Thanks to DirectTV we can report the Hub will be adding the Transformers Generation 2 cartoon to their line-up. Transformers Generation 2 was a repackaging of the original cartoon series featuring a new CGI intro sequence and "Cybernet Space Cube" used in scene transitions.

"Hey guys! Remember that idea we had that nobody liked? Let's remind everyone about that!"

I suppose this is Hasbro's way of making sure people stop watching G1 episodes, because I doubt that they're going to air the unaltered G1 episodes AND this.

My feeling towards this:

[KUMA-NIN is seen holding on for dear life, as his remote control hand is severed. In great pain, he squeezes his forearm under his left armpit and moves back along the gantry to its extreme end. Hasbro follows. The wind subsides. KUMA-NIN holds on. There is nowhere else to go.]

HASBRO: There is no escape. Don't make me force this onto you. You do not yet
realize the importance of this. You have only begun to rediscover your fandom.
Watch this and it will complete your fandom. With our combined knowledge, we can end this destructive conflict and bring order to the community.

"I'll never join you!"

HASBRO: If you only knew the power of Generation 2. Hydra never told you what happened to Optimus Prime.

KUMA-NIN: He told me enough! He told me you killed him.

HASBRO: No. I am Optimus Prime.

[Shocked, KUMA-NIN looks at Hasbro in utter disbelief.]

KUMA-NIN: No. No. That's not true! That's impossible!

HASBRO: Search your feelings. You know it to be true.

KUMA-NIN: No! No! No!

HASBRO: KUMA-NIN. You can enjoy Generation 2. Even Ultra Magnus has foreseen this. It is your destiny. Join us, and we can enjoy this together. Come with me. It's the only way.

[Hasbro puts away his Star Saber sword and holds his hand out to KUMA-NIN. A calm comes over KUMA-NIN, and he makes a decision. In the next instant he steps off the gantry platform into space. Hasbro looks over the platform and sees him falling far below. The wind begins to blow and the torrent finally forces him back, away from the edge. The wind soon turns into a Sonic Rainboom, and KUMA-NIN is saved by Rainbow Dash and is then taken to Takara Tomy Land just to be safe.]

In other words: :BOOM: <( I'd just as soon kiss a Wookiee. )

Jeez. I tought it would be an anime with Lazer Prime battling with Tank Megatron with everyone being in fabulous colors.

Instead, we get heavily edited G1 episode with a vomit-inducting prehistoric CG intro...

Sigh...

Thanks. I actually could have gone with Space Balls. But I felt like that reflects how some feel about me when I respond to what some members say, and others might not get the humor. Namely... Poster #1: "KUMA-NIN is responding to something Sabrblade said?" Poster #2: "Oh sh*t, there goes the topic."

But even then, while expecting Beast Wars, portions of the Unicron Trilogy, just anything else... We get this. And that is the first initial feeling that came to my mind. But you know what? Lets go with some Space Balls.

Fan #1: But, Hasbro, what is this channel? What is that you do on it?

HASBRO: Merchandising.

Fan #2: Merchandising? What's that?

HASBRO: Merchandising. Come. I'll show. Open up this door.

[An employee open a slab in the wall. In it, is a whole bunch of "Transformers: The Merchandise" merchandise.]

HASBRO: Ha, ha, ha, come. Walk this way. Take a look. We put the pictures name on everything. Merchandising. Merchandising. Where the real money from the franchise is made. Transformers: The Merchandise: The t-shirt, Transformers: The Merchandise: The Coloring Book, Transformers: The Merchandise: the Lunch box, Transformers: The Merchandise: The Breakfast Cereal, Transformers: The Merchandise-the Flame Thrower. [turns it on]

HASBRO: The kids love this one. Last, but not least, Transformers: The Merchandise: The Doll. [holds up the doll] Michael Bay. [pulls on the string]

Michael Bay Doll: May the plot be with this sequel.

HASBRO: Adorable.

Maybe they're worried that fans aren't watching the G1 and ARAH reruns at midnight anymore because we've come to take them for granted, and this is just to scare us into watching again to make sure the original cartoon hasn't been replaced.

Or maybe enough kids are just confused enough about promos/bumpers calling it "Transformers Generation One" that there was some demand to see just what "Generation Two" was? If so, that could backfire, as the logic behind the G2 'toon barely made sense back in '93, and I think what they were even going for is incomprehensible now. On a youtube clip of the first third of G2 MTMTE Part 1, I remember seeing the comment: "What...is this? Some sort of DVD menu?"

