Agreed bodrock!

What makes a toy an excellent toy?

The original Sixshot was a brick. The JP anime gave him a rep as a b@stard creep who found redemption in the end hence he seems to have a fan following demographic.'nuff said on his appearance in The Rebirth.

I own both original JP original and the Hb version (back to my first paragraph...the original was a brick). So the issues that were not so apparent during his brick days has somewhat surfaced as an unintended consequence.

Instability/floppiness in his tank mode with the legs folded up. This wasn't the case in the G1.

No knee/leg ratchets. Hence getting him to pose is kinda tricky. So depending on your figure's mileage.

Why this wasn't dealt with during the design phase is beyond me.

The headmaster gimmick was kinda forced ( getting the headmaster off required you to have light fingers else you risk chipping off the paint apps. ) but hey, it's the current rerun fad now for Hb.

And thanks to the popularity (?) of TF G1 themed releases, we get an updated version of the brick. For that I am thankful (and I'm gonna get the Takara version too as Hb versions are already an expected fact that it caters to a certain price point demographic as opposed to the JP one). Also, an old adage that clothes do make a man, some previous Hb releases when given the Takara "bling" treatment makes a swan out of an ugly duckling. It not necessarily covers up the design flaws but makes a figure more...............acceptable.

I won't be calling this figure the greatest release since MP IH/Ratchet or even MP WJ. Masterpiece aside, the engineering applied to the former is amazing. Sixshot on the other hand, well, the transform sequence has already been designed for him nearly 30 years ago. Why fix what isn't broke? (But forgot the ratchets again 8-}, kinda reminds me of Hm Skullcruncher though his thigh issues are much much worst )

So for those on the fence, I will not "discourage" you from buying this figure. He ain't perfect but he ain't a turd too. There are much much worst figures in the TF line being released. If I got a complaint, the upcoming Quickswitch release  . He should have been Greatshot.

P.S.

What is it with ratchets anyway? Does the cost quadruple when included in a figure's design?

At least when G1 had stickers a good portion of the time the stickers had a special spot cut out to place them in so they could be placed properly and wouldn't catch at the edges as much.

I have not heard so many complaints about other or earlier stickers as often the only similar really bad sticker i'd say were some from around the Headmaster era that had a tendency to have the decoration rub off.

---------

I was under the impression Hasbro confirmed Scorponok was the next Titan at Toyfare. ( I would hope they conspire with Hasbro to allow Black Zarak to be made too) especially if they do something for Asia like Mega Titan or Grand Maximus or Brave Maximus too (ideally a Global TRU exclusive would be great) and a new Autobot in 2018 would be something nice to have with Trypticon, Devastator and Scorponok on the cards and if they still want to do Omega Supreme that wouldn't be until 2019.

Especially as they may shove in some sort of Unicron Titan in there some place too. Perhaps that is one of the reasons Metro Titan hasn't happened yet... I think he's be ideal for any time they do more Micromasters as he'd fit the theme well.

Scorponok wasn't confirmed, I'm afraid. We just know he and Omega Supreme are coming because they were on the poll and hence they must have had designs ready and they must be on the cards.

Reason Metrotitan hasn't happened yet is because approximately only 12 people in the world know who he is. Sorry to say, but he's just far too obscure a character to warrant a Titan-class release even as a simple redeco. We didn't even get G2/Europe Devastator, Grand Maximus or RiD Fort Max.

I just like his colours and the reason I keep bringing him up was because he was essentially a Base for Micromasters and I want some more Micromasters some time. and I think he'd fit.

I'm not of the mind set to think the only reason to release something is because it was in the 1984/85 cartoon series - I also judge play value too and in terms of play value I think Metro Titan linked up to Trypticon and one crewed with new Micromasters and the other with Titanmasters & their vehicles would be tremendous fun - as you know I actually play with my toys.

------
Six shot isn't out in the Uk quite yet - though he's starting to show up in Europe and he is listed on SMYTHS toystore's site so he's kinda "new" here at least.

---

One way to make Black Zarak is to redecorate the Combiner Wars Armada Megatron Leader toy perhaps add a Titanmaster head to it and a helmet cover and then it would be a homage to the OTFCC toy Mega (Black) Zarak which was based on Armada Megatron too.

just a thought anyway.

---------
As for Jazz I was suggesting Nightbeat as a partial pre-mould of Jazz as I really just want another Jazz and I want a Nightbeat and him being a pre-mould of jazz might be an excuse to see him made - and I thought it would make a nice change of pace as they are both Porsches - I could have suggested Skystalker too - but I think that would confuse the general Public as t o why a car is called Skystalker. and I very much doubt they'd want to do Frenzy or Blowout but I'd be just as happy with Blowout as a pre-[paint for jazz if I'm honest.
I just fancied a change from Stepper/Ricochet is all.

I wouldn't be adverse to being left field with Jazz and making hims group C Le man endurance racer type car instead of a 935 type of Porsche (or similar shape).

