Scorponok works pretty well with the titan master cannon thingy on Tryp's head. He fits, the colors are pretty good, and he makes Trypticon smart! That is where mine is displayed now, with Necro sticking with Full Tilt.

Only the knees were fixed, the warped door is also found on the later versions too, that was never fixed.

That would be enough (though I'm pretty sure some people reported getting an OK door on the latest version), but the earliest version doesn't have the little nubs on the door to help keep it closed (if you can get the door to flatten). That's the version I want to avoid the most.

I think you might be mixing up your nubs. I think it is the tail ramp that was missing the nubs on some versions, not the chest door. Although, who really knows.

I think I had one of the earliest lot numbers and I had both tail numbs and chest numbs.

Oh, probably. I made a list somewhere in this thread matching all of the flaws found on each lot number, but I don't feel like looking for it. Whatever the case, I need my nubs. :-D

Just got mine a couple of days ago. Hips seem to be fine, but the chest door flops open if you so much as breathe on it when Full-tilt is attached.
