The current deal is good, not quite as sweet as the one I scored a few weeks ago, but still nice. I failed to report that, like most who purchased PotP Predaking, he is much more impressive in-hand than on any video or pics I've seen. I'm glad I have him.

I too lament, a little that Predaking and Devastator are not scaled to be roughly the same size as other CW/UW/PotP Combiners, but if next years Omega Supreme is also 18 inches tall (or slightly taller, but not 24 inches like the other two city bots), then I can partly excuse it.

Legends EX Metroplex and Grand Max are the big ticket items on my bucket list, with Big Powered and Greatshot being slightly less expensive. Sometimes price and availability dictate what I get next, not necessarily what I want the most.
Bucket/Want List: Botcon 2016 Customization Class Ratchet (G2 Deco), or Customization Class Ratchet (Marvel Comics Deco) **would also be willing to pay for an Unpainted Botcon 2016 Ratchet, TT Legends Fortress Head (only) with working Electronics

Wish List of Modern Combiners: Road Caesar, Monstructor & Dinoking (proper size to fiction), Landcross, Guard City, Battle Gaia, & G2 Defensor. Wish List of Titans:Metrotitan,Majin Zarak

Omega Supreme probably will be more in that height range, considering.

Sabrblade wrote:In all honesty, would people have minded so much if the standard size for Titan class had been the Devastator/Predaking height in the first place, rather than the 2+ feet tall height that Metroplex only had because of a shallow desire to make him taller than G1 Fort Max no matter what (a goal that was shortly undone when Fort Max himself took back the title of "tallest TF toy ever" when he got his own slightly-taller-than-Metroplex Titan figure)?

It wasn't just a shallow desire to make him taller than the original Fort Max, though. It was also about giving him something of the impressive size he has in fiction and also making him better able to act as a dollhouse/base for TFs bigger than the likes of the original Stunticon and Aerialbot toys. After all, "Dollhouse/base for other Transformers" is one of the main points of the cityformers, and of the original G1 cityformer molds only Fort Max is big enough to even remotely manage that for modern TFs larger than Legends-class.

Got my predaking today, and the combined mode is pretty cool, not sure why everyone is giving ironhide grief for having a cavity in his back when predakings actual abdomen is entirely empty, but whatever >:oP

The individual bots are alright, no one really stands out as being really great, but I think that that's a problem this whole set has, is a feeling of being really bland and diluted. This is the most watered-down predaking we could have ever gotten... Which is a shame cuz his design is all about dramatic flair, from the giant knuckle spikes to the samurai fanged mouth plate, to the giant wings and lion chest... but he doesn't have any of that, which basically robs him of most of his identity. Even the individual bots are all basic geometry as far as headsculpts go, but, once assembled, he's pretty great, if not a little boring :(

Uh.. the smeg are you talking about? :???: :???: :???: :???: :???: :-?
The only one of those things you mentioned that's missing here is the knuckle spikes. And his wings are in fact better at looking giant on him than the original toy's.

As for your comment on the headsculpts, by that logic MOST Transformer headsculpts are "all basic geometry". Looking at the photos, they're reasonably detailed in sculpt and accurate to the characters, so... *shrug*

Their beast modes don't gain too much in articulation compared to G1, true. And that much is a shame. But at least unlike Combiner Wars Devastator nobody wound up without elbows in robot mode.

Moving on to the positives, headstrong is great in bot mode, and I kinda came to a zen understanding with the beast mode kibble, that rhino's and oxen have a bulkier body than other mammals, so it kinda works, and since they can't really pose in beast mode (this killed rampage for me), I guess it doesn't matter... divebomb never doesn't look like a beached whale though his bot mode is awesome and looks decently intimidating standing up in beast mode. The combined mode is a beast of course, can't fault it other than what I've already said, it can throw some serious poses. And I appreciated the turning-inside-out transformations for a lot of the figures, it was different and clever.

We got our fill of complaining about Predaking's open box abdomen back when it was first revealed. It's still a bummer, but I can see why it was done that way the way it all folds out and it gives somewhere to tuck Razorclaw's legs into. It's somehow both annoying and clever at the same time. Ironhide, on the other hand, I'm not convinced yet that it was done as a necessary part of the transformation and appears to be just a cost cutting procedure.

