That would put me off from buying him brand new. Sadly, you're probably right. F**k sqweeks.
Hey, I liked Sqweeks and the big cannon that turned out to be built into his replacement arm was a great bit.
And Mohawk either has to have things bundled in with him or be bundled with somebody else, because this line doesn't do the Legends class. He could be bundled in with Slash at the Voyager price point maybe.
I thought Sqweeks was a fun new character and the figure we got is pretty nice. I'd like to see a SS version less the trailer (parts/plastic count) to fully realize the character in plastic. I felt there were a few compromises in the premiere version, like his arms not turning into his handlebars and maybe less partsforming. Also less **** streaks, had to bust out the alcohol to clean him up.

My first thought was also a multipack of lil guys, but that gives each figure even less to work with.

I've seen a pretty cool 3P Mohawk floating around out there at a pretty decent price.

I figured I'd drag this here to not sidetrack another thread. Obviously I'm not a movieverse fan, but I like cool toys. For me more articulation in the arms and "tail" would be a vast improvement. Posing that guy is a real challenge. Would there be any other changes to make Rampage more screen accurate/fun/mo betta?

I dunno, a few other people have mentioned this before and I think it's doable. All they'd have to do is:
-Remove the second pair of arms, retool shoulders, use their plastic/mass to make his remaining arms all Cloverfield-y
-New head
-Retool/reshell alt mode, since the alt modes are basically the same in terms of proportion (and Hasbro is never going to spoil us with a working missile section on this guy's alt mode)
-Use the plastic/mass previously dedicated to the Vortex Grinder part to make the gun
-If necessary, retool out/remove any joints/mechanisms that were necessary only for combining to use that plastic elsewhere (gun/alt mode shell/arms)

The legs are basically the same, they have very similar proportions in both modes that I can't unsee, they clearly don't make the figures based 100% on concept art given some design choices with Constructicons, and I don't have enough faith in Hasbro to think that they'll make this guy as his own original mold or even at all without parts sharing like Shockwave's Megatron bits. Disagree if you like, but "are you listening to yourself" is a bit much.

Nemesis Primal wrote:they have very similar proportions in both modes that I can't unsee,
Not in robot mode they don't! Take a look again at how far Devcon's hindlegs are from his forelegs - he either has a long torso or long upper back legs, whereas Overload is squat. The forelegs are entirely different from any of Overload's arms.
Nemesis Primal wrote:they clearly don't make the figures based 100% on concept art given some design choices with Constructicons,
The choices with the Constructicons are mainly based on the needs of the Devastator combo, which isn't a factor with Devcon. Plus a number of designs were never seen in robot mode in the film - which is NOT the case with Devcon.
Nemesis Primal wrote:and I don't have enough faith in Hasbro to think that they'll make this guy as his own original mold or even at all without parts sharing like Shockwave's Megatron bits. Disagree if you like, but "are you listening to yourself" is a bit much.
Parts sharing, I'll grant you. But so much of him is different that it would be minor parts sharing at most (perhaps even less than what Shockwave and ROTF Megs share). The truck is completely different and his limbs largely form different bits of it, he has more wheels than Overload, his forelegs are completely different from Overload's arms so they would have to be new, the head and torso would need to be new, the weapon would need to be new... So much new tooling would be required that they may as well be making a new mold. Especially since, now that I think of it, parts recycling is probably contingent on the source mold's layout.
It also occurs to me that his transformation might require he be at a different scale in altmode than Overload, which would further impair parts-reuse possibilities.

I think part of the problem with Devcon is that he never transformed in the film and had a total of 18 seconds of screentime, while also being in the background of almost every shot he was in, so the exact details of his appearance are kinda vague. We only know his alt mode from this concept art and the concept art isn't super helpful with the bot mode, since you can't see the whole thing and I think he has two right arms given the tire placement. To me, the legs look the same as Overload's but backwards, I've no real idea what his chest looks like, he probably has a similar transformation scheme of his arms becoming the back half-ish of the truck with the torso and legs forming the front, and the proportions look the same since he's 65% arms with similarly shaped alt modes (Overload just has multiple arms where Devcon has long arms), but to you or someone else it may differ since we don't have an exact statement of He Looks Like This.

Also I think in the movie he had two smaller chest guns, rather than the cannon on the concept art, so turning the Vortex Grinder part's plastic allotment into those would be easier than that one big one.

Finally got to open up Shockwave!

