"No... we can amend the constitution, the constitution itself says so:

"Article V (Article 5 - Mode of Amendment) - The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.""

And good luck with amending the 2nd one. So basically, argument over.

Moonshot wrote:They had very capable guns back then as well, "machine" guns even.

Yeah, describing guns in 1776 as 'very capable' only makes sense if you're living in a movie. Small arms were crap, and the Gatling Gun was a 170lb beast that required four men to operate, and didn't come around for several decades after the second amendment was passed.

Why doesnt anyone speak out about banning knives when someone stabs 20 people or trucks when they run over dozens? Because it would be stupid to blame the knives and trucks? Yes. Same as guns.

"I get tired of hearing this argument EVERY time, but maybe if the response is put out there enough, it'll eventually sink in.

Outside of video games, stabbing 19 people is far more difficult than shooting 59, so 'mass-knifings' could never compare to mass-shootings. Guns are simply more effective than knifes - if that weren't the case, people wouldn't shell out hundreds or thousands of dollars for a firearm, and the Iroquois would still control the eastern seaboard."

Obviously u have not Googled mass stabbings. First one to pop up was 29 dead and 300 wounded in China. Just for one example.

"As far as vehicles, we intensely regulate the design, sale, and licensing of cars and trucks because they are so dangerous. We already have cars with safety features that prevent drivers from hitting things (like people), even when they try to do so, and those features will doubtless become more common. Show me a Westworld-Style safety feature that makes it impossible to shoot a gun at a person, and I'll be more indulgent with respect to gun ownership."

We also intensely regulate the sale and licensing of guns because they can be dangerous in the wrong hands, just like vehicles. We also have laws against people shooting people, but that doesnt stop them. I think Seibertron himself can attest to that living in Chicago; very tight guns laws there but many shootings every day. Only way to fix the problem u guys are talking about is banning all guns in this country. Because if even one got through and was used in a shooting it would defeat the purpose. Also the genie is out of the bottle with 3D printing of guns as well. Good luck keeping guns out of the US with the US/Mexican border as it is now as well. When I was in the army I was stationed in San Antonio and spent a lot of time as a medic on that border. It is actually like the wild west there.

What "winning" are you talking about? I don't think I've seen any winning.

Moonshot wrote:Shall not be infringed. 2nd amendment argument over. They had very capable guns back then as well, "machine" guns even. Why doesnt anyone speak out about banning knives when someone stabs 20 people or trucks when they run over dozens? Because it would be stupid to blame the knives and trucks? Yes. Same as guns. Lots of times when government takes citizens guns, it leads to mass executions soon after. Germany, 7 mill dead, Turkey 1 mill mostly Christians, Soviet Union 50 mil dead, China 60 mill, and I could go on and on. That is the reason "they" want to take US citizens guns; control plain and simple.

So you're just dismissing my call for a happy medium and just gonna go with "this is just how it is? deal with it!" I didn't say ban all guns or take away everyone's guns. The idea of us being able to defend ourselves against our government or invading armies if needed is appealing. Can we have it both ways or is that the problem in and of itself? Something needs to change.

See above. We already have guns laws and criminals break laws. So how do we stop shooting without banning all guns?

Just so everyone is clear. Here is why we have the Electoral College, very smart for its time, and way smarter than Democrats of today.
There are 3,141 counties in the United States.
Trump won 3,084 of them.
Clinton won 57.
There are 62 counties in New York State.
Trump won 46 of them.
Clinton won 16.
Clinton won the popular vote by approx. 1.5 million votes.
In the 5 counties that encompass NYC, (Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Richmond & Queens) Clinton received well over 2 million more votes than Trump. (Clinton only won 4 of these counties; Trump won Richmond)
Therefore these 5 counties alone, more than accounted for Clinton winning the popular vote of the entire country.
These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles.
The United States is comprised of 3, 797,000 square miles.
When you have a country that encompasses almost 4 million square miles of territory, it would be ludicrous to even suggest that the vote of those who inhabit a mere 319 square miles should dictate the outcome of a national election.
Large, densely populated Democrat cities (NYC, Chicago, LA, etc) don’t and shouldn’t speak for the rest of our country.

Common sense is sadly uncommon, and the people who claim to have it seem often the least possessed of it.

"Arms" means "weapons", not simply "guns". Explosives are arms, even by 18th century definitions, and military tanks and fighter jets are "armed" with a variety of weapons. They aren't "small arms" of "firearms" but they are "arms", and if we enacted the Bill of Rights without compromise, they would be freely available to any American who could put together the money.

