Cutthroat could be Tentakill easy just swap the wing components with octopus arms. Or heck I’m looking at Blot and I could see a Tentakill out of him too hmm. Rippersnapper already kind of has that Skalor look I think. I think it’d be an easy swap for all of them but who would be that Legends class dedicated Targetmaster :-? That’s wishful thinking of course I think that’d be so cool.

The Legends class component was more Hasbro's thing. Takara omitted that component for all of their Unite Warriors releases. And with this being a Takara-only project, chances are they'd make all five limb components at the Deluxe class, while somehow also making Overbite convert into a gun mode (since he was the one whom King Poseidon wielded in gun mode).

I would rather not have one of them relegated to tiny size.

Sabrblade, it occurs to me that those incidences were prior to brand unification, which may have changed their strategy a bit.

Well, if they make Overbite from Rippersnapper I think the gun mode wouldn't be too troublesome to achieve, based on my own fiddling with him.

From what we've seen of both the last few Legends releases and the likes of Star Convoy, Takara seems to be able to still do their own projects without Hasbro's involvement that in turn aren't subject to the terms and/or limitations of the brand unification, with the only effect said unification appears to have on these is their being sold on Hasbro Pulse, beginning with Star Convoy.

Just look at how much mass that Turtler has; all that retooling had to have been done well beyond the range of Hasbro's typical budget for a Voyager class figure.

Well, that was kind of my point. I was thinking that the fact that these will be sold to the USA as well might have changed up their marketing strategy.

But now another thought has occurred to me. The teams that Takara teased and advertised all together? Were sold as giftsets. If the Seacons are being sold singly...

Oh, definitely, but then it is an exclusive. Some of the new parts doubtless existed on the mold already, but certainly not things like the big sword and gun. And the shield has probably been made fancier.

I am usually weary of hope but I honestly think an entire team makes more sense here than to expect otherwise.

That would only matter if Takara had to conform to Hasbro's more rigid size class-based packaging requirements. But, by all appearances, every Takara-original product being sold on Hasbro Pulse is just going to be a straight import with the original Japanese packaging.

ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:But now another thought has occurred to me. The teams that Takara teased and advertised all together? Were sold as giftsets. If the Seacons are being sold singly...
Yeah. that's another curiosity that makes this very strange for Takara. If they're planning to make the whole team, there really doesn't seem to be any reason for them to not do it as another giftset. It's weird.

Indeed. Further evidence that Takara made all these extensive retool changes without Hasbro's input, like when they made all new figures for Groove and Blast Off, or when they did their own unique retooling for their Technobots on top of the established pretooling that each of those molds had already had.

Just goes to show how impressive Takara can be whenever they go the extra mile by themselves. 8-)

Maybe not. A giftset usually (but not always) means getting a little bit of a deal on getting multiple items all at once, instead of individually. Maybe Takara has decided to milk it this time and release each Seacon member individually as a premium release, charging a little more than usual for figures of similar sizes, so that they can get consumers to spend more money in total over an extended period of time than they would buying a complete set all at once, as in Unite Warriors. Just a thought.

You've completely lost me on your logic there. Care to explain why having direct access to the USA market couldn't prompt a shift in marketing strategy by itself? Like, the way I see it, new direct access to a market is plenty of reason for a company to mix up its marketing strategy because now it has a new prospective customer base to woo.

What about cost? It's easier to lay in money for them one at a time, especially since between the Seacons having an extra full-size member and the additional weapons for Turtler the giftset would be a costlier one than normal.

...Thinking about it, Star Convoy and Armada Optimus could also be factors - perhaps the Seacons are being worked on one at a time for now because of the resources currently allocated to the development of those two.

Actually, with the Technobots Takara outright retooled different molds for three of them. Lightspeed was retooled from the Wheeljack version of the Breakdown mold instead of being a Streetwise redeco, Nosecone was retooled from Rook instead of Brawl, and Strafe was retooled from Shuttle!Blast Off.

That's what I said. Takara's Technobots had additional unique retooling done to their molds on top of the pretooling that each of those molds had already had made for them by Hasbro:
  • Silverbolt --> Hasbro Scattershot --> Takara Scattershot
  • Wheeljack --> Counterpunch --> Lightspeed
  • Rook --> Ironclad --> Nosecone
(since Strafe and Afterburner were made from Takara's original molds, they didn't have the same kind of pretooling done to them that the Hasbro molds did)

What do you think would make for the best retools into Seacons Sabr? Just if, if they did make that set.

Always have a soft spot for Seacons I got the gift set for my bday as a kid gets me giddy thinking about a whole Piranhacon. I don’t like the King blah blah jazz I will always think Piranhacon is one of the coolest gestalt names.

They are organic based designs so it would have to be the monsterbots or dinobots, unless we get some fully new molds.

I believe we will either get 4/5 retools, or 2/3 retools and a new mold that itself is used twice in 2 different toolings.

Takara Transformers Generations Selects Gulf, King Poseidon Revealed

Postby D-Maximal_Primal » Wed Jun 12, 2019 7:55 pm

Motto: "There are no impossibilities in the multiverse, just small minds unable to comprehend the possibilities"
Weapon: Armor Axe
Thanks to our very own Sabrblade and Twitter user gadepon we have our very first images of the upcoming King Poseidon combiner figure!

After all the questions surrounding whether Selects Turtler would come with his entire team to form the legendary King Poseidon, we have confirmation that indeed, we will be getting the King. The new images show us the prototypes for Turtler in all 3 modes as well as his first limb, Gulf! Gulf appears to be an extensive retool of one of the Terrorcon deluxe Blot, which is also what we were expecting.

We are only getting a look at Turtler and one limb, so we have yet to be told whether or not all 5 limbs are coming or if we will just get 4, and if we get 5 limbs if they will be targetmaster capable.

You can check out Turtler, Gulf, and King Poseidon with one leg below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!

The silhouette shows Lobclaw to be an arm, so he's not getting omitted. Guess this means Overbite gets to be the gun.

Motto: "The only good is knowledge, and the only evil is ignorance."
A few things to note here:

- Gulf/Skalor is a direct retool of PotP Blot, meaning only a few parts are changed; the Monster Mode head, Robot Mode head and the lower arms. I can't quite tell how they did the tail tho.
- It looks like King Poseidon/Piranacon will follow the PotP formula for the hands and feet, as evident in the lower right corner:

Upon closer inspection, the hands have individual fingers!
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

- Jelze Bunnycat =:3

Looking for:
- TR Furos (Hardhead's head) and Crashbash (lost him :()
- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)
- CW Brake-Neck/UW Wildrider, CW Offroad
- TR Twinferno & Grotusque
- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1 (plus repro Victorion hands and feet?)

Weapon: Vibro-Axe
Forgive me if I just haven't seen it somewhere, but is it confirmed, announced, etc. that this set will be Generations Selects only for Japan?
