The CW Dragstrip looks great, is fun, and has those beautiful chrome wheels. Anyway, the CW Menasor was pretty weak, but with all the upgrade kits, which I purchased, it looks amazing. I want to seem more of these new Stunticons before I decide to drop $130 on a new set. I mean, I bought every CW/PotP Combiner to complete the set. About all I want at this point is an official Devastator in scale with the rest. The other thing I like is that I have all 7 CW Stunticons and I like that extra upgraded squad. I'm curious if they're going to make all 7 or just the core 5.
A new set of Legacy Stunticons is going to run you upwards of $180, unless they go on sale ($22 each for 4 deluxes, then $85 for CC Motormaster + tax.
I'm good with what I have as well. I am really grasping at any straw I can, to find a reason to show any interest in anything Legacy related so far, but its just been a big Zero for me.
I see a LOT of strong opinions about taking characters that are not from the original series, and changing their design to *somewhat* fit that look. I agree that often it doesn't work. Also I agree that when Hasbro stops marketing a current line to promote what's next (usually just abandoning later waves to minute Social media posts, or posts from other retailers), it is kind of a slap in the face, especially since some really great toys have come late in almost every line, including Kingdom.
But also when look at Pulse' website and see of all the Legacy reveals, only the ones based on actual original series characters (Skids, Dragstrip, Kickback, and even Reformatting Galvatron), have sold out, it sends a message. It's also probably why they keep heavily promoting SS86, and every character that got a couple seconds of time on-screen in BB is getting SS toys before some major characters in the Bayverse films.
I'm not saying it is right or wrong, but just reporting what I see. Legacy reminds me a LOT of T30, which is in someways a step backwards. It is nice to have representation from other lines, and I hope it keeps happening.
However while T30 had OG characters strongly influenced by the comics designs of the time, and other series characters faithful to their respective series look, Legacy is highly influenced by the original toys/animated series (not a bad thing necessarily), and then taking characters from other series and changing their aesthetic, wit the exception of BW. Of course, I'm sure if we got BW Inferno, or Trarantulas as some sort of vehicles, the fans would be quite vocal, and probably rightfully so. I just wonder, if characters such as Bulkhead and Arcee were faithful to the look from the original series they came from do you think they would sell better?
Another similarity between T30 and Legacy is, while we are getting characters from different universes together, there is no overall crossplay pattern. I mean I guess there are the Energon weapons, but what exactly they represent if anything hasn't quite been explained (unless it was in the panel which I missed?)
In 2014, I had been out of TF toys for almost a decade (but I still watched the shows and read the comics). I had been casually looking at Classics, and Generations in stores and occasionally seeing items that were "neat", but not enough to get me back in. Prime Wars Changed all that, and with WFC, although I bought less than in Prime Wars, it had a LOT of great toys, including a couple of my all time favorites, and felt like a natural progression.
I understand Legacy is a new design team, and unfortunately 8 years later here I am about to bow out again. Sure there are a few bucket list items I'll be picking up from older lines, and keeping my eyes on anything TT does that may be special or unique outside of Hasbro, but that's about it.
