Transformers Generations Selects Series Discussion

I'm thinking about it. There are pros and cons.
Pros -
A whole set of Dinobots in one go.
Studio series may not give you an entire set - Snarl was only in the movie by animation error. Or be in 'scale.'
Cons -
Studio Series will likely be more accurate (hopefully in size as well).
I don't need them to combine.
200 bucks is a bit steep given I won't combine them therefore not using the swords and stuff.

So much dislike for the set, and I don't blame them. I wonder what was going through TakaraTomy's mind... Unless this is a gauge for future releases. Some PotP combiners are still "incomplete" like the Starscream and Inferno one, then there's Orthia who's incomplete in Japan because Greenlight and Lancer never had a proper release there.

After both this announcement, and all the dislike I'm seeing online I'm not so sure. Seems like everyone is either satisfied with what they already have, or waiting for SS86 Dinos. I know I see lots of auctions asking for 100+ for a loose/complete Volcanicus, but I'm going to wait until the inevitable pre-order goes up on pulse, then see what someone is willing to actually pay for PotP Dinos. My guess is that they instantly just went way down in value for a variety of reasons
Grimlock might not sell for very much, but CW/PotP deluxes all seem to run higher than original retail. $60 would only be $12 a figure. I'd expect at least $20 for each limb, without accessories.
That's why my plan to army build CW Blastoff is on pause.

I mean if we got "new" additions then people would buy them up.
It's just the case here that these Dinobots aren't new at all, just different colors and a few new accessories that aren't really special or major improvements.

True, but what about a new version of Orthia with the Forge of Solus Prime?

I gotta be honest, I don't understand why people seem to hate this so much. It's not going to stop the non-combining SS Dinobots from coming out, it's an improvement on the original release, and plenty of people have wanted a Dinobot combiner for decades. Why is having options a bad thing?

I think people are mainly disappointed because they were expecting/hoping Takara would do something unique along the lines of Megatronia/Grand Galvatron, especially since the dinobots were already released by Takara under PotP.
Personally, my disappointment was towards it just being a better version of something I already have, and not better enough to want to buy it. So that disappointment lasted about 2 minutes, and now I am pleased at being able to skip this version.

Me personally I was hoping the Dinoforce and their combined form of Dinoking. I think that would’ve sold like hot cakes instead of this.

It's funny...as nice as these look, since they are a combiner, I still prefer the original releases. With Selects Swoop, you get a uniform combiner team, which I think works much better.
But give me those swords!
Also, I don't remember the original looking so...odd in combined mode...

I think these look really good. I have the original Grimlock and Slag and then a Masterpiece Grimlock, but I never got the previous Volcanicus bots. This seems like a good chance for me to finally get a full set of good looking dinobots.

2 problems with Selects Swoop, 1) he doesn't actually match the rest of the team, the colors are off, and 2) by all accounts every copy is a floppy mess.

True...since I already had Blue Swoop, I popped the silver arms and legs off, and put them on the red torso. The beak too. Solid as a rock.

That would mean the source of the floppiness is the sockets being too big on the Selects. Nothing that can be done with the wing colors tho...

Naw...but you'll notice Takara's new Swoop has the same grey as Selects Swoop for the wings.
I try to convince myself that since G1 Swoop had chrome wings and metallic silver body parts, it makes sense that the wings on my PotP hybrid are a different colour to his arms/legs.

Wow, that reveal was totally lame.
Got that set for $93 at retail when it came out. Paint jobs, new feet, and the new swords cannot double that price. TDW was $60 and added so much more bulk and playability to the figure. It is far better than this.
They could have done something original, or at least added more to the package. But nope, cartoon accurate when that is literally happening again next year.
thank goodness I can pass on something.

I pretty much share the same sentiment. I love the UW series, which basically this is, in spirit. The only difference being that when they initially came out, you pretty much knew with enough time to choose whether you wanted the Hasbro version, or just wait for the TT set. With brand unification, pretty much any hope of getting more UW sets were ended. If this had cone out 3 years ago I would not have wasted money on the Hasbro ones. Also I'm worried now TT may try to do the same with Abominus. So much wasted opportunity. The deco of course looks great, but most people are not going to want to pay double for a slightly better thing they already have. Hopefully TT learns from this misstep and moving forward continues to produce new toys, not rehashed ones for its Selects line.
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Not sure which Grimlock is better, but the dinosaur mode of PotP Grimlock from the waist down is pretty bad.i think the problem most of us had with this set was waiting so many years for a modern set of Dinobots (especially after Classics Grimlock but no other Dinobots) but then seeing the sacrifices made to stick a Combiner mode into these guys was disappointing to say the least. Hopefully the Studio Series 86 Dinobots, if they're really happening, rectify this and give us the amazing Dinobots we've always dreamt of since modern Classics Generations toys began back in 2006. No pressure or anything Hasbro and Takara!

Honestly, I don't think the limb-bots even sacrificed anything (other than size for one reason and guns for another) they were really cleverly designed and the brontosaurus-guy is one of my fave's from the line, also, classics grimlock all the way, never had either, but classics looked rad as hell

I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

The limb Dinobots strike me as too thin or lanky, or whatever, a problem I have with a lot of the Combiner Wars molds, particularly with the legs and/or crotch area (please don't take that out of context!). It works for some characters like Alpha Bravo, but Swoop looks like he's a wimp. I want bulky Dinobots or cartoon accurate Dinobots. I'm hoping that what rumors have for Studio Series 86 will be up my alley.

I agree with you for the most part and do think Swoop needed a bigger figure...but isn't Swoop typically the most wimpy of the Dinobots overall to balance out his flight abilities?
