Someone named Ruination perhaps? Just need to swap out Leadfoot for Whirl and you've got the same team.

I always preferred 'Wreckage' for a Wrecker combiner. Both because it has 'wreck' in it (obvious naming convention is obvious) but because it allow Ruination/Baldigus to exist alongside it. Granted that 'always' is a small one, because its a fairly recently-attached name thanks to the collector's club but still...

I am pretty sure this is the first review of anything from wave 2. I’m in the same boat as you though, the only thing I have seen from wave 1 is the legends, and even then I still haven’t seen the final two waves from titans return, so I am probably not going to be seeing any of the new stuff for a while.

Video review of Power of the Primes Battleslash and Roadtrap (Battletrap)

Postby Seibertron » Sun Dec 31, 2017 9:28 am

Motto: "'Til All Are One!"
Weapon: Twin Shock-Concussion Missiles
Fellow Seibertronian ebo716 found a YouTube video review of the upcoming Power of the Primes Legends Class Battleslash and Roadtrap figures. Both individual figures combine to form Battletrap. The video was posted by xcorpeo on YouTube.

The Battletrap character was originally a Decepticon Duocon released in 1987 (the year of the Headmasters). He was comprised of two separate vehicles. In Battletrap's case, his separate vehicle modes were a helicopter and a blue SUV (or truck). However, his original form didn't have individual robot modes for his separate vehicle forms, so the new Power of the Primes take on him with Battleslash becoming the helicopter and Roadtrap becoming the truck is a new concept for the character.

Battletrap's last incarnation was from the BotCon 2015 "Cybertron's Most Wanted" set. That version of him was a recolor of Generations Voyager Class Autobot Springer, with a new head specific for Battletrap.

It is unknown if Battletrap's Duocon brother Flywheels will get the same treatment. Flywheels was also released as a Duocon in 1987, but was last seen under the previous series as a Titans Return Titan Master.

Battleslash and Roadtrap will be part of the Power of the Primes Legends Class Wave 2 assortment. Both figures will be joined by Tailgate in this assortment, which we have previously reported on. Wave 2 is expected to arrive in stores around March or April along with other Easter/Spring stock shipments.

Finally, TFwiki can get rid of the comment at the bottom of his G1 toy! :D

It does look really well done. I do like that they decided to go for two separate characters because I know there'll be some kids who just want a full character. Battleslash has funny looking hips but they're both really nice!

Got my hands on Wave 1 Prime Masters: fun little gizmos but I really wish they had better stability as a head (and a screw) but I have to remind myself that this was certainly not their intended function. I kinda wish they had elbows too but at this size they would have probably been too floppy anyway. They're cute and fun little bite-sized pretender shells, which I'm just glad were given a new life at long last.

Still got a Quake whose body has been hijacked by Skullgrin and once I put some paint on that body it will make for one cool figure, a pretender whose pretender shell is actually smaller than the giant robot mode. I might even display him with that Liege Maximo 'face' rather than go through the length of removing Quake's TM head and repainting all of it. That and Liege Maximo/Skullgrin has one of the best Prime Master 'head' mode, looking like some fierce (but abstract) snarling face.

Transformers Power of the Primes Volcanicus Package Art Pencils by Marcelo Matere

From the Facebook page of Marcelo Matere, the artist behind the package-art pencils for Combiner Wars' fan-built 'bot Victorion, we have a look at a similar piece of art for a much more recent combiner - Power of the Primes Volcanicus (comprised of the Dinobots being released in Waves 1 and 2 of the line).

Much like his work for Victorion and Combiner Wars Bruticus, this art of Volcanicus displays a somewhat 'rounded' and filled-out style, eliminating gaps and small engineering compromises found on the actual toys in order to present an incredibly intimidating-looking robot! Given that Volcanicus also has no fully-consistent "proper" limb configuration yet, which many of the G1-based updates from Combiner Wars and Power of the Primes do possess, it's also interesting to note the positioning of each Dinobot in this depiction - Swoop and Slug form arms, while Sludge and Snarl take on the heavy lifting as the legs.

Check out the pencil work below and on Matere's Facebook page, and share any thoughts you may have on this piece or the figure itself in the Energon Pub Forums!

For curious minds, the above news article's "fun substitutions" are: VolcanyoubelieveI'mstilldoingthisicus, Volcaknightswhosaynicus, VolcaNEWYEARicus. I know that got really old a long time ago (especially by internet standards), but it's my thing and I'm gonna keep doing it anyway.

Here's the actual toy for comparison:

Image

And differences there are, but not many noteworthy ones:

- Sludge and Snarl have switched positions, though the art is in line with his Earth Wars depiction.
- Snarl has his tail treated like Sludge's and Slag's, even tho the toy has it split, like the G1 one.
- Sludge has his back feet flip inward, something not possible with the toy. Also, the front feet seem to be twisted 180.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

Looking for:
- TR Furos (Hardhead's head) and Crashbash (lost him :()
- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)
- CW Brake-Neck/UW Wildrider, CW Offroad
- TR Twinferno & Grotusque
- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1 (plus repro Victorion hands and feet?)

I got Grimlock last week and im sorry but Volcanicus is the ultimate floppy piece of s**t. Besides looking all retarded with the offical shoulder configuration, the damn thing doesnt even stay tabbed together. The fan mod version with the shoulders pulled in doesnt hold any better. They sacraficed so much to make them a combiner in the first place and the damn combiner was still a total fail. And then theres scale. Does anyone else think they should have done Predaking in deluxe/voyager format and saved the dino-combiner to be the titan class release?

