No problem. Let us know how it works out.

Yes, I suppose. But I wouldn't go through the whole rigmarole just to spare the pins. If they continue to endure, great -- if they break then I'd open up his knee.

They really don't make plastics as sturdy as they used too alright. Thanks.

All of the broken G1 figures from fairly gentle play I owned as a kid soundly disagree. Some people just have bad luck and they become a vocal minority and some toys just have bad engineering. The plastic really isn't at fault for UM's knees breaking, it's a design flaw.

Not a design flaw. I beg to differ. It maybe a choice of materials used in highly mobile parts. Those pegs should have been die-cast and not plastic. Plus the plastics today are no way as sturdy as those in yesteryears.

Examples.

1. 2001 Godginrai Takara broke on me. The cab part's foot. Just by transforming him. But it took almost 10 years before the break

2. Bigconvoy Takara version. Left shoulder (transparent part) broke on me just last year 2016. I purchased him 2004. Btw, I never subjected the shoulder part to any stresses as he was just transformed one and been put to display

3. My 1986 Hb Optimus inner cab plastic (the part that doubles as the pseudo chair broke, though that part is subjected to stresses during folding up his shoulders) back in 2004

4. Prowl 2 super version Hb version left ball joint just broke in car mode, after 6 months of purchase. Transformed twice.

5. Armada superpants elbow gold plastic broke after just looking at him cross eyed

6. MP Rodimus Convoy (3rd party companies are selling die-cast replacement joints for him not to mention the crudy plastics keep on breaking. Don't ask me, that's the general consensus of the program.

7. MP IH's chrome. At least three here at seibertron have attested to this (might have been cheep or thin chrome though)

The plastics do break but what sucks is that unlike the G1 originals, the latest break in mere months or a year.

Cobes has brought this to my attention. Rather than derailing this topic, if you guys would like to be part of the discussion can you shoot an email to myself (burn@seibertron.com) and cobotron (cobotron@seibertron.com) please? My one question is what would be the benefit.

Stick to a specific MP fig instead of another thread so it's easy (less confusing) to access. Heck, if others could do this why not the rest. I'd suggest, for easier use of the seibertron search engine, why not follow a specific/standardized title designation for MP figure?

I don't know how old you are, but you're wrong. If you owned G1 figures in the '80s then there's a good chance that many of them broke pretty easily. Most of mine had something break on them within a year. My Shockwave's gun hand snapped off, Thundercracker's tail wing snapped off, Hot Rod's head and chest broke off, Grotusque's monster leg snapped at the knee, Cloudburst's wing broke in half for no reason, Scorponok's shoulder joint ratchet broke, and Doubledealer's bird head broke off just to name a few of mine. It's a total myth that the plastic is worse today than it used to be. I had to return a lot of figures back then because they broke right out of the package.

And the problem with UM is absolutely a design flaw, they made the tabs holding the ratchet in place too small to withstand the force of the spring, that's a design flaw.

Your versions maybe but aside from those figs I mentioned, none of mine haven't succumbed yet. And for those that did succumbed, it all occurred years afterwards in case you did not get my narrative.

The latest plastics break far easily than those from the 80s. I know. I experienced them already.

How old am I? I was senior high school when Transformers was released onto the world back in 1984.

Then you were lucky if you didn't experience a lot of G1 breakages. I'm not wrong, the plastic is no worse now than it was then. The lack of moving parts gives the allusion that they're better built, but they were all prone to the same issues that today's figures are. Honestly, I have far more broken or damaged G1 figures than anything else in my collection.

You are wrong in a sense that you say you are "not" wrong. We have each differing experiences. I can't judge you objectively on how you handled your TFs. So that might be a variable affecting your breakage rate.

Mine, I never...ever subjected my collections to multiple transform wear and tear. Meaning, maximum 3x transform and left as display pieces.

The rate of my Tf breakages compared with the original G1 and the latest figs have a very wide interval as in years. The latest just can't compare in sturdiness. I stand by my posts. You might have had a far different experience. What hurts the most in my regard is that I DID everything right as in not subjecting the figs to numerous wear and tear yet they still broke up in front of my eyes.

That's what hurts :( buddy/lady ( if you are a guy or gal that is)

No, Emerje is correct. G2 figures broke a lot. Hell, for proof, just go on ebay and see how many non broken original g1 figs you can find.

For me, I did not have a single g1 figure survive in damages from childhood.

I don't own G2 figures. Only G1. So I can't say much about G2 (though I heard some were rife with GPS....it was a gold colored hotrod vehicle (not Hotrod)).

As for my other G1 figs, my G1 collections is testament to their still being whole. Check my uploads. As for ebay, well 30 years "later" expect indeed some breakage.

What seems to escape the point I'm making, G1 figures, those that broke up on me (one was the Takara Godginrai re-issue), one was my original Optimus, one was BWIINeo, One Hb Armada superpants ( I already replaced it with a Takara ML Superpants already) and the last was Hb RID Prowl II. The last two, broke on me months from purchase. Without rough housing. The rest that did break but had "years" interval between.

And the hip joints turned out to be ok. Not hella tight but not too loose to make things problematic. Just ok.

The only metal parts I can find are

- The feet.
- The bottom of his crotch-plate.
- The ears\White-Prime head. The blue at the back and the clip on front part are both plastic, however.

I'm really enjoying my Magnus. I'm being careful with the knees - not just because of this thread, but before I even read it was a potential weak spot, I felt that it could potentially snap anyway.

My ultra magnus thigh is not coming apart. I took out the two screws on the thigh and the screw for the knee. Is the thigh glued? Does it matter if isn't the first issue of the figure?

Ultra Magnus underwent surgery on his other knee due to a ridiculous design flaw by Takara.

The guy is called ULTRA MAGNUS, did they really expect those four little teeth to withstand the pressure?

Like I said the last time, these white and grey pieces should have been one single piece.