So it's not possible to support or discuss amending the second amendment, because it would be difficult to do so? If that's your approach to things, holding a conversation with you is inherently a waste of a person's time.

Moonshot wrote:Obviously u have not Googled mass stabbings. First one to pop up was 29 dead and 300 wounded in China. Just for one example.

Well, gee, that's really hard to believe. Let me go look that up on Wiki's list of rampage killers in Asia.

Hm, it seems the deadliest rampage killing in Asia was perpetrated by Woo Bom-Kon in South Korea in 1982. He killed 57 people and injured 35 more with a pair of M2 carbines and seven grenades.

Scrolling down the list looking for that 29 kills and 300 injuries...

In Japan in 1938, Mutsuo Toi was able to kill 30 villagers and injured three more using a sword and an axe, by sneaking into their homes and murdering them one-by-one while they slept. Oh, and he also used a Remington M11 Shotgun.

In China in 1994 - maybe this is the one you were talking about? - Ting Mingjian killed 28 people, and injured 30 to 80 others. Not quite '300 wounded' but I guess there's some room for interpretation there. Oh, wait, he was using a Type 81 assault rifle, not a knife.

The numbers all decline from there, nothing about a guy in China stabbing 300+ people.

"As far as vehicles, we intensely regulate the design, sale, and licensing of cars and trucks because they are so dangerous. We already have cars with safety features that prevent drivers from hitting things (like people), even when they try to do so, and those features will doubtless become more common. [size=150]We also intensely regulate the sale and licensing of guns because they can be dangerous in the wrong hands, just like vehicles.

Um... not here.

Tennessee doesn't require any sort of permit for the ownership of rifles, shotguns, or handguns. It is illegal to sell guns to anyone for whom ownership of a gun would be illegal, but since there aren't any real restrictions on who can own guns, that's sort of a trivial restriction. Tennessee's 'intense regulation' of gun ownership consists of - (1) prohibiting the sale of guns to drunk people, (2) requiring a safety course and fingerprinting of anyone wishing to carry a handgun in public.

We also have laws against people shooting people, but that doesnt stop them.

So because one law does not stop 100% of a problematic behavior, it's futile to implement other laws, to improve the effectiveness of that law? Would you take that stance in any other circumstance?

It's illegal to run over pedestrians with your car, but that doesn't stop people from committing vehicular manslaughter. That being the case, should it be legal to drive into oncoming traffic? To ignore stop signs? To drive down the sidewalk? Through a playground? Into a school? Or should all of those things be fine so long as you don't actually kill anyone?

I think Seibertron himself can attest to that living in Chicago; very tight guns laws there but many shootings every day.

Wow, man, you guys really love to hate on Chicago. You get that Chicagoans know how to drive cars, right? They can in fact drive out of their city, and go buy guns elsewhere, and bring them back. Local gun bans are nearly pointless; that's why action is necessary at the federal level.

Only way to fix the problem u guys are talking about is banning all guns in this country. Because if even one got through and was used in a shooting it would defeat the purpose.

No, because the point is to prevent deaths by shooting. If you reduce the number of shootings in a year from, say, 378 to 78, the purpose would not be defeated - you'd still have 300 shootings that didn't occur, and hundreds of people who didn't get shot.

Good luck keeping guns out of the US with the US/Mexican border as it is now.

A large portion of the guns used for crimes in Mexico are smuggled across the border from the United States.

When I was in the army I was stationed in San Antonio and spent a lot of time as a medic on that border. It is actually like the wild west there.

I'm gonna say something, probably no other Pro 2nd amendment person has ever said before, I will admit that guns are a very quick and effective way to kill people, there is no doubt about it, they wouldn't have been created otherwise. We all know knives and other melee weapons aren't as effective. However the 2nd amendment is still useful today, and as of the present, is necessary to keep. But if or when we find a way to protect ourselves without guns, that is more effective, then we may not need the 2nd amendment. The reason why we still need guns is to protect ourselves from the lawless criminals, that do not adhere to the law. Since criminals don't follow the law they will get guns illegally, and will still find a way even if all guns were banned. The only true way to solve the problem is to find a way to protect ourselves that won't kill people. Basically a weapon that is as effective as a gun, but not deadly, it will still hurt but not kill the person, nore make them bleed. In essence it will feel like you got shot, but won't kill you, it will have something that will incapacitate the person, but the person will stay conscious. This new weapon will have a saftey feature built in, that could recognise if it is being used for defense, or hostile reasons, and will notify the police whether hostile or self defense. Police stations will have to have shooting ranges for this new weapon, for people to practice and learn how to use it. I still dont know how the saftey feature will work but maybe a camera or the pulse of the person using it, but there are now multiple ways to make a saftey feature like that, other than the ones I mentioned. So there's my solution, what is yours, without taking away the right of a person to protect themselves? Which, as of now, is essentially what will happen if it were taken away, and not replaced with something better.