I got to thinking about mixing up the alt modes a bit after Rescue Bots Bumblebee got some pretty bizarre modes like a Dinosaur, a Motorcycle and an F1 car. or how Bolder is getting a spiffy Monster Truck mode and he also was a dump truck and a triceratops.

So for example how about just for a change Jazz is a racing car of another kinds, and Mirage is a more sports car like race car.

Remember Speed-Bot from Transformers Playskool Gobots ? - he had a huge variety of race car modes and I thought that made him rather interesting.

Perhaps I'll elaborate on that another time as it's quite an extensive topic.

-------

As for Fort max custom Base modes - I quite like to have his repair bays open and have them either face up or face down. I sometimes use the legacy shoulder joint from Metroplex to give him a solo tower or put the sword in his hand to make a tower.

------------

RTS Jazz is very nice UNITED Jazz is even better though.
Just be aware the pegging of his back takes a bit of specialist knowledge to get it to work correctly (at the cost of some of his waist movement).
The G2 Boxed set version is sometimes on sale cheap if that is "good enough" for anyone who lacks him. He's a toy that I've never put away since his release - the only issue with him is there might be some Q quirks that can lead to his windows being really hard to unpeg from car mode - or he might have loose knees..
It's a good point though I can't think of a good reason to not simply reissue the RTS Jazz either... But then I have the same thought every time Takara or Hasbro releases a Bumblebee that isn't the battle Blade one.

Speaking of wishlisting, I wish we'd get a Thunderblast from TR. The original toy has some weird porportions (leeeeeeeeeeegs) and commands a stupid amount of money on Evilbay. A (hypothetical) new mold could have the boat shell incorporate a few more hinges to get out of the way a bit better, whilst the actual body could take advantage of the shellformery nature and hopefully be highly articulated by virtue of most of the vehicle mode being a set of wings- imagine a reasonably intricate boat shell folding around a more "traditional" action figure body. Without the cyber key gimmick, the rocket launcher could possibly have a TM seat (hopefully with a folding cover ala Hardhead) and the boat mode would have two seats for TMs side by side. Plus, a teeny tiny Thunderblast driving her speedboat mode would be adorable.

I mean, it's never gonna happen, but I can dream.

And I made a very lame realization last night that checks off one of the names on the rumor list: Thunderclap.

I think it was in a different thread that we were discussing possible meanings of Japanese names (I think they should be left as is, especially in katakana) and one name that popped up is Ginrai or ジンライ jinrai. Taken at pure phonetic value, it has several meaning depending on the Kanji it came from. In the case of 迅雷 jinrai it means "thunder clap".

We're getting a Super Ginrai redeco named Magnus Prime, right? My guess is that "Thunderclap" will be the name of his Titan Master, referencing Ginrai.

Why are we talking about early toy reviewers now? Sixshot has been out worldwide for 2 months now. Its only early from a US perspective. And quite frankly it isn't an excellent toy. Do you have him sillyspringer? Because I think you should really wait until you do to pass judgement. Complaining about complainers is still complaining and is just as annoying.
Wait till you have the figure and then figure out if you like the toy or not.

My point is that people are too soon to review the toy before giving it enough time to figure out how things work. E.g. Tformers.com. I'm not saying it's the most incredible quality toy as far as tolerances and whatever because I don't have it. My point is that something like that which has 6 FRIGGIN MODES should get a LITTLE more respect than the nitpicky people who refuse to play with it long enough to figure out how to even properly review it. As far as design and engineering, it's a friggin glorious piece that a lot of effort was put into to make it look as good as possible. The joints? Don't ask me.

thats really not the case. You are going to be sorely dissappointed if you hold him up to thst standard and you really ahould wait until you have hik in hand to give him such a great review.
I had him. He is a simple run of the mill leader class toy from the gen line. Not better than PM Prime or Blaster but not worse either. Thete are a ton of things designers could have done to make it better. His tank turret locking in anywhere would have been nice. There was way more effort and skill put in the 3 step RID grimlock than in this toy, from a designer standpoint, and that is a documented fact.
Looking forward to Cobo and Bodrock"s thoughts on the figure and all its modes.

While Aaron Archer's team (the team responsible for Titan Metroplex) didn't know who Metrotitan was, I wouldn't quite rule out John Warden's team being quite as oblivious to the character's existence just yet, what with how obscure they've gone for JG1 characters in Titans Return.

This isn't to say that they might give us Hasbro Metrotitan, mind, but if we were to ever get a Hasbro Metrotitan, chances are it would come from the team that knows about the likes of Lione, Shuffler, Jack, White Leo, the Dianauts, and the physical differences between Mega's and Giga's Suit Modes. ;)

Sabsie and friends, sorry for my dumb dumb here, but who is Metro Titan again? A mostly IDW concept, correct? The one that got woken up in IDW RID? During the whole Dark Cybertron cross over thingy, yeah?
He's never had a toy either, correct? My IDW knowledge is spotty at best.

The answer is two-fold, oddly enough.

The name comes from the Japanese G1 series Zone, from a redeco of Metroplex:

Image

Early fan speculation had him as a "zombie Metroplex", none of which is true. He's just another baddie added to the mix, in fact one of only two Destron sets released in Zone!

