Toss out Powerpinch and Cybershark then put in Transmetals Rhinox and Waspinator at the 1 and 2 spots.

My #1 would be a tie between both versions of Spittor. An amazing case of 2 toys just plain having personality, and two different personalities at that, despite clearly being the same character, one of the few non-show characters to get two different toys in the line (were Cybershark and Iguanus the only others?)

His first toy was weaponless, his tongue-shooting ability being awesome but not a convincing attack. But add in his 6-legged mutant frog form, the tongue thing making him TF Mechaneck in robot mode, and his orangutan-like bot proportions combining with awesome articulation, and you've got a Pred who just gets more awesome the more you play with him!

The simple elegance of the original contrasts totally with his Transmetal 2 toy being more complex and weapon-packed than any of the other TM2 basics, but it totally worked as showing he'd matured into a more powerful and reliable warrior over time. Some reviewer back in the day posited that his poison-secreting ability mentioned in the first bio meant his function was to get stabbed by all the Preds with melee weapons to get poison on their blades before each battle, but TM2 Spittor looked like a scout who was badass enough to survive on his own for months in the wilderness. I'm basing that partly on his shiny back/shoulder claw looking like both a shooting weapon and long range communication device. And if that wasn't enough evidence of his espionage prowess, although his articulation was downgraded from crazy to satisfactory, he could still hold his odd tongue weapon in just the right position before his face to say:

"Toilet-Brush of Omens! Give me sight-beyond-sight"

Okay, maybe that's just my headcanon born of Toonami both debuting the last 5 eps of season 2 and reigniting my love of Thundercats...but Beast Wars was sort of a cross between G1 TF and Thundercats. I guarantee the next time you handle Spittor's Transmetal 2 toy, you'll find yourself saying it too.

Oh, and the rest of my list would go:

#2: Manterror: As I mentioned long ago, he can do EXTREME yoga, and shoot saw blades?!? What more could you ask for?

#3: Jetstorm: I always loved the Triggercons, and he does them one better by having twin launchers that actually fire in addition to being deployable in both modes.

...and yeah, Cybershark and Powerpinch at #4 and #5.

I should probably give Sky Shadow, Torca, and Scourge a chance someday, but Sky Shadow just looked ugly, Torca had a nonsensical color choice (gold being my least favorite color to boot) and the organic-grille-mouth struck me as off-putting, and Scourge epitomized what I dislike about asymmetry, so I never got them back in the day.

But to end on a less negative note, I'll nominate Noctorro for an honorable mention. His robot mode just screams with doofy confidence that his is indeed a vampire, a bullfighter, and a luchador; precisely the personality that a Fuzor toy should exude!

Thanks man, this is a really subjective list so don't worry about a toy you love not making it. Why don't you give us your top 5, would sky shadow be your number 1?

I just never liked those all that much myself. And as a kid, I didn't care about the third mode they gave many of these toys, I still feel that way now. It also wasn't too smart to have Rhinox' horn be an accessory, losing it meant the beast mode was ruined.

I can vouch for the idea to have TM Rhinox horn be an accessory, as when I worked in a second hand toyshop, all the rhinox's we got in were missing the horns. He was a fun toy but I'd mark him down for that. My top 5? Hmm it would be controversial as I'd slap both Combiners on there. It would actually be a hard list mind as there was so many good toys in the beast wars lines

Oh my, just cast a glance at my Beast shelves, and there are a few very noticeable omissions:

1) Razorbeast. That is a frikkin fun basic! The mold colors, the transformation, the modes themselves, they are really good. He is really good.

2) Jawbreaker. Poor guy was the only Beast besides some happy meal toys to not be in the IDW Beast Wars comics. Dude is sick looking! That beast mode is the coolest looking beast mode we have gotten in the TM2s.

3) Noctorro. just another fun figure. simple Fuzor, but he's fun, and demonic looking. Plus the beast mode has a pretty neat flapping gimmick. He's pretty fun to me

One of the things I loved about the Beast Wars line is that 90% of it was made up of non-show characters. Sure, you always had your Cheetor and your Optimus Primal, but you had an entire cast of other characters to choose from for your collection. The level of creativity on display was off the charts.

AllNewSuperRobot wrote:Ravage was a nice bit of Geewun fan service (as most of The Agenda was). Another tiny look behind the curtain of how Predacon society differed from the Maximal equivalent. Unfortunately, you never got that much more insight beyond that.

I think Tarantulas worked a bit better than Terrorsaur or Blackarachnia, as his goals were not quite as limited as theirs. Terrorsaur had potential to transcend the Starscream trope, as Megatron did enjoy the noted character growth of Season Two. Alas he never reached that point.

Yeah true, I liked that they included Ravage just not how they used him and how easily he got taken out when in the same episode other Predacons were taken out much worse or similar and survived. Although i do recognise that the Tarantulas drones deliberately knocked his head into the ocean stopping him from being put back together etc.