I'll post more thoughts and pics later, but here's some initial thoughts:

- I like it! Molding is great, the robot mode is spot-on accurate
- Holy moly, Brains and Wheelie are really tiny. I had heard all the stuff and seen the pictures, but in person it was still surprising. I like that though, they're in-scale and a neat inclusion.
- The rubber really doesn't bother me except for the blade.
- At least initially he seems kinda small. I haven't had it next to any of the other SS figures yet though, so I'll probably have more on that later.
- The vehicle mode is a little all over the place, I feel like the big thing for me is the hand not folding away, but it has some neat things to it like the cannon power cores looking like thrusters on the back and the Megatron-style head peaking out.

I also haven't looked at the paratrooper yet but I like that they included it and I really want more human figures in studio series.

Also, Zelda, I'm finally back so I can get you those measurements on SS Prime soon!

So, my top-five most-wanted characters for the Studio Series line? In no particular order...

5. the Fallen.
4. Que/Wheeljack.
3. Dino.
2. Frenzy in some form.
1. A pack of the major humans from the movies-Sam, Mikaela, Carly, Simmons, Lennox, Epps, and Charlie at least.

I never got SS Grimlock when he was in stores, I always thought he was bland and ugly. Yeah, he was like that in the movie as well, so technically he was accurate, but I wouldn't have liked looking at him on my shelf. He looked like he was hefty and massive, though. I remember his legs had to be bent just to fit him in the box.

I much prefer SS Grimlock's look to that of the AOE Leader. He looks like a savage stone giant or a golem guardian of an ancient temple from some fantasy series.

And like I said earlier in the thread, I made him into an all new character named Lockjaw.

SS Grimlock is beautiful. Better sculpt and proportions, a nice patina'd silver deco right out of the box... A shame he can't retract or detach the mace ball to reveal a normal hand (since he does have one at some points in the movie), and doesn't have the larger mace, but he's still glorious and I want him. And the Dinobots were the best designs in AoE.

Someone should show Grimlock tossing Scavenger around.

Here's something that would be good if they get to Grindor, if it's possible: Omitting the Scorponok, and including a couple of hooks for Optimus.

Big delivery day today, got SS Grimlock, Jet Shatter and Roadbuster )plus some ER stuff). Grimlock looks beautiful but the back robe(?) Part just wont stay up in dino mode which is unfortunate, also the front of the hip skirt pops off very easily.

I'm underwhelmed by Jet Shatter but I knew I would be. I'm not really keen, and am gutted the heads aren't swappable. She is also very bulky in the back (not back heavy, but will take up space).

Roadbuster is gorgeous. I am very happy with how he turned out, only wish he had more holdable weapons, but the little minigun isn't too bad!

Very satisfied!

Well, painting Shockwave didn’t take much, just added a few gold highlights here and there.
BFC3C68B-51BC-449E-8D33-B762AEFC852E.jpeg

Shockwave’s vehicle mode is actually growing on me, and looking at it next to the other SS figures, It scales pretty well. Could maybe be a little taller, but pretty close.

But that’s not all!

I acquired SS Soundwave recently, and I got unlucky with the QC. The piece his head is attached to had to have some plastic shaved off to be able to fully rotate into place for robot mode, there were scratches in the paint out of the box, and there’s a pin missing that connects the rear windshield to the rest of the roof. The first 2 were easy fixes though, and I’ll see if I can figure out something to replace the pin. After having it for a little while though, I do like it! The car mode is great, the robot mode is a little short but the detail is awesome, particularly on the forearms with the speakers.

Spent a chunk of today getting Soundwave painted up, thankfully unlike Barricade the rubbery plastic is taking well to the paint!

Crazy to have an actual DOTM Soundwave all these years later!

Di Bonaventura is not a credible or trustworthy source. And most fans do like the diversity push, thanks.

A little late, but here's my want list:

5. Voyager The Fallen (RotF)
4. Leader Junkheap trio (AOE)
3. Voyager Galvatron (AOE)
2. Voyager Jet Hatchet preferably or Deluxe SUV Hatchet (DotM)
1. Dinobots, any and all

Motto: "Earthrise restock or riot"
Well, the Fallen would need to be a Leader (perhaps balanced out with accessories) to scale right with Jetpower Optimus.
Mind you, thanks to the shrinkage of modern toys... the old ROTF/HFTD Voyager mold is about the right size for that - I've seen photos on TFW2005. It's a rather screen accurate sculpt, and thanks to the HFTD retooling it even has the staff (and a detachable face)... So they could just dig that mold out and reissue it in screen-accurate colors.
WANT:
* Cybertron Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Cyb Jetfire R gun and missile
* RiD Galvy dragon head, beast arms
* DotM Ironhide windshield, R hood assy.
* ROTF Jetfire R JTFR panel