Just for the record I am not anti-gun, I however am looking for a better solution, and the new weapon I stated above will not stop people from committing mass murder,or killing eachother, it will happen one way or the other as long as there is evil in the world. But never forget evil will one day be destroyed, then peace will rign forever!

I can't think of a better, clearer demonstration of the fundamental problem we've run into as a nation.

Actually Clinton won 487-489 counties. I won't bother commenting on the rest of what you plagiarized.

But it seems fine for the minority of American citizens, living in the culturally homogeneous, sparsely populated rural areas of our country to not only speak for the rest of our country, but to decide its fate...? Because that's what happened, and it's happened multiple times now.

You can dress it up in someone else's smarmy words to make it look like some brilliant element of our democracy, but it's not. It's a vestige of a time when our country was much smaller and less interdependent. Owing to our electoral college system, the votes of Americans living in densely populated areas (which carry much of the country's tax burden) count for less than the votes of Americans living in sparsely populated areas. That's not 'protecting' rural conservatives, that's disenfranchising the rest of the country.

Although, I suppose it does harkin back to that old idea of owning land being a prerequisite for voting. The Romans would be so proud.

Oh, interesting side note: Hillary won 8 of the original 13 colonies.

I never said it was Trump that said it. Just that someone made that list. I didnt plagiarize anything, never did I try to pass it off as my own work. Everything after my : was copy/pasted, thought I had made that clear. Although I do admit that the end part about electoral college was mistakenly copied along with the list of Trump "wins". Although it is true that electoral college is a good thing. I am gonna go out on a limb here and assume the founding fathers were smarter than both of us. Oh and we dont live in a democracy, its a constitutional republic. Popular vote isnt the end all. The US is smarter than that.

Well our internet is completely out now and I don't like typing on my smartphone, so I'm out of the conversation. Good time to go back to work on revising that novel about the American War for Independence I've been working on this past year.

Well, let's be fair, it's barely even that. You have a weird two-party pantomime that confers no actual power to the people and places it all in the hands of the super-rich elite.

Here's the Wiki definition:

"A republic (Latin: res publica) is a form of government in which the country is considered a "public matter", not the private concern or property of the rulers."

Now you guys can stand there and say that's what you have - that your politicians have the concerns of the people they represent at heart, and not those of the party or themselves - but you must know it isn't true.

I don't have time to respond to the loyal-to-Trump list you posted above and all of the inaccuracies you posted and some of the scary things you posted seemingly in a proud manner. I'll comment on two things ...

The "Religious Freedom" act is extreme discrimination at its finest, but hey, it's nice to see you don't support women's rights and homosexual rights.

As for the number of counties won, Hillary definitely won more than 57 counties in the country. The map speaks for itself.

What? He copied and pasted all of that? I actually thought he wrote a very passionate message out detailing all of Captain Carrot's "accomplishments".

When I fact-checked the numbers Google pretty quickly led me to the chainmail they came from.

Yeah I copy/pasted that, thought I had made that clear. If u read the thread and my other reply to u, I made it clear that I have never been a Trump supporter/fan. I was just trying to poke at anti-Trump people with his "win" list because I think its hilarious how tore up they get.

While I agree with you, there is nothing we can do, since this site is run by an hierarchy, and not the people. Its not we the people here its us the owner's. But you gotta admit "captain carrot" is kinda funny, even if I dont agree with Seibertron.

So, do you two feel more oppressed when the liberal masses protest in public spaces, or when people post news stories that upset you on the website they privately own?

Just wondering which application of the first ammendment is a bigger trigger for you all.

If you truly respected everyones opinions then you wouldn't be saying that this news article should be removed.

So you feel it would bbe more fair and balanced - in the context of our nation as a whole - if people didn't share anti-Trump sentiments on their personal websites.

Not to be rude, but ... if you'd read my post you'd see I wasn't asking you.

I honestly don't have a problem with how you put your views across, you've been incredibly respectful for everyones opinions.

well no, just that if others have a different view, it shouldn't be attacked since they also share the same 1st admendement. And if people do have different political views, they should be talked about in a civilized manner, without one demonizing the other. That is how one learns, not through force of only one groups veiw, but many. We are to grow as a country together, not divided over opinoins or veiws. As a great man once said, "A house divided agianst itself can not stand"-Abraham Lincoln.
