I live in a top 20 populated area in the United States, and only saw a couple quite accidentally. For the most part CW box sets were not available in stores in the U.S., only in Canada, and other countries. Here you had to pretty much purchase them online. If you search back through this thread you will see the occasional sighting in a store, but those were probably mostly errors, or "Market 6" findings (TJ Maxx, Ross, Marshalls etc.. and now I guess we can add Burlington to that list as well) .
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Wish List of Modern Combiners: Road Caesar, Monstructor & Dinoking (proper size to fiction), Landcross, Guard City, Battle Gaia, & G2 Defensor. Wish List of Titans:Metrotitan,Majin Zarak

Yea the G2 sets were readily available at Marshalls and TJM in the NYC/NJ area during the holidays. Haven't seen it at all since.

Deluxe Groove is now "shelfwarming" at Amazon.com. Who would have thought. If anyone anywhere in the world is still looking for him, here he is for just $17

https://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-Transform ... rds=groove

william-james88 wrote:Hes not out yet, officially. Worst case scenario is that you will have to import him from the either the chosen prime or somewhere else (BBTS maybe). he will only be 11 pounds, so while you might cut a loss for shipping, at least you wont be taxed when it arrives due to its low declared value. Your defensor will be complete, you'll just have to pay the shipping for a groove sold elsewhere. And thats IF Kapow doesnt restock when groove actually gets released.

I wrote this back in May and this is me being true to my word. Though due to Brexit, Groove is now 13,53 pounds rather than 11. But still, what I wrote holds. He is available for cheap for whoever wants him, and that low price should offset the shipping. We all just needed a bit of patience.

Good for the folks still looking. I payed for him, but I enjoyed the thrill of the hunt and found that hit to be worth paying the extra for. So I regret nothing.

I think I paid the full $17 in early summer also, but again no regrets. Still I do find it odd that a whole case of Deluxe Groove showed up at a Wal-Mart in my area in December... I don't know if a scalper picked them up, but they were all gone last I checked. I figured even at $10 a pop, after shipping etc... the profit from selling them on eBay, if any wouldn't have really been worth it.

it really wouldnt, I doubt be could sell them for less than 17$ shipped.

And Insurgent, I am glad you commented since this was mainly in response to our discussion 8 months ago. But yeah another consolation is not just the hunt but the fact that none of us could predict he would be readily available 5 months after the facts back when he was rarer than a chicken with teeth in may.

Slingshot and Wildrider never appeared after like this, did they? Sometimes patience pays off. Sometimes it's less about owning it and more about finding it. You have a better memory than me as I can't remember our discussion 8 months ago. Main reason I commented is because it feels lately that the focus of these threads (and news) is about finding them for the cheapest possible option and less about actually owning it. I understand budgets and people want the best value, heck even I do, but past few months it just seems like the cheapest thing is the only motiviation. So I wanted to throw in my opinion and have a little nudge about other reasons.

Not that I am aware of, that's why it seemed more practical for me as someone jumping in late to CW/UW just to get the UW sets. Btw...

HA! Well it was about finding it for a fair price. In the end, 17$ for Groove is only a good deal in the context of how hard it was to get it for that price. But that was the same price Wildrider and Slingshot were when first released, they were just standard retail prices (plus shipping, which took a good chunk). And to answer your question, those two were not available this long. They were available for anyone in the US to get them when they were released, but if anyone woke up 2 months later, they were far gone.

And yes, the conversation has changed especially with the the boxsets selling so poorly. But this is all after the facts and the box sets were never really that hot. Plus we all know their existence didnt cost Hasbro much anyway in comparison. These redecos are just gravy for both fans and Hasbro. Squeezing out more product for little development cost. I think we are able to distinguish that. Since on the Titans Return side, the conversation is still about obtaining the product rather than gettign it at the cheapest possible.

So since it was mentioned in the Trypticon thread I'll bring it up here as a more appropriate place.

Were in retrospect Alpha Bravo, Off Road and Rook a good idea or not ?

Could the idea have worked better if handled differently and should they have not chickened out doing the same thing with Bruticus or Computron too ?

Just found out that 'Optimus Maximus' is sometimes used to refer to the Roman God Jupiter. So while I'm sure 'Maximus' is just a reference to Energon - given the other Energon references throughout the dude - this is pretty damn cool.

In a perfect world yes, new characters are fun. In the world of collectors, not so much the way they handled it.

Part of me wishes they would have just stuck to their guns and left well enough alone, but deep down I wanted a G1 team. At first I wanted outliers for Bruticus as well, but (even though they were fun figures and characters) I decided they had no place in my collection and sold them to a friend.

Maybe it's not a case of chickening out with Bruts and Comps but just giving the fans what they wanted (more or less). That's pretty much what they did with the original three combiners by eventually offering the original lineup.

Rook was a brilliant idea. The combined mode looked so cool and the figures really worked out. If he would only get more personality and comic appearances, then I would be perfectly happy.

Alpha Bravo and Offroad were not bad at all. I actually like the fact that Superion didn't end up with 2 of the same jet for me considering both Liokaiser and Victorion use twin modes, plus it would've felt a bit boring. Same with Menasor. I like a combiner to have some different molds in the game.

I enjoy the fiction they wrote to support the new guys. Rook was tragically neglected and underdeveloped though.

I do wish Wildrider (or what ever his name is) was a unique mold, but I'm glad they went with the DE mold over the BD mold. At one point I had DE and WR as Menasor's legs and he looked like he was rocking some sweet bellbottoms

I think Hasbro did just fine, but you can't make all of the people happy all of the time. They did all right in my book ;)^

I love the new limb guys, I just wish it was executed a bit better, so that the original fifth members weren't so hard to find. And to be honest...I like CW Defensor better than G1 Defensor.

They were born out of necessity rather than passion - the reason they exist is because Hasbro had limited molds. I'm sure the design team would have been happy to put out Slingshot and Wildrider on the shelves... but since they would have shared a mold with someone on the exact same wave, that wouldn't look particularly great and it'd be a hard sell. So they put out Alpha Bravo and Offroad as re-uses of future molds and to diversify the original few waves.
Rook would be because they couldn't make a Groove mold with no other re-use to justify it (Takara came to the rescue there), so they had to make a new guy out of Swindle while giving Groove a new place on the team.

They managed to go with Blast Off meanwhile because... well, fighter jet on a combat team. Makes sense. Especially when most would agree that that's what Blast Off should have been rather than a space shuttle randomly plonked with a bunch of army vehicles. But for everyone else the molds of Vortex, Ironhide and Swindle just wouldn't have worked for Slingshot, Offroad and Groove. So they had to get a bit more creative.

And... considering that we eventually did get the original team members (and even a Shuttle Blast Off)? I think it turned out fine. Especially when Alpha Bravo and Offroad are easily the best members of their respective teams :-P I think we as collectors just need to start accepting that for a toyline whose main demographic is children and the adults buying for their children, certain concessions have to be made to get toys of our beloved characters made.

I do too, and he's my favorite combiner! Combiner Wars did him so much justice. And what's even funnier is that, in my opinion, Hasbro blew Takara out of the water with Defensor. When you could use Hasbro Groove as a limb, that ended it all. You could have him G1 or CW and he still looked amazing. I never looked for CW deluxe Groove cause I love the legends dude and the chest armor looks so good to me, and Rook is an amazing arm