Yeah, they did some extremely clever things with the transformations, and I have to say, rampages beast mode head is sublime

But even if I had the money, he's on the back burner for me for two reasons. A. Titans Return Trypticon and Generations Metroplex are higher-priority and B. His being Titan-class means he's too big to go with the CW-style combiners. Sure, the original Predaking toy was comparatively towering to the other G1 combiner toys, but that's because their individual members were largely midgets among the G1 toys (especially movie-onward, but even pre-movie characters tended to be bigger - just compare Breakdown to Sideswipe and Sunstreaker!) while the individual Predacons were more in scale (such as it was).
He's definitely awesome though, no doubts about that.

He functions as a Matrix Core for Predaking's Onyx Matrix. He's set in a Matrix holder (same sculpt as Optimus and Rodimus Prime's) which is placed in a special area behind Razorclaw's lion head.

Just Razorclaw? So he is technically a "Prime" then? Having a Matrix chamber that is. The backpack option and Volcanicus' chest mouth in my opinion don't count.

Who knows, Hasbro hasn't said anything about that. As a torso, Razorclaw bucks the norm by having a Matrix chamber instead of a regular spot for an Enigma (like Grimlock's mouth, Hun-Gurr's "backpack"/Abominus' chest and Starscream's nosecone), but the Onyx Matrix seems to fill a similar role for Predaking and by extension, all Beast Combiners given Onyx's status.

I kinda wish they'd given him an enigma with Animatron's symbol on it. That would have been a perfect fit IMO.

From everything I've ever read on Predaking, Takara brought in a guest designer who was given free rein to create. That's why the Predacons don't do Scramble City and the figure is so much bigger. If anything POTP Predaking is the only one that makes sense to be Titan Class.

Disagree. Since Omega Supreme is Devastator's rival, a Titan Omega (which none of us would have accepted less of) would need a Titan Devastator. Plus all constructicons should be voyager sized (decepticons are all around the same height for the most part) so we needed bigger individual bots which resulted in a Titan Devy.

That and Devastator most often fought against Omega Supreme and regular Autobots, rather than in combiner-on-combiner battles. It would be nice to also have a Supreme-class version for the sake of having said battles though (because using Titan Devy would result in "Bruticus devastate Devastator": The Outtakes). With Predaking you at least have the G1 toy, limited though it is (I at least think it'd be the right size)

One could make the argument that Omega Supreme, Devastator, and Predaking all ought to be at or near to the same height as the other Combiners, given how all three were roughly similar in height to said other Combiners back in the cartoon, as shown by Omega Supreme helping Superion fight Menasor, Bruticus beating Devastator (while Menasor beat Bruticus), and Predaking's numerous fights against Raiden (in The Headmasters) who himself was of similar height to all the other Combiners, even teaming up with Defensor and Computron once to destroy the Decepticons' Earth base, and even once fighting Bruticus.

Man, seeing all those pics makes me happy 8-) . I have always split on this. Ideally, I'd have wanted a Devastator, Predaking, and Omega Supreme that scale with the other CW Combiners. Even further, it would have been nice if somehow Hasbro could have made Predaking match the CW system of all the others, same with Dev, except Hook & Long Haul of course would both be deluxes and would not have cross-compatibility with all the others.

However, I am OK with what we have/what we are getting. Dev and Omega are classic Rivals, and so shall they be again. Hasbro's choice to make PotP Predaking a Titan Class toy makes little sense fictionally, or thematically, but it does make for one heck of a cool toy. ;)

Additionally problematic now however is Predaking's rivalry with Sky Lynx. In fiction, they were *roughly* the same size. Now Skylynx is the same size as just One Predacon. 8-}, even the mighty Lynx Master/Sky Reign pales in comparison .

Still, if we look beyond fiction, I personally, always wanted to see a battle between Omega Supreme & Predaking. It never really happened, in fact they never met on the battlefield aside from TF vs GIJoe The Art of War, and that was...a triple team off panel battle (figures they skip the best part... :BANG_HEAD: )

Of course you all know my greatest passion is combiners and Giant Transformers, so I can talk about this all day 8-)

It worked for Metroplex?! That's the one Titan (until now) that never even showed up in my state AND THEN jumped up in price. I only JUST got Metroplex a few weeks ago from someone that was selling at a reasonable price.

Anyhow. I got this. First time I haven't paid full retail for a Titan! ;)^

Caved and bought him. Had a discount that brought him down to $85.99 shipped.

They have PotP Nemesis Prime discounted to $33, but having spent so much today...
Check out my books, Titanomachies and Divine Retribution, on my blog!

Me thinks it's simply a misunderstanding, thanks to the technical difference between "and" and "or" when summing up things; Prime Masters, Enigmas and Matrix Cores are fully interchangeable, but AFAIK Predaking can't hold them all at once.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one
