I personally don't mind the chrome; I think the main complaint has to do with it appearing like a simplified shell-former or the robot body not utilizing any of the cab parts in bot mode.

That's more like the CGI design issue. They shouldn't design that way so toy designers have no idea where to put them but the back.

The chrome is one of the few things (along with the alt mode) that I actually like about this figure. It's the rest that sucks. It's not even a shell-former. It's a robot wearing a truck.

I must have missed pictures of the back of the toy.

I don't care how much Collectors don't like the fact that Hasbro are "oversimplifying" these Movie toys. I hope they sell Millions of these toys so Hasbro can bring us awesome high quality generations toys like what the first Movie did for the Animated toys.

I'd be fine if it were a Voyager or a Deluxe... But a flipping Leader Size shellformer that looks like a brick that pooped the Terminator from Terminator 2? Unacceptable. It's just horrendous!

That New Optimus is Huge. I'm surprised by his size. Them other previous pics of him had him looking like a deluxe.
And the in-hand pics make him look much much better than before. Maybe there is something to look foward to this AOE transformers toy line. 8)

Hmm, the arm proportioning isn't as bad in these in-hand pictures.

In the end, it looks much nicer than I expected, but more as a generic robot knight, not as a transforming Optimus Prime; Leader ROTF will always be my favorite for balance between a playable figure and a transformer that looks great both as a 'bot and vehicle.

I second that, don't know where all the hate is coming from.

You want complicated TF's, go buy ROTF Leader Prime, or HFTD Battle Blades Prime.

You want more G1 likeness, go buy Masterpiece or Generations.

I for one welcome simplified transformations and hold back on the shelf-former claim untill I have seen a good review or have the toy myself.

This looks pretty good actually. It looks much closer to the design we've been shown than TF 07 LC Prime did, and everyone loved that toy, some even claimed it was the closest to a Masterpiece Movie Prime we would get.
So for the first Leader Class retail quality figure it's not bad. But apparently this is aimed at us collectors, and this is where the figure is hurt. Because it's lacking in the very things we collectors crave.
If this had a better pain job and wouldn't feature as much random chrome, I would say it would look pretty incredible.

putting them side by side was probably the worst thing anyone could've done, its just show how crappy this prime is. And just remember the main release is going to be worse cause there wont be any chrome just cheap looking plastic. And for all of you saying "i hope these sell well cause then we'll get better gerenations figures" you obviously dont have a clue how hasbro works, you really think they are going to pass the wealth onto us? When has hasbro ever given us something for nothing? Generations were the first ones to jump to $15 then when the plastic quality & size dropped the price stayed the same. If these sell well then they are going to think "oh this is what everyone wants" & keep making figures like this then its just going to get worse. All you need to do is look at the last 3 main lines of figures to see this trend already happening. The trick is for these not to sell so hasbro has to rethink things again.

You like it, and that's awesome. Some of us don't, and that's awesome too. The vast majority of the objections to this stem from the fact that it appears to be a massive step backward in Leader-class figures (generally the largest and most expensive) in the Transformation department, which is arguably just as important as any visual aspects.

noctorro wrote:You want complicated TF's, go buy ROTF Leader Prime, or HFTD Battle Blades Prime.

Go price those out on eBay right now (the only place most would ever be able to find them) and tell me if that's a reasonable statement to make on this topic.

noctorro wrote:You want more G1 likeness, go buy Masterpiece or Generations.

We do. Masterpiece and Generations have been releasing fantastic figures of great quality, transformation, and screen-accuracy lately. Why can't movie lines deliver the same?

Why can't we expect the same balance of quality, accurate appearances, and transformation fun from movie figures that we've been getting from other lines? It need not be one-or-the-other.

Very true Jones.

But to be honest, ROTF figures were out of balance as well.

We don't have to go back to level Cybertron/Galaxy Force figures.
I think the current Generations line and FOC line are a good mix between transformation complexity and overall design.

We've only seen like two primes. This being the better one, the other is also not for me.

I'm especially curious about the new faces, they look more human like in the G1 cartoon. No more bug faces I think.

No argument there. 500-step transformations aren't going to endear these toys to the parents that will be shelling out cash for them.

noctorro wrote:I think the current Generations line and FOC line are a good mix between transformation complexity and overall design.

Nailed it. It seems like the Generations team and the AoE line are working in completely isolated silos. They hit homeruns with figures like Voyager Springer and Deluxe Orion Pax with vehicle modes that look great, robot modes with almost no kibble at all, and really fun transformations. Much like you, I will reserve my final judgement until in-hand video reviews exist, but right now I am more than skeptical that this figure in particular will turn out to be worth getting.

noctorro wrote:I'm especially curious about the new faces, they look more human like in the G1 cartoon. No more bug faces I think.

Agreed. This is something they should have done from movie #1. Prime had a great face from the start, but most of the others were seriously lacking any kind of homage to the beloved characters of the franchise.
