Top 5 Transformers Toys With Best Weapon Storage

Motto: "'till All Are One"
Every two weeks, Seibertron.com brings you a Top 5 list related to all things Transformers written by me, your fellow editor. These are my opinions (just like movie or game reviews hosted by sites are still just the opinion of one person) so what matters most is what you guys think of the topic or list, and I hope to see your own lists or comments on omissions and ranking. Let's have fun! All previous lists can be found here.

Top 5 Transformers with best weapon storage

The title is pretty self explanatory. Sadly, as you might guess, there are no G1s on this list.

5. Transformers Generations Arcee

It's a good thing I got the Takara version simply because its instructions showed how to store the weapons in alt mode. You had to guess for the Hasbro version, since they didn't say. And that's a pity since the weapons storage is really smart. Arcee comes with several weapons for a deluxe figure, including two guns of different shapes and sizes. They can both be stored at specific spots under the car mode but the best part of this is that the smaller gun also helps you tab the hands so that everything is solid under there.

4. Transformers Cybertron Vector Prime

Vector Prime is a Transformer toy that just keeps giving and giving. Never mind him having an intricate design and excellent paint, and being a great toy all around, he also has really awesome weapon storage. His minicon is also a spaceship/blaster and there is a perfectly shaped indentation on his vehicle mode to store him. The best part though is the sword. It is big and can be stored on the side of the spaceship. The little detail that just brings it over the top is how his sword has a nice artisinal hilt to drive home the ancient theme and it sticks out of the side of the ship when the sword is lokcked in. For this not to look out of place, there is a molded in hilt detail sticking out on the other side of the ship, completing the uniform look and totally hiding the sword since that extra hilt detail now becomes a detail of the ship.

3. Transformers Generations Scourge

Scourge is known for his big wings and Hasbro gave them a lot more functionality with this toy, by having them open up to store his two weapons. I also like how you have to transform the weapons a bit to have them fit properly within his wings. It looks even cooler on the translucent versions of this mold where you can see the guns there as if he is passing through an airport scanner.

2. Transformers Beast Wars Rhinox

I had this toy as a kid and the weapon storage was the best part of Rhinox. I loved how it makes you become a mini MacGyver taking random bits from here and there and then putting them together to give him a chaingun of doom. It was even more fun than actually transforming the figure. Plus his tail became a weapon as well.

1. Transformers Beast Wars Optimus Primal (Beast Convoy)

This monkey the Boss when it comes to weapon storage, bar none. He's got two swords stored in his back, heightwise, and two springloaded shoulder cannons that spring out from his backside. These cannons have missiles, which are also stored inside the figure's back behind his head. But that's not all, he has more weapons up his sleeves, literally. One of his forearms has a springloaded double barreled blaster and his other forearm stores a mace shaped like a skull! This Maximal leader is a one man army all on his own and if he gave in to his Gorilla Warefare side we all know the Predacons would have been history and the beast Wars would have been over quite early on.

Honourable Mentions: Lots of Beast Wars; Dinobot, cheetor, all do it very well but it's nothing compared to Rhinox and Optimus Primal

I enjoy CW Brawl's storage -- in that they included an extra peg to make his HFG mimic his old G1 toy's twinturret.

It's nowhere near this list, but it's the only weapon storage I could think of off the top of my head and it's always a neat little reference I enjoyed. Especially compared to most other CW Deluxes' methods of 'storing' their HFG.

Nice list, I would add MP-10 for his gun storage.

Weapon: Anti-Thermal Cannon
Is this about just storing the weapons rather than integrating them as part of the alt-mode?

I'll go with a few ones when the weapons are completely hidden away.

I liked how 2007 Concept Camaro Bumblebee has a nice chunky gun (which opened up into a stabby blade weapon) and could hide completely within the back of the vehicle.

Sidearms Sideswipe is a huge fave of mine because not only does the toy look fantastic and have a fun transformation but the guns hide nicely away in alt-mode but can also still be revealed as weaponry for the car if required.

RotF Bludgeon. The long sword becomes the tank turret and that's cool but needed for the alt-mode but the small sword stores away inside the turret in a lovely bit of engineering that probably didn't even need to be that a complex (but simple to use) mechanism but I love that it does. Also the fact both swords can be positioned on his left hip in robot mode when not placed in his hands, which is true to his samurai influence is a lovely extra. I always like when weapons can be sensibly put away on the robot mode when not in combat.

AoE Drift stores his weapons away nicely too. I think a fair few movie ones did well that didn't come with Mechtech or similarly overly large gimmicky weaponry.

And not movie but RTS Jazz hid his weapons well, his gun folds up and away and his speakers slot back in behind the doors. Big improvement on the G1 figure there. Same with RTS Tracks.

Probably not related but something I loved seeing regarding weapons in alt-modes was automatically-filling weapon ports. Like on Dark of the Moon Deluxe Bumblebee you can insert a 5mm post weapon into his roof like a lot of TF toys but when you take it out, the gap is filled in all by itself leaving just a faint circular seam much more preferable to a gaping obvious hole. I wish more TF toys did that.

(not sure how I knew Arcee's weapons stored away if it didn't say it on instructions... Actually mine was 2nd hand and I not sure I even haaad the instructions. The swords don't really hide at all though and I often don't even bother using them as I don't like how they look anyways. Although on my larger KO one I often tab them into her arms in robot mode like some kinda armour thing. I dunno. But yeah no good place in car mode for them).

I'm going to go with Alternator's Hound. While most of the Alternator toys had weapon storage, I thought it was pretty cool how it went in his spare tire, and ended up close to his hand in robot mode.

Agreed with the Arcee mold! Although at least with my experience with it (nightbird shadow) the guns do peg in rather tight, so it's a bit of a struggle to get out.
Off the top of my head, from my collection, I can also think of:
-TLK Berserker (the spike weapon things peg underneath the vechicle)
-Animated Lockdown (the hook weapon becomes the front of the car)
-T30 Armada Starscream (sword folds in half, pegs underneath wings)
Collects Bayformers Toys and whatever else I think that looks cool regardless of line
Too poor for 3P or MP lines :D

Oh, before I forget; TR Rewind's gun/tank turret becoming a stylus in tablet mode is downright genius.

I don't have it, but the same amount of genius applies to G1 Soundwave's weapons becoming batteries.

Yeah, that's pretty much the gold standard for weapon integration/storage. I disagree with this Arcee because the swords are still not hidden, they're "stored" in plain sight and it takes away from the aesthetic of the alt mode. You know which Arcee did it much better? TFA Arcee.

My list:

5. Armada Cyclonus
4. RoTF Megatron (voyager or leader)
3. Armada Jetfire
2. WfC Megatron
1. Tie: G1 Megatron and TFA Arcee/Dragstrip

Could we put most of the Armada figures on this list, especially if the Mini-cons are considered weapons? I put Jetfire on there specifically because both his gun and his Mini-con integrate into the shuttle mode perfectly. And now that I think about it, most Megatrons can go on the list, because more often than not, Megatron' cannon becomes his weapon in his alt mode as well (most often a tank barrel). Honorable mention to Galaxy Force Megatron/Galvatron for his gatling gun becoming a wheel.

I disagree heavily with this list except for Primal, he stores his weapons with style.

Here's my top 5 of best stored weaponry.

5. Energon Red Alert.
Granted its part of his gimmick, but while not in use in either mode, it stored away, unobtrusively, and seamlessly blends in with his alt mode.

Image
Image

4. R.I.D 2001 X-Brawn. Again, seamless integration to vehicle mode, and nice and cromey weaponry in robot mode.

Image
Image

3. Optimus Primal, as I said I agree with this pick, just not so high up.

2. Movie Longarm. Its hidden and actually transforms into part of the vehicle mode and makes for a fairly impressive gun in robot mode. Yes it technically not removable in Robot mode, but a small screw is the only thing between it and removal, and transformation is not affected in any way.

Image

1. Recon Ironhide. There blatantly there in vehicle mode, but they are meant to be there. He also has a few actually hidden, like his bumper crossbow. Much like Age of Extinction hound, the guns are stored yet serve a purpose in vehicle mode.

