Dino and Jolt, yes please. I’m really hoping Bee is a do-over of his VW design, the only thing I like about the current VW Deluxe is the fact I can give his blade to the blatantly superior Jeep Bee.

Yup. Literal mini-masterpieces. No Combining, no headmastering, no Trypophobia inducting ports everywhere. Budget Masterpieces, like the SS line is supposed to be.
You seriously have that big a problem with the C.O.M.B.A.T. ports? O.O In any case, I wouldn't get your hopes up about them not having those. I'm fairly certain the SS86 figures are WFC overflow

Also, I have to laugh at your saying the SS line is supposed to be mini-masterpieces. I mean sure, there's some figures that live up to that, but...

The problem with non-combiners being combiners and non-headmasters being headmasters is that they are not supposed to be. It doesn't really work for the characters. Plus the gimmick compromise the vehicle and the bot mode in some capacity.

Ironically, Legends Great Shot is superior to the TR Sixshot and the G1 Great Shot original BECAUSE he's a headmaster. In canon, he is so his headmaster gimmick make him perfect.

Also, same thing with too much 5mm ports. Some design compromises are done in the look to accommodate the holes. and too much holes make the figure look ugly.

As for the Bayformers SS figures, they ARE mostly mini-masterpieces. Especially compared to the old movie lines. There's some that are not perfect, sure. But most are pretty damn solid and accurate in their overall look.

Don't really agree, especially on the headmaster front. They're not required to be, but nothing says they can't be.

-Kanrabat- wrote:Plus the gimmick compromise the vehicle and the bot mode in some capacity.
I'll give you that... on some (though not all) of the combiners. The Headmasters, not so much. In fact, I find that gimmick enhances the altmodes. I like having the working interiors and a figure to place inside.

-Kanrabat- wrote:Ironically, Legends Great Shot is superior to the TR Sixshot and the G1 Great Shot original BECAUSE he's a headmaster. In canon, he is so his headmaster gimmick make him perfect.
Guess what? Greatshot wasn't a Headmaster until the Legends manga made him one - to promote that toy. And further guess what: The Legends manga did the same thing to the other newly-headmasterified characters! So if it's valid for Greatshot, why isn't it valid for them?

-Kanrabat- wrote:Also, same thing with too much 5mm ports. Some design compromises are done in the look to accommodate the holes. and too much holes make the figure look ugly.
Which figures would you point to as compromised, aside from Arcee's feet and Chromia not being a combiner? And I haven't seen a figure who had too many holes yet. I don't think they make a figure ugly any more than Mini-Con ports do - and they're less noticeable because of being recesses instead of protruding posts.

-Kanrabat- wrote:As for the Bayformers SS figures, they ARE mostly mini-masterpieces. Especially compared to the old movie lines. There's some that are not perfect, sure. But most are pretty damn solid and accurate in their overall look.
Rampage and Long Haul sure as heck aren't (you wanna talk toys compromised by being combiners? Behold), Jetfire fails to improve enough on the ROTF figure (Again, compromised by combining), the Optimus Primes try but they have shortcomings, ROTF Megatron falls short due to the missing tank mode fins, Movie 1 Megatron has ROTF Megatron's chest, Crankcase was completely FUBAR since they made him a Crowbar retool instead of using the Crankcase-based Berserker mold, Helicopter Dropkick.. enough said, and of course KSI Sentry and Shadow Raider are lazy redecoes; the former is hurt by it and the latter is just a "Buy this to get an alternate accessory for Lockdown" redeco.

I can understand wanting non-Headmaster versions of those guys. I've gotten used to them, but I also sprung for the Takara versions. It's about wanting the ideal version of whichever character is important to you.

The leaker on TFW has hinted at a ton of Beast Wars stuff, and mentioned a Studio Series Slag with Daniel set earlier today, before this listing showed up. I think I typed a summary of most of it a page or so back.

Given HasTak's propensity for repaints, I'd wager the odds of them showing up elsewhere is pretty good.

Found a summary. Not the right thread for it, so I'll post it in the Beast Wars rumor thread. In the meantime, here's the rest of his Studio Series leaks:

Voyager:
Scourge
Hot Rod w/sawblade and visor
He also said that Kup comes with some energon goodies.

