Pfft, not for me. Armada got me into the brand, Energon served to further cement it for me, crappy cartoon or otherwise. [-(

Also, the more I look at the history of the toylines, Energon seems to be the forefather of the classics line (Grimlock and Galvatron for instance). I still use their Sharkticon and Slugslinger as these characters' classics counterparts. And my friend uses it's shockwave(blast) for that same function.

Well, Energon was during the pinnacle of the franchise's twentieth anniversary. I think it would be easier to list the guys that aren't homages than those that are.

I love the energon toy line, when I started collecting again it was that line which helped draw me back and was a few of my first purchases.

I only started collecting since April this year and as I build my want list, I keep adding Energon figures to it (along with cybertron). It's a great line, especially the scouts and decepticons. And thats the line the 5mm ports were really prominent, meaning the weapons from that line can stlill be used in fun ways to this day.

Also, Mindmaster, aside from the names, I dont find much homage in the Prowl, Hotshot and Ironhide molds (probably the molds I dislike the most from that line).

Your right, I have the hot shot mold (both of them). It's okay but definitely not the lines strongest point by far. Rodimus is fun though as is Inferno, despite his head not being hidden very well in alt mode. Divebomb is my fav in that line, I absolutely love it.

I don't know, they seem to have a street gang thing going on (pipes, knives etc.). If they could, one of them would probably have a chain weapon.

I think I'll wait for TFSource to get theirs up first, since I'm more familiar with how they operate compared to Big Bad Toy Store. If they haven't done so by the time Christmas is over, I'll give BBTS a shot.

Flashwave wrote:Here's a thought: Divebomb as the Torso for Predaking, retooled with new wings and heads for Wildfly and Windrazor. Develop a Quadropedal figure that can easily be reskinned, that allows the entire beast mode head piece to fold over on either a ball or a hinge to be ou of the way. Hasbro basically did this with the Airelbots, giving each figure new wings and a headbut ultimately identical transformation schemes. Rampage, headstrong, Razorclaw, and Tantrum basically the same figure "tweaked". Accesories included, cost offset is proably equivalent to two molds. The fans will cry out in joy that they are getting a Predaking, then revolt in the same day because all the Predacons are identical, despite being largely the same figure in G1. (actually, two base chassis according to pictures.)

This is pretty much right along the lines of what I was thinking. Novelty is nice, but using the same molds (or basic design elements) has a nice side effect - the gestalt is more symmetrical. Some asymmetry is what really makes it 'look' like a gestalt, but too much and the thing can look like Frankenstein's monster. It was a problem that always limited he Energon gestalts in my mind - if the same mold wasn't used for both limbs, they really looked borderline nonfunctional.

Having the fliers (Divebomb, Wildfly, Windrazor, and even Swoop) as the voyager classes had not occurred to me, but would help get those fantastically huge wings you want to see on Predaking. Also, with the legion class figures to provide add on armor, the size disparity between the torso bot and the limb-bots doesn't necessarily have to be as big as it used to be, so Divebomb might not have to completely dwarf the others.

I wonder if you could get the hand/foot accessories to become the heads on the different Predacons...

Fellow seibertronian Shajaki has informed us that both the first wave of Transformers RID 2.0 and Generations Combiner Wars are now available for pre-order at BBTS.
This includes the legends, deluxe and voyager class figures for Combiner Wars and the Warriors, Titan Heroes, Hyper Change Heroes and Legion and One Step Changer class for Robots in Disguise.

The prices vary per line and character and several are already sold out.

For Prowl, his is dual-homage but an incredibly minor one. He turns into an F-1 race car (like Machine Wars Prowl) that has police car attributes (like G1 Prowl). And possibly, his dark blue deco could maybe sorta kinda be a reference to RID Prowl's powered up form.

For Hot Shot, he kinda cheats in that his altmode is sort of a homage to... himself. As in, his Armada self, being a bright yellow sportscar in energon just as he was in Armada.

For Ironhide, though not in his original form, his upgraded "Energon Ironhide" form with the green deco and silver star designs turned out to be a homage to G1 Hound, of all things.

Combiner Wars Wave 1 Voyagers sighted in the UK

Postby william-james88 » Fri Dec 12, 2014 2:42 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
As found in our UK sightings page, fellow Seibertronian Searchlight has spotted and purchased Voyager Silverbolt at Smyths for £22.99 (about US$36) in the UK. Silverbolt and Optimus Prime are apaprently the only ones from that line to be on shelves.

Here are pictures he took of his purchase.

Image

The cashier was having troubles scanning the barcode as the computer couldn't find it on file. So receipt doesn't show much.

Image

This is my feeble attempt to get them on the pegs.

If you find these in your local stores, make sure to post your findings in the respective Toy Sightings thread.

36 bucks for a voyager ? I never heard of Smyths but I'm guessing it's a smaller chain that sells Transformers at "I got it first" prices.

X, that's the price converted from British pounds. Such prices are standard fare in Europe actually and unfortunately. And if you must know, Smyths is a rather large chain of toy stores found throughout the UK and Ireland. >:oP

As JelZe stated that's just the conversion rate to US dollars. £23 is actually quite reasonable over here as TRU sell their voyagers at closer to £25. And Smyth's is probably our second largest toy store after TRU.

also you've gotta take into consideration the avg wage/cost of living varies from place to place. For example, even taking exchange rates into account, the min wage where I am in AUs is at least double what I've seen in some places in the U.S., but then so is the price of certain goods, so it all balances out (mostly) in the end. Also, unlike the US, Aus/Uk and many other places include any taxes in the price.