By the Agenda episodes Tarantulas was given a solid 'mission' of his own although they could've explained more about who and what the Tripredacus council were (I do not like the Unicron rubbish that came after, another example of fans hearing words and not listening to context).

How Terrorsaur would've worked in late season 2 and 3 I'm not sure as i've not thought about it for some time. Maybe Terrorsaur and Scorponok could've become a loyal duo to the decepticons and ravage and been bit/guest characters along with Ravage.

To be fair, I think the writers would have been more then happy to go along with the fan interpretation, just as much as they never countered the Vox is the swarm theory. There's also the very real possibility that it would have been something much, much stupider like Primacon creating the council and tarantulus. It's best left as is.

Well, the deaths in The Agenda were in part down to Mainframe not knowing if they would get a Season 3. Hence Rampage and Inferno being virtually incinerated and being perfectly fine in the next episode.
Much in the same way Tarantulas and Tigerhawk were killed off so quickly in Season 3.

The 'Unicron Spawn' line will always be contentious. A slur, no doubt. But some always read more into things than others. Like how some fans accredit Beast Wars with having links to the G1/G2 comics, purely based on what those behind the scenes have said after the fact. To me, the show has no links to the comics, because it was never featured or directly referenced in a single episode. Which is the only source that counts.

As for Terrorsaur, there was actually an episode of Animated that gave me an idea on where he might have gone. Wherein Starscream created his own clone/Seeker brigade. That could have worked for him. Also elaborating more on the Season one idea of Cybertronian intellect being overtaken by the more bestial nature of the organics integrated in them. As for Scorponok, leave him where he sank...

As an aside, I do hold out the faintest hope that one day we might get a Masterpiece Beast Wars Ravage from The Agenda. One that transforms from a vague TM Cheetor body mold into a Cassette.

We all love a cliffhanger ending... :-( LOL. Tarantulas made it 10/11 episodes Tigahawk was pointless for me nothing than more "hey kids look at this toy".

Honestly (for me) the Unicorn line for me was nothing more than a slur and taken way out of context, I honestly cannot express how much I hate the Tarantulas/Unicron thing. For me there should've/could've been a Quintesson to me they make more sense than Unicron. (I literally wrote a sequel to BM in 2001/2002 with a friend [probably awful] using the Qunitessons). Could agree more about the G2 thing another thing taken way out of context, keep the Vok away from the the Swarm :BANG_HEAD:.

Yeah I can see Terrorsaur doing that with a few of the other status pods Lazorbeak & Fractyl come to mind. Then I guess Tarantulas tried to do the the with spiders early season 1. The more I look at the Cybertron series Dark Scorponok I think that could've been BW Scorponoks badass/gone mad Transmetal 1 or 2 body.

The Agenda's cliffhanger ending was the greatest case of squandered potential in Transformers history. Beast Wars only ever had vague ties to the Sunbow Cartoon and nothing else. Which is the point of a revival show.

Apparently they did have plans for Dinobot and Tigerhawk in BM. Considering how that turned out, it was better they didn't make it into the show...

To be honest, stick a tail on him, and Scorponok could easily have been Rampage in Season Two. Even the Bad Spark episode itself could have still applied, with some minor tweaks. Throw out the 'Protoform X' stuff, switch the setting to the Darksyde during a blackout caused by an Energon storm and a "Mad" Scorponok pulling himself out of the Magma.

Yep 100% agree.

Again a big shame sounds like poor Airazor got a trash deal again.

I love that idea becoming the mindless brute/weapon. OR the episode where they created Dinobot2 again didn't really like that especially as Dinobot1 last episode was so good and emotional.

I've said before, they should have made Dinobot II into Grimlock instead. It would have been a nice nod to the original Dinobot toy redeco. He also could have been voiced by Gregg Berger too, for an added hit of homage/nostalgia.

As for Airazor, I might have felt sorry for him/her, if there was any real personality to be invested in. It was strange how few pure Bird-Bots exist in the Beast Wars line though.

Mmm Grimlock not my angle but I don't dislike it :-)

Alas poor Airazor was the Maximal Scorponok :-( by introducing Airazor in hindsight felt like that was a reason to get rid of Tigatron..i loved Tigatron such a different character.

Tigatron had a lot of interesting concepts and ideas to him... Which would have worked better as Polar Claw or Wolfang. Especially during Season One, I think they could have swapped out the one note Cheetor for him.

I think the lack of bird bots was probably engineering, in that there's only so many ways to transform them. Nothing a revival line couldn't fix with new design tricks ;)

Yet they were the equivalent to "Jets". The Predacons had Terrorsaur and a handful of flying bugs. The pre-Transmetal Maximals had Airazor, a completely redundant Primal and Silverbolt, part of a Combiner Team.

I liked that it gave Megatron the aerial advantage like in the original show.

I wonder what the show would've been like with Insecticon as a part of the cast!?!

I really do like the Protoform X stuff though. That rivalry with Depthcharge was like Joker vs Batman but done in their own way. Scorponok was never a character that had much going for him, so I didn't mind his demise. Terrorsaur had much more potential.