To be fair, in The Rebirth (as in the comics) none of the Headmasters started as Headmasters, so narrative-wise what's one more character undergoing the conversion?
And making Arcee a Headmaster seems to have been another try at getting her a toy - there was a design proposal for making her as a redecoed Chromedome with a new head (since Hasbro had refused to invest in an outright new mold in 1986).

This is why in the Earthrise thread I said multiple times that doing Arcee as a modified Blurr was a lot better than doing her as a modified Chromedome.

Welp, if the rumors for Beast Wars figures in WFC 3 are true, and G1 being added to Studio Series is the price to pay, then I'm willing to pay it. Much as I enjoy the movie designs, I do find myself more hesitant to buy them for some reason.

On the plus side, having seen Scavenger, Scrapper, and Sentinel Prime at Wal-Mart recently, I have to say they look really good. Like, I'm genuinely starting to hate how much I love the Constructicons because I'm starting to think I might buy them all again so I can have them in bot mode, and combined

Stop wussing out on it, Hasbro. You've released Grotusque and you've released Misfire, so there's no excuse for not finally making Hot Rod screen-accurate magenta.

Even before rebirth the episode with arcee and others turning into humans justifies the figures being head masters. Plus the pilot compartment and cockpit improved the vast majority of the tr figures same with g1/diaclone that could fit pilots. I'd even say it improved cogmanand nitro zeus (even siege jetfire with his pilot compatability).

The combat posts have marred a few of the wfc figures but that doesnt relate to ss yet unless they implement them (my first thoughts on wfc redalert mentioned him looking like wheeljack took a drill to him whilst he was asleep, thanks to the drill accessory with centurion he probably did just do that).

That is jumping the gun a little. Putting The Movie into the Studio Series, doesn't equate a shift to G1. Unlike the bloated cast of Sunbow Season Two, aside from visual cameos and corpses, The Movie doesn't contain more than a dozen pre-Movie characters.
As for those previously discussed: BB, Cliffjumper, Jazz, Spike. They are all cameos as they don't do anything of note in the entire film. Aside from BB's automatic push to be included in Everything, HasTak don't have to include any of them. Two to three different variants of Junkion is more likely.

The Studio Series is based on Movies. Which is why you'll never see Animated, BW (hopefully), UT or anything other than figures from the theatrical releases.

Yeah it's likely 86 jazz unless they redeco the earlier SS Jazz. I'm sure Jazz was wiped out on the shuttle at the beginning of the movie though. They should carry the theme over from MPM Jazz and include the option to look like he's been blasted ;)

Yes, yes he did. He was also one of the Autobots featured in the "Transform and roll out!" escape sequence as Unicron is exploding.

Although on the note of MPM Jazz's damaged mode, this Jazz could just be a Studio Series "Final Battle Jazz" like we had in 2007.

ZW, methinks you need to watch the movie again. Clearly it's been too long :-P

Which ones do you consider to have an "overabundance"? I'm genuinely curious, because the one mold that comes to my mind as having a particularly high count is the SIEGE Seeker mold. Which leaves me with this nagging feeling I'm blanking on something.

blackeyedprime, did you think the same of what has to be at least half of the Prime Wars Trilogy Deluxes?

As far as WFC goes... the Sideswipe mold has the bare minimum 7 holes (feet, arms, lower legs, back), 2 of which are on the soles of the feet, only 3 of which are accessible in altmode, and on Red Alert one of those is typically tied up by the siren (leaving only 2 for altmode weapon mounting).

Motto: "Love it? GET IT!
It's that simple."
Weapon: Vibro-Axe
The Siege and ER seekers have the right amount of 5mm ports simply because it's a necessity for the missiles/null rays. The ones that have too much are the cars who look "damaged" and Optimus Prime, who have quite unsightly holes under his smokestacks.

And if you love too much holes on a Transformers, it mean you're a BAD person. [-( [-( [-(

I'm not going to lie, it has been a long time since I watched it. I do miss the killer soundtrack. There's a great freebie for the future, buy the '86 Movie soundtrack on Vinyl and get a free Studio Series '86 Blaster!
