Now there's an idea... a Rescue Bots combiner.

A Novel idea...
In my experience, it really isn't. I've seen tons of suggestions and proposals for a Rescue Bot combiner comprised of CW molds.

There could be worse though, like that vehicle alt mode G1 Dinobot team

Hey, I liked this idea!! :-s

Me too. I actually wouldn't mind this set myself. Kinda reminds me of how they were before what happened in Fall of Cybertron with Shockwave experimenting on them and giving them their dinosaur modes.

The desperation for generations dinobots is so great that this idea was thought up as soon as they revealed the first 2 combiners coming out, so before people even knew of Rook.

Here's my own personal take on Alpha Bravo (goes for Offroad & Rook as well). Originally I was on the hate bandwagon as well. *Why Hasbro change the Airialbots" etc...etc... But Hasbro releasing the genuine 5th members, even if only exclusives, somehow makes up for it.

I favor UW by far, but I went out of my way to purchase these CW "6th members" as I call them, because as long as you have the originals, I think there is always room for more. I think of the NBA. You always have your "starting 5" but the 6th man (or the first off the bench) is usually highly valued. That's how I see these guys. Especially in the heat of battle, Combiner limbs are no doubt going to be ripped apart, so they are going to need a *6th man* to step in.

In the original series episode "The Burden Hardest to Bear", when First Aid didn't want to fight anymore, Rook could have stepped up and saved the team etc...

Even more NBA analogy...As long as we always had our "Starting 5" in our combiner teams, heck I wouldn't even mind if the Airialbot ranks (or any other combiner for that matter) swelled to 10 members. It may just be me, but I think Hasbro releasing the "proper" 5th members (then Takara following suit) really saved Alpha Bravo, Offroad, & Rook. I really enjoy having them now, whereas before I don't even know if I would have started collecting the line with an "80%" accurate original combiner.
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Wish List of Modern Combiners: Road Caesar, Monstructor & Dinoking (proper size to fiction), Landcross, Guard City, Battle Gaia, & G2 Defensor. Wish List of Titans:Metrotitan,Majin Zarak

I like the basketball comparison. I never got the actual final original limb because I love the alternates in there. Rook is my favorite combiner wars figure as well, so that worked out big time

I avoided AB and Offroad like the plague. The Aerialbots are supposed to be planes, so I couldn't get past that with AB. And Offroad just didn't come across to me as a proper Stunticon. But Rook I was okay with, especially with the addition of legend size Groove. Rook fits with the rest of the Protectobots rather well, to the point that I'm seriously debating if I should bother getting deluxe sized Groove. The only reason for me is to have a more G1 toon accurate team. The reasons against: $25 for a deluxe figure, Groove as a leg doesn't look as good as Rook.

Funnily enough, Alpha Bravo himself has become a bit of an anomaly for me. Back when I got him my plan was to get all the combiners - and my thought process was that if I went Takara, Alpha Bravo would be the only Aerialbot I couldn't get. So I might as well get him anyway.

... buuuuuuut now I've limited my wanted combiners to Hasbro Bruticus (almost complete), Hasbro Defensor (halfway complete + including rook & legends groove), Victorion, Sky Reign/Lynxmaster and (if I can) Takara Computron.
So essentially, Alpha Bravo is now a sort of vestigial leftover from my plans to get a Combiner I no longer feel any need for, especially since I didn't get any more of his flying plane pals. He's alone. An outside. A wanderer in this bizarre world where I haphazardly shove TFP Vehicons and Cybertron Sideways into G1 displays.
Do you think he'd like to sign up for the Protectobots?

His white would do better for the overall color scheme then Blades' bright red

Nah, I don't have any full combiners. ... not yet.
Though I DID forget that I want Devastator. I want him as part of my sort of like, Megatron's-personal-group Decepticon display. He would be one of my last priorities, though...
If I had to list by priority, come to think of it, it'd go Defensor > Bruticus > Victorion > Sky Reign > Devastator > Computron. I love and adore them all, really, but some I like more than others :D
That said I think I will complete Bruticus first since I only need Vortex for him as opposed to Hot Spot, Streetwise and Blades for Defensor.

This is an extremely good point and one I certainly considered when trying to think of what the heck to do with Alpha Bravo. At the same time though Blades is my favourite protectobot - First Aid aside - for how much he stands out in terms of being the psycho brawler on the rescue team, and I think his red contrasted to Defensor's otherwise relatively uniformed colour scheme of blues and whites helps to emphasise that. Which I know was probably not the intention back in 1986, but I do like how it works out.

This is true, but I want to keep my money down - especially when I don't care for the Shockwave stock and the Bruticus head in that set. Rather not pay 25 quid for a pair of guns when I could pay 20 quid for a pair of guns and Hot Spot.

We might down the road if Hasbro does another budget repaint line with few original molds like Universe but who knows how long that will be.

Problem with that compared to normal figures - or even titans return figures - is that they specifically have a gimmick that requires other figures to use.