I got Leader Optimus yesterday, the main robot mode is great, and I love how involved the transformation from robot to trailer is. The truck cab is a horrible kibbly mess when viewed from any angle other than the front, it could do with a couple of extra panels on the sides to cover Orion's folded up arms at the back, though Orion's robot mode is a nice fun figure on his own.

I'm not Shocked and I'm not sorry for saying the obvious. We all seen this crap during various toy conventions last year. Prior to the CW line we've begged Hasbro for combiners and now they've gone overboard the the gimmick!

No one asked for combiner Starscream and I'm confident and saying that each Dinobot would've had better quality IF they weren't combiners either! I'm not even buying that Grimlock (FOC version will remain my placeholder).

Deluxe and Legends are the only standout in this line so far.

Having a Titan class Dinobot Combiner would have been reeeeally nice. Since Predaking will lack a similar sized opponent (in the original cartoon he got Sky Lynx, but its most recent version is way too small, even in its Sky Reign combined form), this new Combiner would have been perfect for the role.
Also a shame that Slash doesn't get involved in any way.

I get the impression Volcaniconiconiicus Volcanicus is a bit more poorly received because he's an 'unwanted' combiner, since the majority of the fanbase did not want/expect a combining Dinobot. I mean, from what I can gather, the CW torso weren't received anywhere as poorly as the PotP ones but was it really due to better engineering or just because the G1 Combiners got new toys?

I think it's more the Combiner gimmick is "too intrusive" on them? Swoop, Slag, Sludge and Snarl all seem to be perfectly made as limbs from the get-go, but Grimlock as a torso not so much. At this point we have Combiner fatigue, plus where's Piranacon?!

The Menaspr torso was hated just as much.

Maybe its because I got back into collecting with Titans Return and only got a few CW figures after the line ended. To me this isn't as 'tired' or 'played out'. As for Piranacon, I speculated waaay back that he's entirely doable within the PotP lineup as a late-wave combiner. In fact, looking at Grimlock I wonder if he couldn't be re-engineered into Snaptrap. Sure, it would be a heavy retool but not an impossible one. Well, either him or Hun-Grr. The rest of the Seacons' seafood-with-limbs-design is entirely doable with pre-existing and/or upcoming molds, such as:
  • Rippernsapper into Overbite and Scalor
  • Swoop or Cutthroat as Seawing
  • Blot heavily retooled to Tentakill
  • Nautilator as a new legends-class figure who turn into a gun

Maybe it's both? Forced combiners for the sake of gimmickry plus the looming threat of CW levels of mold reuse?

Could very well be. Though mold reuse has been less obvious, less numerous by Wave 3, and it's more Titans Return-style part sharing:

Metalhawk into Alpha Trion

Sludge shares with Slug
Cutthroat shares with Swoop

Starscream into Elita-1
Hot Spot into Inferno with redecos of Hun-Gurr's Engima and Combiner feet.

One gets the impression Hasbro did indeed drop the ball for the end of the Prime Wars trilogy and I suspect this is probably the result of poor planning/not knowing what the main gimmick of the last one should be, resulting in them mashing everything together in hope it works. That said, the fact we're at least getting (at least) two more pre-existing Combiners who didn't show up in CW is still a plus: Abominus and Predaking are 100% confirmed with Monstructor somewhat hinted by an odd Cutthroat-with-Wildfly-head and Piranacon as pure speculation right now.

Honestly, if they wanted to make Combiner Wars 2.0 they should just have done so, given that people complain about characters whose nature as a combiner torso make them weaker figures. Granted, Dinobot combiner is exactly where I'd go if I was Hasbro and realized most named combiners left are Decepticons. So, really, even in the hypothetical scenario I do think we'd have ended with a Dinobot combiner. Predaking as a regular CW combiner could have certainly filled waves and they could have potentially used him as a basis for a new combiner to fill the Autobots rank which brings me to the frankly wasted potential of a CW 2.0: we could have had entirely new stuff and saved all the bitching from 'waah they ruined a Starscream/Jazz' because at least it would have been a line upfront about doing unfinished or new combiner teams rather than use existing characters as combiner components, which was something which had already sat poorly with fans during Combiner Wars.

Of course this lead to the problem of Leader class figures not integrating with the gimmick when all you do are combiners, which is why I think they wanted to keep the TR elements with the Prime Masters, Enigma and Matrices. Which I do not one bit hate. But! But, one get the impression the planning was certainly poor and that PotP was the rushed finale since the leader evolution+not!powermaster gimmicks make one seriously wonder why the **** a Powermaster Optimus remake wasn't in this line. Had it been planned properly from the get go, he would have made more sense: that way a PM Optimus could have a proper Powermaster, same with Overlord and we'd have been spared the wonkyness that is Orion-Optimus Evolution.

But is there nonetheless a positive to PotP? Can it be salvaged or is it a doomed last dying grasp of a 'trilogy' which overtook the Generations line for years? Well, I do think so. Sure there is some mold reuse but so far it has been decent, with the Aerialbot reuse that are the Dreadwing and Darkwing duo. Whose still have their original gimmick relatively present (the Prime Masters doubling as Power Masters) and they combine with each others. Meaning these guys are perfectly valid as a duo to play with without needing them to be assigned to a torso. Their limb mode is a bonus, really. Abominus still looks promising and there are still chances we may see some unfinished combiners in the last waves, with early waves being a bit of a 'filler' aside from Dinobots and Terrocons. Oh and we got new Pretenders. Yay?

Seriously, my take out from all this is: PotP is not all doom and gloom or the worst toyline yet. There is good stuff in between the bad, even if its less solid than CW or TR.
