What about the CnC Generals rank symbols, they'd fit neatly into this perpose.

For those who dont know, the ranks are:

What about something like these?

Maybe with the bottom block under the rank completely used for the tourney mark? Instead of the shield shape.

This thread is going well; the above could be easily paired with a faction symbol or placed on a background for other context (if, for instance, multiple prizes are awarded per tournament).

Good idea to start this conversation fuzz-butt.

I was originally using the ribbons with the maximal tournaments as they were kept small and didn't interfere with the signature significantly. I was using them not so much as a reward but as a way for people to wear them to show how they'd done, more like a badge of honor.

a tournament logo? like the current "attack/defend 'bot city."
Just a silhouette of some buildings and the rank above that on a transparent or gray background.
make a "participant", position 1/2/3 and MVP logo.

making them is done within an hour. hosting could be done on Seibertron if the were small enough and they could be easily attached to signatures without causing much strain.

rank symbols like above and color could just be in red/purple/green/yellow to distinguish the faction.

edit: exactly what I'm thinking mogwai.

same would go for scalp hunts.

I was using the chevrons as both a gold, silver, bronze and 1st, 2nd, 3rd place finisher. I don't think that a participant one would be needed as it would cause the sig to fill up rapidly. I would be willing to do a MVP one if the tournament were with teams as a solo tournament would get a placement badge already.

The wouldn't need to be hosted on Seibs as they could be integrated into the signature. If anyone didn't know how to, or didn't have the ability to do so I could help with that.

I was thinking about using that idea or just making the background the color of the badge winners faction.

I like the idea but the size would fill a bit of the sig don't you think?

I know about the implementing it in a current sig (example, Raphael Prime) but people change sigs and if it were small icons below a signature (merit badges) people would be able to click the picture/hyperlink and see the results in a thread. that saves a lot of time explaining what the picture is for all the time.

If you're talking adding it beneath a larger pic in a person's sig, that would violate the whole "one image per sig" rule, regardless of how tiny it is.

Though it would be the best way to go about things.

I know it's violating. But the draconian signature rules need their own Obama. It's time for a change!

it's either that, or have the sig hyperlink to an "achievements" thread (with no crap posting) that would list the achievements per user.

I wonder if it would be possible to use the empty space under the posting player's information on the left side for something of this nature.

**Edit** or even provide a second area underneath the signature area for this purpose.

Alternatively, since the ribbons are small, the ribbon can be placed overtop the signature. This can be accomplished through a variety of HTML tricks - or just by hosting another sig version with the ribbon overlay.

I think the best example is the Apolyton.net message board where tourney ribbons are placed under the user info on the left. it IS a mod affair however.

per example: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthread.p ... adid=26248

linking to user groups/ribbons.

Since we're not running with avatars anymore, this would be a viable replacement and an incentive to get forum goers to play hmw to get their "personality" back ;)

That example is what I was thinking but just below the poster's information.

I had an idea like this for the tournaments I'll run. I was thinking metals and the more you collect the higher your rank. Similar to the military. I just havent have had the time to make anything since Electron won.

personally, i don't mind placing any and all badges on my sig, even if i happen to change it in the future, doesn't take me long at all to do it. And you can always resize the image yourself to make it fit the sig better.

I need to double check but there may be a way around this, although Im not sure how workable it is currently;

You are allowed extra images if they are hosted here, (remember the 'save the tiefighter/dragon/etc. sigs from a while back?) so if the medal .gifs can be hosted in a section of the alts database they could be added to sig's without interfering with the artwork.

Just an option for the future, but Im loving the rest of the ideas here.

can't you use the attach feature to attach a picture to a post? then it's hosted here right?

I just tried and I don't think the file upload is working.

But could someone care to explain the benefits of the images being hosted on the Seibertron.com server as opposed to say, Photobucket?

As a viewer, i'm going to use the same bandwidth to download all the images regardless of what site they're on.

And we always hear about server strain and the cost of bandwidth, so to me, it would be a more viable and beneficial option for the user to upload to their own host and save the hard drive space and bandwidth (as miniscule one image may be it would add up) of Seibertron.com?

Or am I just missing the real reason behind it all?
