Probably fell short because of the terribad reaction to RotF. I've got a friend who refuses to see DotM simply because he thought RotF sucked.

I'm nineteen and G1 is my favorite continuity. The original cartoon kicked so much ass. I'm a pretty big fan of the live action movies, but the '86 movie is still my favorite. Never could memorize the names of everyone in those G1 combiner teams, though.

The reports indicate that DOTM is doing records for its release weekend, but is behind ROTF. When was ROTF released? Is there a better time for release than they have picked?
Here in Australia, I would guess the time is about optimum as most states are now on school holidays.
I'm keen to see any future development of the brand, but I think there is still lots of story to tell in this 'original Bay-verse' story that could draw from the rich history already established. Dino- bots, Target/power/head masters, Unicron, Galvatron, Less goofy combiner teams. They could find a crashed ship stuck in a volcano!, Beast wars.

In addition to becoming the top weekend earner of 2011 and setting a new Independence Day opening record, Transformers Dark of the Moon is doing extremely well internationally. According to The Hollywood Reporter the film raked in $217 million through Sunday, making it Paramount's best international launch ever. The film also set all time opening box office records in seven international markets: Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Peru. This also make Transformers Dark of the Moon the number three global opening of all time.

While Transformers Dark of the Moon is still slightly (6%) behind Transformers Revenge of the Fallen's domestic opening it has exceeded the second film's international opening by 55%.

Transformers Dark of the Moon has earned nearly $400 million in it's global six-day debut.

THIS.

THIS x2. The acting in this movie was way better than the first 2. You see what happens when you exterminate the one blight? Everything becomes better.

THIS x3
I asked a lot of people at my school why they would not see it and its because of Fox. to me this movie had the perfect balance of humans and TFs. better than the first and ROTF combined.

People at school said "did you know Megan Fox is out, I'm not watching DOTM because of that crap". PPFFT. People at school even said, "the old transformers is gay, new one is better 'cause of it's live-action". BULLCRAP! I can't force them change their minds, but hey, it's personal preference.

Megan Fox is indeed Foxy, but once I saw who had replaced her, I didn't miss her. Rosey handled herself very well, I think. I like DOTM better than ROTF, but all three movies were good, to me. It's great to see this movie rule the box office, but it really didn't have any real competition :BOT: .

Transformers: Dark of the Moon continues to break records and drain wallets. Financial analysis site The Motley Fool is reporting that Michael Bay's third live action movie, and the first filmed specifically for IMAX 3D has made a massive impact in that niche.

The Motley Fool wrote:IMAX showings generated $23.1 million in global ticket sales over the holiday weekend, ringing up $14 million domestically through 146 screens and an additional $9.1 million on 105 international locations.

This comes just over a week after the film's record breaking holiday launch and impressive global earnings.

It was bound to happen, but Transformers Dark of the Moon was usurped as king of the box office by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2. If nothing else our beloved Transformers were taken down by a worthy adversary, considering the latest and final installment in the Potter franchise earned $168.55 million and smashed several box office records including highest-grossing opening weekend ever.

But enough about the wizard, we've got our own impressive numbers to talk about! Transformers Dark of the Moon raked in another $21.5 million over the weekend, and became the first film of 2011 to cross the $300 million mark. After only 19 days Transformers Dark of the Moon has earned $302.8 million domestically and $460 million in foreign markets for a total of $762.8 million.

Domestic: $302,800,000 39.7%
+ Foreign: $460,000,000 60.3%
= Worldwide: $762,800,000

No, I'm fairly certain they had always intended on turning all the books into movies, and the Deathly Hallows was the last book, though they did divide it into two films.

They're good films, and I would have probably went to watch this weekend along with everyone else had I not missed a couple of the previous Potter films. I borrowed all of them on blu-ray from my in-laws to watch over the week so I can see it this weekend.

Just as I suspected. There is no justice in the world. I said that if Harry Potter makes anywhere near as close as much money that DOTM made; there's no justice in the world. I was right. We roam the earth like it's ours and never pay for our crimes, not in the least.

The only G1 problem I have is my used G1 Prime's hands being so loose that they fall out of the sockets. Other than that, I'm happy with the cartoons, movies, comics, whatever. It isn't a "versus" thing for me. The movie is going to crack a billion. I'm with all of it.

Paramount Pictures' Transformers: Dark of the Moon Posts IMAX Launch Record in China for a U.S. Movie

July 25, 2011 8:16 PM ET

LOS ANGELES, July 25, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) (TSX:IMX), and Paramount Pictures announced today that Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the highly anticipated third film in the blockbuster Transformers franchise, surged to an IMAX opening launch record for a U.S. movie in The People's Republic of China, garnering approximately $3.7 million on 31 screens over the four-day opening, for a per-screen average of $120,000. This represents IMAX's widest release in China to date, and surpasses the previous IMAX opening weekend record of $97,400 per screen for Avatar.

Since its launch on June 29, Transformers: Dark of the Moon has grossed $45.5 million globally in IMAX® theatres, surpassing the $44 million of gross box office generated by Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen:The IMAX Experience. The film will open in Japan this coming weekend. Globally, the film has generated total box office of $882 million to date.

"We're extremely pleased with such record results for an IMAX DMR film in China," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "Chinese audiences are clearly seeking out The IMAX Experience® through U.S. blockbusters and numbers like these illustrate why China presents an exciting – and growing – opportunity for IMAX. By year-end, we anticipate having 85 theatres operating in Greater China, more than double the 40 theatres we had open at the end of 2010."

"These fantastic box office results are a testament to all of our great partners in China," said Greg Foster, IMAX Chairman and President of Filmed Entertainment. "In addition, Michael Bay and Paramount Pictures have delivered a fan favorite and moviegoers around the world continue to come out in force to see this latest installment of the Transformers franchise in IMAX."

Transformers: Dark of the Moon: An IMAX 3D Experience has been digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology for presentation in IMAX 3D. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique immersive environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
