It's a slur. It'd be like if they made a new fembot character named "Whore", or a new black repaint named the N-word.

Oh wow I just Googled it I had no idea! It's unfortunate that the characters original name is what it is. In my head I can recall transformers using the term similarly to "well thats just prime" as an "aw crap" kind of thing
Name change is completely understandable considering he's technically meant for kids. Slug it is

Exactly, plus its only a name change, one thats only on the box so what does it really matter if they change it? It's their product, they could change its name Mr Triceratops Mc Triceratops face for all I care. Its not a good look to complain about people getting offended by a word while getting offended that a company changed its own product name to another word.

Without starting a debate I definitely wouldn't equate that slur to the n-word. The latter is far worse, but I appreciate you speaking up. I never would've known otherwise what the name change was for

A SLUR? Where??? Certainly not in America. I Googled Slag & got "stony waste matter separated from metals during the smelting or refining of ore."

THAT is what his name is referring to. Because he breathes fire & melts metal. I didn't even see the slur. I don't know what the slur is & I don't even want to know.

Ya know?

....this world...

..just...

British english slang, roughly equivalent to 'piece of $#!*/douchebag' for guys and 'b!*^#/slut/whore' for women.

That's just great! The slur wins out over the actual meaning.

You know what? Slag is a triceratops, not a slug. I'm offended for all the poor triceratops out there & demand his name be changed again. HOW DARE YOU call a triceratops a slimy slug? What's that? Slug as in a bullet slug? No! No! We're going with the other meaning.

See how stupid that was?

And I have no problems calling the character by the original name in my head
But for children's sake, the name change needed to be done. It's not really fair to only give importance to murican language

Back on topic, they raised the prices. And they didn't even reveal SG Jetfire yet. That's the one I want the most.

I pre-ordered 2 Starscreams, 2 Sharkticons, 1 Wreck-Gar & 1 SlAg.

And most of them are hitting in October. I need to start saving now. I don't buy everything, I try to cherry-pick but I'm still buying a ton of stuff this year. I skipped half of Kingdom & thought I would be saving a ton of money in 2021. :(

And in the end I'm gonna want at least 4 Sharkticons.

As a French Canadian Québécois, I'm disappointed that no TF names have been changed to protect our feelings yet. Like, I dunno, a big mamma fembot named "Growsplott".

Who's "Slag" supposed to "insult" again?

British women.

But again, it's a name change on a box...what's it really matter? You're going to say call it Slag so why stress over what Hasbro call their product? I mean they can call all the Dinobots numbers if they really wanted to >:oP

Wow, That's really, really obscure (at least for me).
Guess I'll use that Dinobot as ammo for my shotgun then!

Hey, why not call him Slur, the swearing and cursing Dinobot?

When the Beast Wars and Animated cartoons aired over in the UK, their frequent usages of the word "slag" as an interjection had to be edited out, hence why the TF: Prime and RID 2015 cartoons introduced the new interjections "Scrap!" and "Scrud!", respectively.

Meanwhile, the word "slug" also refers to a punch or hitting something, which fits for Slag since he has been known to slug a few Decepticons in his day. ;)

My only issue with the word Slug is that it is really close to Sludge. But, as it works better as a worldwide name, I am fine with it. And yes, in this context, I am guessing they are going after the word for a punch. Given that Slug is the more violent of the Dinobots (despite being based on an herbivore), the name fits him quite well.

People are going to have to get over the name change. Slag as his name is pretty well gone forever.

Heh, when spoken in Japanese, the English words "Slag" and "Slug" sound identical.

Ah, well... nothing we can really do
However this stuff is revealed and leaked, im just happy with all the really cool figures
Easy for me to say that though since I don't currently own or collect any of the traditional SS figures

For the sake of bayverse collectors though (and my wallet) I hope the shoe will be on the other foot soon enough. Unless there are more stimulus checks on the horizon lol

Here's a funny thing. I never bothered to buy the original Blackout. I watched the reviews & I didn't like his hands & how the rotors didn't spin freely. I really didn't feel like wasting even more money on an upgrade kit. So time passed, I kinda forgot about him & then he was gone from store shelves. So in the past couple months I got the itch to go back & get him. But now with Grindor coming out with possibly improved hands, everything worked out great. I don't really care if it's Blackout or Grindor, I just want a copy of the mold.

And now that the price will be back down to normal retail, I might buy 2 & make a custom Whirl.

It sucks that they didn't reveal him today but hopefully he'll be fully leaked real soon.

Also, when I hear "slug" I don't think of a bullet or a punch. I think of a slug, the snail with no shell. So that's why the name change really bothers me. They changed his name from 1 type of creature to another. I wish they changed his name to something related to fire or a flamethrower.
