Next Monday, on an all-new episode of "Pawn Stars", a Transformers collector attempts to cash out and sell his collection. "Pawn Stars" is a show on The History Channel that takes a look at historical significance of specific items brought into a pawn shop located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The shop is family owned and operated by three generations. The episode of interest airs next Monday at 10 PM Eastern/ 9 PM Central.

Interesting, I watch that show from time to time and have often wondered what would happen if someone brought in TF's. If past episodes are any indication the collector will probably be insulted by the younger guy called, Chum. Then one of the more serious guys will tell them he doesn't know anything about TF's and probably would never be able to sell them. I base that off the experiences other collectors have had while trying to sell them stuff. One guy brought in a bunch of rare Pezz dispensers and after being belittled by Chum for collecting toys one of the other guys said he couldn't offer him very much because he would end up having to sell them on Ebay against a bunch of other guys trying to sell the same thing. Hopefully this guy will have better luck!

I do wonder if the guy trying to sell his collection is/was a Seibertronian.

I would imagine if they were a serious collector they would have at least visited this site on a regular basis. You would think if they were a poster they would have piped up to let us know they were going to be on TV.

This Transformers collector will get ripped off, that is if the pawn shop decides to buy . . . .

But it would be funny if the guys at the pawn shop say "Well you know what? I don't know much about Transformers so I have no idea what these are worth so let me call in an expert."

Well they do that all the time for items they don't know very much about, it would be interesting to hear what their "expert" had to say. You're very right about him/her getting ripped off should they decide to buy, but that's to be expected when selling to a pawn shop.

i love how many figures i can recognize in the 3 seconds they show on the commercial.

"ohh theres a Blaster. and wheel jack. and Blurr, Kup, 4 g1 mix master's, 2 g2 mix masters, atleast 1 full g1 and a g2 devastator..."

looks like the person either likes army building, or just has a lot of the say toys

If they end up buying the collection, it might be time to go to vegas to fill out your G1 collection. :-?

These guys rip people off. Its pretty much the appeal of the show. The only guy i actually like on there is the bald guy and the rest are a bunch of fat bastards that have plastic smiles and gloat how they're gonna rip people off to make some sorta profit. Terrible show is terrible!

That's a little harsh, they tell people how much what they're trying to sell is worth. Then they reach a mutual agreement on what they'll pay for it. It's not a rip off if they're fully informed.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've been meaning to set my DVR to start recording that show (I've only seen it a few times, but I like it), so now I really need to remember to set it!

One of my favorite shows !!! Ill be watching, but I have a feeling Rick is gonna put the collector on the spot and give him a low price. How do you determine the general value of a figure anyway ??? In the sports card world they have "Beckett". What do we have ???

Thats where I go to get a general idea on the price of a figure. But you really never know for sure if thats what its actually worth or if thats just "a shot in the dark" as the pawn shop guys would say. Being curious, I actually went to e-bay after the "Pez dispenser" episode and looked at the going prices for Batman, Casper, and other Pez dispensers in general. I found no hard evidence to support that guys claim that those things were worth over $2000.

Well who ever it is the guys a moron (unless its just a ploy to get on tv)every one knows ebay & TF sites are the place to go to sell tf collections. What ever price they give is gonna be a rip off if they even give one. Id be really surprised if theyre even willing to buy the collection off of him.

Pawn Stars is one my favorite shows too. I saw the preview for the Transformers show last night.

I like how Rick sometimes makes bets with the seller to determine the final price. I could see a bet where Chum is challenged to transform a figure faster than the owner or something.

No matter what happens, it's going to be a painful episode to watch. Having been in the position that the guy is in (although I actually tracked down a local dealer who specializes in TF's/GI Joe/Star Wars) if they do take his stuff and he has any kind of attachment or any clue as to what his collection is worth, he'll walk away from the deal feeling like he just had vital parts of his anatomy slammed in a car door. I finally stopped selling off portions of my collection. Was feeling too much like being bent over with no lube or even a "can I buy you a drink first". Better ways to make money even in this crappy economy. I hope the guy leaves the shop with his collection still in hand.

Pawn Stars suck. Period.
That's my opinion on this matter.

Frankly, this show always makes me cringe. Because at the end of the day, someone always gets ripped off.

And throwing money around always makes me feel terrible, heck it can even give me a stomach ache.
Though, Transformers are an exception, so long as I can actually pay for it.
I'd never put anything on a credit card for very long.

Point is, I hate to see anyone sell their Transformers collection. Especially knowing the usual reasons for it. Going into dept, getting divorced, getting married, etc... Depressing. :-(

I dunno..I wouldn't be so harsh on a guy selling his collection. I did it, my reasons were valid. Besides, where would collectors be if there wasn't someone else willing to sell? I don't think pawn shops are the way to go, unless you just want to unload quick. It will be interesting to watch though.

I gotta side with the pawn shop on the issue of collectors getting ripped off. I love the show and watch it faithfully every week along with American Pickers. The first thing they always tell the collectors is "Im not going to pay collectors prices because I am not a collector, Im looking to make a profit." Everyone knows unique collectibles fetch top dollar from specialized clientle at online auctions. Pawn shops are not designed for special clients. They are designed for people who are broke and need money. And what better place for people to go broke than in Las Vegas, Sin City. I actually applaud Rick and his family for taking a normally boring business and adding a bit of history and humor to create an addictive TV series.

By the way, Im taking my collection to the grave.

I can see everyone's point of view of the show. Personally I do watch it and enjoy it from a humor factor. But just as someone previously said they are a pawn shop and they're there to make money. So I think most of us who do watch the show know that if they do decide to buy the collection, and IF they get a consult from a pro in the field of collectibles like TF this guy will not get what ever they may be worth. Especially if they are top notch items....'nuff said!! :CON:
