Toy Collection for Sale

Hi,

I'm barely registered today; but I've been a fan of Seibertron for years and this is the website that where I look for Transformers related news.

I have a collection of approximately 600 Transformers and have made the painful decision to sell most of it. I thought about posting the toys for sale on E-bay; however it would be time consuming. I currently hold 2 jobs and my time is limited; therefore if anyone has suggestions or is close to my perimeter I'll be willing to personally show my collection.

I also contacted 2 of the biggest online retailers. However, what they offered was appaling.

I live in El Paso, TX. If anyone is interested let me know. I need the money for a Graduate School Program that I'm going to start next year. I have pretty much toys from every series.

Sincerely,

Enigmatron915

This is the wrong place for this my friend. :) You'll probably get better responses in the Carbomya- B/S/T forum.

Also, do yourself a favor and just write up a list of everything you have in your post so you don't have twenty people asking you the same "What all have you got from X character, or stuff from series Y?" questions.

Welcome to the site!

I get this a lot, and people don't understand why retailers offer what they do. The simple answer is thus: they're not collectors - they sell to collectors and thus walk the fine line of offering enough money that it will seem like a good deal to those who are willing to dump their figs without worry about making money back and then turning that figure around for profit, I suspect in the 33%-50% margin. Judging by the activity on BBTS's Vintage page, it works fairly well fairly often. These are businesses and they have to make a profit.

However if you want to make more money by selling to collectors, you're going to have to put in the effort to do so. I'd suggest breaking the figures into lots and try selling them like that. You can post pictures and a list with your details here.

Good luck to you!

I second everything that Mkali said. If you want more money, you have to do the work for it. No one, including collectors, is going to want all of your collection for what you think it's worth. I wouldn't expect to get more than 25% of the estimated market value from retailers (that's based on what I've heard from retailers that resell music gear, for example) and maybe 50 to 75% from a collector who buys all of it at once, depending on how much stuff in there they actually care about. But the only way you're going to get full value is to sell every piece individually, and that mean spending a lot of time on it.
