We have a couple of Transformers 4 casting calls to pass along to those of you in the Austin, TX and Detroit, MI areas.

Beth Sepko Casting & Third Coast Extras is looking for the following in the Austin, TX area to film in June:

Third Coast Extras is seeking the following for the latest TRANSFORMERS sequel directed by Michael Bay shooting in Austin, TX in June 2013. Read carefully below and pass this along to anyone you think might fit descriptions:

* "Mom"- Female Caucasian or Hispanic: Age 30s-50s (must have plus sized figure, expressive comedic face, small town Texas look )

*"Dad"- Male Caucasian or Hispanic: Age 30s-50s (must have plus sized figure, expressive comedic face, small town Texas look)

Submissions from Extras with very strong unique "character" faces that express a larger than lifeTEXAS type personality

Think people that look like Ranchers, oil men and women, realtor types that sell Dallas mansions, small town salt of the earth types, and strong southern-looking men & women- with faces that have a real local Texas flavor to their look and uniqueness!

We need males & females of ethnicities ages 35-65 to submit for this.

CBS Detroit is reporting that casting directors will also be looking for extras for filming the the area from June to August.

Casting directors for the movie will be looking to hire actors as paid extras from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1 at the Somerset Inn in Troy. The part requires actors to be available for filming from June through August.

Directors will be looking for males and females at least 18-year-old who can play the part of a clean-cut business person, military or FBI agent. They’ll also be casting Asian families of all ages.

Transformers is rarely ever serious. It's a movie to sell toys. Get over it.

I was thinking the same thing...

Plus, the rest of the want ad comes off as very racist/prejudiced, don't you think? What the hell is a "real Texan"? How does one LOOK Southern?

I can't see this coming out in any way but insultingly "comedic".

Look, if the jokes were fresh and relevant, it'd be one thing... but Michael Bay is to humor as radiation treatment is to hair growth.

I'll save judgement for until after watching the movies, but honestly, that doesn't sound good.

"Expressive comedic face" makes me think of Ken Jeong, Leo and Simmons, which IMO is NOT a good thing.

The only characters in the live action movies that I actually thought WERE funny, were Wheelie, Epps and the fat guy with the Stinger missile in DOTM.

But that's NOT to say that the TF movies should be uber-serious. I appreciate humor as much as the next guy, but at least keep it mature and intelligent. RDJ's snarky portrayal of Tony Stark in Iron Man was humorous, and The Seeker's constant banter in WFC was funny. Leo and Sam's mom in the movies were not.

Oops, forgot my general disclaimer: All ideas and statements represented here are the personal opinions of a single TF fan (yours truly), and does not represent the views of the fandom in general. :D

Well, to be fair, the Leo character was dragged down by the actor's piss-poor acting ability. Objectively speaking, the character would have been pretty funny in the hands of a more experienced and better actor.

Now I'm no stranger to crass and frankly stupid humor (South Park, The Family Guy and the Cleveland Show are some of my favorites), but there's just something about the TF movie actors that drive me up the wall. Most probably the same reason I hate Jim Carrey--obnoxious overacting.

I found Leo pointless, but I loved Simmons. It's a pity he's not returning.
And still, with all the (lame) humor in the previous movies you can't quite say they weren't serious.
A battle-royale in Mission City, death of Optimus in the forest, the sinking of the Aircraft carrier, whole 7,000 casualties of the d'con invasion, battle of Egypt with Sam's death, death of Ironhide, attempted assassination of the autobots by Starscream, siege of Chicago, killing of humans, execution of Que and all that. No humor in these parts.

My point is: even if there is some comedic or lame-comedic action, then it won't take the seriousness off from the whole movie if there's gonna be some seriously serious action.

Exactly. That's why I hate when people say the TF movies need to be darker and more serious. They are dark and serious when they need to be. But people get so distracted by the few stupid parts that are in the movie, instead of looking at them as whole movies. They're all near 3 hour movies. A couple of minutes of stupidity is hardly enough to warrant the whole movie stupid.

DISCLAIMER: I know you weren't referring to me in this post, but I'll just add my two cents' worth, anyways.

Good point. I've been reading a similar discussion at tfw2005, actually.

Every movie, no matter how dark and serious, needs some humor to break up the tension created by the action. Even Nolan's Batman movies had bits of humor (albeit mild and subtle) throughout each story. As did Iron Man. As did The Avengers.

If you ask me, the NEST team provided the kind of humor that is at least on par with the above mentioned movies. Incidentally, these are also the same kind of action hero characters Bay excels at bringing to life. Mostly, it's the civilian characters that fall flat when it comes to characterization and comedy. IMO, Bay might be out of his element when it comes to non-military characters.

But I digress.

This is just my personal opinion, but I think those who wanted a more serious and dark TF movie were hoping that a no-nonsense TF movie would get rid of the stupid humor. I mean, you wouldn't expect a serious movie like Nolan's Batman Begins to have Bruce Wayne fart inside the Tumbler during the car chase scene and make Rachel gag...or vice versa. Things like these are usually reserved for spoof movies.

TL;DR, maybe those who wanted the TF movies to be more serious and dark were hoping at it would get rid of the stupid humor in the process.

That's what I've been thinking from the beginning. The only "civilian" that I felt was necessary was Sam, and ONLY in ROTF. He had absolutely nothing to do in the first movie or DOTM. The TFs could have defeated the Decepticons without him in both those movies.

Agreed. I probably sound like a broken record, but this is mostly Spielberg's fault. Him and his insistence in turning the first movie into some urban ET reboot with the whole "boy and his alien robot car" thing.

Thankfully, we'll be seeing an end to that in TF4, and hopefully less "urban/civilian" characters from now on.