Also since G1 Megatron was brought up, and Willy J said he didn't think any G1 figure would make the list, how about G1 Prime? To store his gun, all we have to do is put it in the trailer.

Ooh, I just thought of a few more: RoTF leaders Optimus Prime (along with the Buster and HFTD versions) and Jetfire, as well as voyager RoTF Prime.

There seems to be quite a few different opinions on what is sensible and logical weapon storage. :P

Are we counting alt-mode integration as storage? I mean for example, I love how the Buster Prime and later versions take the RotF Prime fuel tanks and turn them into a gun but if you lose the gun you lose a noticable part of the alt-mode too.

Im suprised nobody mentioned thrilling 30s waspinator where the gun forms the stinger in his butt.

Botcon 2009 Kup (cybertron red alert mold I think) also has great weapon storage in his legs.

ROTF Skystalker has some pretty cool axes that are part of the wing.

I grew up with G1 so I really dont care much about parts storage. But I can appreciate it if its done right. If its going to be annoying peg holes to peg swords on the side of a car, I would rather have nothing at all and throw them in my parts box.

It's because I grew up with G1 that I love the attempts at parts storage on more recent figures cos I remember how bloody annoying it was to have loose parts in one or more modes. Like Ultra Magnus's gun, fists (both small and large pairs), chest plate and head. At least with Powermaster Prime I could hide that big robot head in the back of the trailer legs (though still wish it had been integrated into the smaller robot/cab).
:P

(also to make things worse my Ultra Magnus had too left large robot fists and no right ones)

It depends on what you like, I guess. For me personally I prefer it when the weapon's integrated in some way -- hiding it away or just making it a general gun of the alt-mode is cool and all, but it's really cool when they can do something clever with it. Like, as noted above, Rewind's stylus or Soundwave's batteries. Those sort of things are really cool touches to me.

Yeah I guess it's a personal thing because those examples make no sense to me from a logical viewpoint (not even sure how a tablet and tank can even be the alt-modes of the same robot realistically)

I think one of the ones that bugged me like crazy during G1 was Springer's rotor blades. Yes it's cool it could become his sword... but if he's fighting in battle and his sword is broken or knocked from his hands he's lost his flying alt-mode (though not sure why helicopters are even a thing on cybertron as his form would appear to be since it doesn't look like any earth chopper).

I'm doing it again aren't I?
Overthinking things and being annoying. I caught myself wondering why Soundwave would disguise his weapons as batteries cos if in tape player form undercover as some human's deck that human might decide he wants batteries for something and take them out of Soundwave thus disarming him completely and then I got too bothered by how much I haaaate that darn mass shifting stuff in the first place cos it never made much sense (why couldn't a small robot like Bumblebee get some mass shifting so he could become bigger than any decepciton but then they could get bigger and then everyone gets bigger and argh).

I shush now and leave you all to it. Sorry. :D

Thanks for letting us know. I fixed the error in the post that was causing this. It was a simple apostrophe that was mis-typed as a left bracket in the word "figure's back", which the browser interpreted as an opening strikethru tag.

I dont think arcees storage is that great you just flip her upside down and slap the weapons in, they're not hidden or integrated at all. Plus the swords just hang off the car, all weapons for the figure should be taken into account for this list just not one or two. Also think beast wars should be mentioned in general because most of the toys (especially the early ones) had really great weapon storage/integration. Last but not least, wheres animated prowl? First figures i thought of when i read the title were original cheetor, BW insecticon & animated prowl.

Mmmm yes. That Megatron is a very impressive specimen.

Someone mentioned MP-5 and G1 Megatron? How? The both come with things that DON'T integrate into that gun mode.

Besides commenting on other comments, I'm wracking my brain and can't come up with anything of my own to add. I agree though, OG Primal is probably the king :APPLAUSE:

Hold the phone! I got something!

When I saw the #1, I thought "well there's an MP so!" but I quickly realized that the MP actually didn't stand up to the original in that regard. The mace doesn't store, and I don't think his swords store (in gorilla mode).

Who does though? MP Cheetor. Not only do his weapons store with the same spirit of the original, but he keeps that incredible cheetah silhouette to boot.