Or maybe the HUB's been bombarded with requests from Geewunners to "Stop showing those awful G2 episodes!" incorrectly referring to Season 3 and The Rebirth, and this is just to set them straight on what "G2" means. Sorry guys, but only a whopping 3 of those episodes were ever G2; most of what you're unfavorably comparing them to, on the other hand, DID end up being G2. None of those "GeeToo" guys like Pretenders and Powermaster Optimus were actually G2...though some Targetmasters showed up briefly via commercial footage in Spacecube windows in the first episode, probably because they were also in the Season 5 intro...

Yeah, showing Season 5 would seriously make more sense than this, and that's actually a possibility now that the guy who played Tommy Kennedy popped up, though he did so pretty recently, and this move was probably in the legal works before then. If they did, the Movie could at least technically be in regular rotation instead of just occasionally popping up as a "HUB Family Movie". I never saw those eps personally, so I'd actually tune in for that.

Ah, if only the G2 cartoon actually had been new content with some relation to the comics. Then kids could learn what the Hub actually was back in '94...and maybe be interested enough to demand 'Alignment' be canonized. Yeah, it could happen...as soon as that actual official G1 Arcee toy shows up, and the Hub starts airing Japanese G1. sigh

I don't actually mind about G2 being a rerun, or it's "cruddy" CGI, but what I do complain about is that why put it again on TV if it's a repackage of G1, but with annoying transitions and a talkative narrator!? Even my son (who knows ald likes G1 like me) could tell the difference and say, "It's only G1 but with some random 3-D in it! Why can't Takara make it based on their manga or the G2 Marvel Comics?"

Image

Yes Arcee, you not only complain with whatever is going on, but you feel the same way like me. Maybe she should have spent more time with CJ instead!

Ooh! Ooh! And me! However, I must regretfully note that I have been neglecting the channel. Mostly because Granzella has decreed that I must spend every day (up to the 27th) trying to stay in the top 100 if I want to obtain all the clothing items. That, and I have officially seen every episode. Ironically, around 25-26 years after The Rebirth first aired.

However, and I think Sabr and Pryme and others might agree with me on this, the only thing worse than the concept of the "Generation 2" series was The Rebirth. Because the difference is that while Generation 2 was poorly planned (it should have used episodes centered on Optimus Prime and end with the movie), The Rebirth was poorly done overall. So between the two evils, I would choose this one to be such.

So in contrast, I think them skipping Beast Wars and put on Beast Machines would be worse than this.

Love the pic. It is how I have been feeling this entire month.

It is because they do not own any of the Marvel-based content. And up until CarRobots, they never did an original series that was not a follow-up. So when it came to G-2, there was not that big of a market and Hasbro was showing no signs of doing said series as well. Which is a shame as the world does need a million more Convoys and at least one repaint that would become Ultra Magnus. ;)

Encore/Hasbro ReIssues floating around.
Perhaps we'll see some G2 toys. Hopefully. I wouldn't mind some retina blasting toys sitting on my shelf

This story got dislodged from it's place in the news lineup sometime around midnight, at least the way my browser sees it. Is that just me, or was the DirecTV thing confirmed as a typo on their end or something?

And for the record, the G2 cartoon did mean a LOT to me back in the mid '90s: namely that Hasbro wasn't going to let the whole franchise drop dead after the next tiny wave of toys, and that I'd forever be more loyal to the comics I'd been collecting for the past 2 years over Sunbow continuity, as I finally got to see 'Autobot Spike', 'Prime Target' and several almost-as-bad early season 2 eps that I'd thankfully managed to miss back when I was 6, ensuring my memories of the G1 'toon were positive. Yes, I also got to see some good later ones I missed too, like 'Search for Alpha Trion' and 'Ghost in the Machine'; sometimes the order and frequency in/with which each of us saw what were otherwise the same stories shaped our vastly different conceptions of them. I still don't see much point in airing these eps on a network still showing all of the G1 'toon, but for those who do remember them fondly, what the heck? As long as it's cheap. And maybe they'll stop after just half a year like they did with Jem.

I'm guessing the G2 broadcast masters are still intact, being 8-12 years younger than the G1 masters which had supposedly degraded by the time Rhino decided to make box sets? For that matter, as I haven't been watching the HUB's midnight showings that regularly, which cuts are they showing? Rhino's, Shout!'s, or some of the original masters that have endured?

Apparently this was a mistake on DirectTV's end. Seibertron recorded it and it turned just to be a G1 episode. Guess they mislabeled it? Sorry G2 fans.
