Megatron *feels* fine, and he’s perfectly sturdy *except* their poor choice in a plastic composition. I personally have found my 3rd party figures to feel fiddle-y. While there’s still a certain flow or elegance to many of HasTak’s builds.

Oh man, I agree so much with this. It's not a knock against 3p, it's just my personal preference. There is often a lack of elegance to their engineering. Not all, of course, but a majority of the ones I bought (evila star and appolyon are great examples of fiddly transformations that lack elegance).

This MP Beast Wars megatron has a great transformation, even the back kibble has a nice sequence to it. It's just too bad some are broken, as someone whose Dinobot broke terribly I can sympathize.

I wouldn't think it's GPS per se as it's a place under constant stress from multiple places: the screws, the ratchets, whatever. Just a badly designed housing.

Can someone post pictures showing what's going on inside that area of concern with the internal mechanisms? Is there a spring that's too big that's putting to much pressure on the outer casing which causes it to crack? Is it limited to certain runs of the figure only? Are people having problems with ones they received from AmiAmi, HLJ, AND Amazon Japan (or other sources)? I feel like there has to be some commonality to the problem or if we collectively work together we can figure out what's wrong with the figure.

I got mine from Amiami and so far so good.

I haven't transformed him back to beast mode but I have been moving the legs around quite a bit. It's a rather fun figure to mess around with and pose. I haven't opened mine up as there's no need to yet so no pictures. I did loosen the screws a bit but they weren't tight to begin with.

Could some of the breakages be caused by forgettable steps like shifting the shoulders forward and the crotch backwards when going to beast mode? Again I haven't transformed mine back yet so I don't know how much either of those steps matter but it's a possibility.

Looks like the paint is causing the plastic to crack. I have the United Seekers Elite set. That set uses a heavy coat of paint. For some reason the paint on Skywarp was causing the figure to crumble. First it was the legs and the rudder section, and then the nose cone just disentergrated. I rarely played with it and it sits in the box for months at a time. Went to show my friend after fixing the tail rudder and leg and then the nose cone fell off and cracked at the connector piece. You basically can remove it while transforming but glue will not work to fix it

Paint can eat thru plastic I remembered I had an old Gundam model kit that a painted red using Gundam markers. After just a few days the plastic started splitting , and finally it just fell apart. I did replace the kit and painted it again this time it held.

The part that's breaking isn't painted at all. There's actually very little "paint" on the figure. Most of the color comes from tampographing a very thin layer of pigment to the dino skin. A lot of parts, like the black and purple on his torso (and I think the green on his legs) are two different colors of plastic screwed together. There's only a few places like most of the silver, some spots on his face, and a few other details are actually painted. There's no reason to believe paint is a factor here.

I'd be willing to bet that the people having the issue with this figure are simply transforming it too much. These figures are not meant to be manhandled and transformed repeatedly. They're collectors pieces capable of transforming, but really they're just meant to sit on a shelf and look pretty. If you want a toy to "play" with, buy chug or something.

Transformers only do one thing: transform. Masterpiece transformers for the price should be precision made and capable of being transformed hundreds of times if you're giving them the care of an expensive figure. Any Masterpiece that you can only carefully transform 3 times before it starts breaking is no masterpiece.

Yeah, it was prominent in a lot of the promotional shots; really nice too, as he was often in beast mode and was very emotive and expressive whilst in it

Also, here is a description from someone who disassembled theirs (they did not provide pics though)

I got mine today and transformed him once. So far i have experienced no breakage but out of curiosity i decided
to disassemble megatron and have a closer look at the part thats failing with some people.
Heres what i discovered,
1. The assembly screws were perhaps a little too tight on my copy.
2. The Rachets do not appear to be luberated at all
3. the Screw holding the Rachet gear in place were BRUTALLY tight.
4. the pattern in the plastic is likely the result of ether incorrect temperature or uneven temperature durring the casting of the part. It could also be poor mixing, perhaps both.

I think what might be happening here is the Rachet is generating so much vibration that the imperfection lines are seperating, almost like an Earthquake. i think the part is shaking itself apart
when you see it fail. I opted to apply Weight 80 silicon shockoil to the rachets and loosen the screw holding the gears in place alittle bit. I carefully worked the lubricant into the rackets until they moved more
smoothly and wiped off the excess. NOTE: i also did this in the outward rachetes as i believe these two probably contribute to the vibration problem. The Whole figure is now back togeather and
hasent failed yet. the legs are i believe, putting allot less stress on the part now but we will see how this goes.

Now we're getting somewhere. I wonder if my "plastic safe" LUB-E from Ace Hardware would work on those inner parts. That's what I use to loosen up gold plastic parts ... though this is a different problem altogether. I just mean if the LUB-E would be safe as a replacement for the lubrication the TFW user mentioned.

I'm going to take mine apart tomorrow. Hopefully he lasts!

I still think there's something going on with the springs. Maybe they're too long and need to be shortened as well and then expanded a little bit?

Wow, that's a really unusual place for that to happen. It's like the screw on the opposite side popped it off.

Looks like the paint is causing the plastic to crack. I have the United Seekers Elite set. That set uses a heavy coat of paint. For some reason the paint on Skywarp was causing the figure to crumble. First it was the legs and the rudder section, and then the nose cone just disentergrated. I rarely played with it and it sits in the box for months at a time. Went to show my friend after fixing the tail rudder and leg and then the nose cone fell off and cracked at the connector piece. You basically can remove it while transforming but glue will not work to fix it

Paint can eat thru plastic I remembered I had an old Gundam model kit that a painted red using Gundam markers. After just a few days the plastic started splitting , and finally it just fell apart. I did replace the kit and painted it again this time it held.

The part that's breaking isn't painted at all. There's actually very little "paint" on the figure. Most of the color comes from tampographing a very thin layer of pigment to the dino skin. A lot of parts, like the black and purple on his torso (and I think the green on his legs) are two different colors of plastic screwed together. There's only a few places like most of the silver, some spots on his face, and a few other details are actually painted. There's no reason to believe paint is a factor here.

I said pigment, not dye. Not sure why I need to provide proof, that's simply how tampographs are done. It's a special stamp that's used for detail work like the pink all over the purple dino skin. They'll often layer tampographs to create complex designs and it still feels perfectly flat and nobody has ever complained about it causing damage to plastic. And like I said, most of the color on this figure comes from layering different colored plastic and the part that's breaking is just bare plastic.

Alright, so MP-43 finally arrived yesterday, and holy balls he is a big boy in beast mode. Absolutely huge! Transformation is (relatively) easy compared to other MPs, considering it’s the same transformation scheme the original toy had albeit with extra detail. The waist connector was ungodly tight on mine, as it was for just about everyone else, and I did use the instructions to correctly fold the beast shell/robot wings.

I absolutely adore the colors on him, and they way the paint works with the textures has a certain... je ne sais quoi. The beast mode head especially has some great sculpting and expressive ability.

He poses like a dream, and the die-cast metal is used very well in the feet so he’s very stable. So far I’ve been lucky with my MPs; very few, if any, scratches on MP-36, MP-41 hasn’t lost his head and ShOuLdErS are fine, and so far no crotch-rot on MP-43 here. I might loosen the screws though.

Absolutely no regrets about getting this guy.

So how do you get at the screws on the left side of his crotch? The upper thigh / hip joint appears to be in the way. Do you have to disassemble the leg first to get at the screws in his crotch?

I can understand that. Especially since this popular character will probably get a rerelease at some point, as all MPs do.

All that you explained does not prove the entire toy was tampographed, and from the wiki you posted that only applies to the symbols, not the whole toy. Unless you work in the factory, I just wont believe you.

So I got my guy out, and put him in robot mode.

And I'm.... underwhelmed so far.

For one thing, it took over an hour to transform him trying to be as careful as possible, and I still have 3 hinges that are already stressed on his backpack. Add to that that both sides of the crotch look like they are already about to crack, and I'm really disappointed.

In spite of the problems, he's not bad, but he's also, I don't know, kinda boring? The paint work is fantastic, but he is not impressing me near as much as I thought he would.

I feel like I got more for my money by buying MPM-7 Bumblebee, that's about how I'm feeling right now. He feels a bit like MP-40 Hot Rodimus: kinda lame and not as exciting as I hoped he would be.

I havent tried transforming him back yet. I ended up messing with and combining Studio Optimus instead, who has been more fun to mess with. Maybe I'll try tomorrow, but he's not been the experience I wanted.