The concept of the Metrotitan body type is all IDW, though.

Metrotitan was originally a Japanese G1 Decepticon redeco of Metroplex from 1990. He was part of the Transformers: Zone line as the only large-sized Decepticon toy in the whole line, and one of only two Decepticon releases sold in the whole toyline (the other being the Micromaster Race Car Patrol Team).

He was later integrated into IDW's G1 comics universe with a different role than his original Decepticon role.

AWESOME! I've never seen that re-deco before. He's super cool! Glad to know there is some toy precedence for the character. Micromasters/Zone is kind of the last nook of the toy world I need to dig into and verse myself with.

But since I'm responsible for driving us off topic here, let's get back to Titan Returns.
I just popped open Six Shot, haven't even begun to transform him, but I will say one positive. He has the best helmet/Titan Master integration of any leader so far. Lots of good poseability in the neck and the helmet is a nice tight fit with no wonky proportions.

The knees on the other hand are gonna need a little more investigation on my part.

As for buying him, don't let the peeves you have/or others telling you otherwise to discourage you from getting him if you really want him.

From a Takara biased collector, I give Sixshot a 4 out of 5 (this includes the ratchet issues). If he got the Takara bling, I give him 4.5 out of 5. The ratchets or lack of it are the real issues imho.

Spasma is basically a normal Headmaster, just with the bot face on the back of his legs so he wouldn't be too difficult. The odd one is Krunk who is completely unconventional, they'd either have to work out a new transformation to keep him close to the original or I suspect they'll take a cue from Crash Bash and use the TM to fill in the gaps of a flip out dino "helmet".

Sorry to say, but he's just far too obscure a character to warrant a Titan-class release even as a simple redeco. We didn't even get G2/Europe Devastator, Grand Maximus or RiD Fort Max.
While Aaron Archer's team (the team responsible for Titan Metroplex) didn't know who Metrotitan was, I wouldn't quite rule out John Warden's team being quite as oblivious to the character's existence just yet, what with how obscure they've gone for JG1 characters in Titans Return.

This isn't to say that they might give us Hasbro Metrotitan, mind, but if we were to ever get a Hasbro Metrotitan, chances are it would come from the team that knows about the likes of Lione, Shuffler, Jack, White Leo, the Dianauts, and the physical differences between Mega's and Giga's Suit Modes. ;)

Oh of course - they're going a lot more obscure now which is beautiful and I love it and I really hope they continue. I'm just saying that I kiiiiinda doubt they'll apply that obscurity to the Titan class.

Talking of Apeface and Snapdragon - and really sorry if this seems like I'm being a debbie downer - but I've recently thought of the possibility that the rumoured Apeface and Snapdragon in that rumour list... could simply be a Titan Master Snapdragon alongside a re-issued Titan Master Apeface, in much the same way the rumour list said Nightbeat and Skytread only for us to get re-issues of their Titan Masters.

I was thinking the very same thing. Nightbeat and Flywheels were re-released in the Shuffler & Repugnus wave, and Crashbash's drone vehicle resembles Snapdragon a bit.

Yeahhh, the sad truth is that we're probably not going to get proper updates of those two, which is really quite disappointing - from the very beginning it seemed like the entire Voyager class was built around these two! In retrospect, it seems like Hasbro just wanted to do a line where all Voyagers were Triple-Changers in order to get out the rest of the "regular" ones, and it just so happened that it coincided with the Titan Master gimmick which made it seem "obvious" that Apeface and Snapdragon were coming.

Though I still hold out hope that we may see one or both in the other two box sets (have those been confirmed yet, by the way? Or are they just 'all-but-confirmed' like Blitzwing and Octane were for quite a while?), I've basically given up hope of seeing Apeface and Snapdragon as Voyagers at regular retail. I guess I wouldn't mind too much if we got a TM Snapdragon to go with Apeface, as long as it's a new/retooled mold and not just another Crashbash. Crashbash is set to become the Dead End of the line at this rate.

(And hey, if we do just get a Titan Master Snapdragon, at least then we won't be "splitting up teams"! )

The other two boxsets are "basically confirmed" with the promise of Wingspan and Cloudraker. The other 8 figures (2TM, 2D, 2V, 2L) are still a mystery.

I wouldn't personally rule out the hope for Voyager Apeface and Snapdragon completely, despite what I said - I still feel it's a distinct possibility. The last wave of CW surprised us by coming up with a completely unique and new mold (Sky Lynx) completely out of nowhere, and given Wave 5's Voyagers are minor retools, I'm fully expecting Wave 6's Voyager(s) to be completely new.

I was simply pointing out that the rumour instead being about Titan Masters is a distinct possibility now we have the precedent of TM re-issues.

Personally I'm hoping CrashbashSqueezeplay and Terri-BullHorri-Bull get re-released. I need to catch up on smaller Headmasters.

Oh, that's true! I'd totally forgotten about Sky Lynx, and it is true that the Wave 5 Voyagers being minor retools might indicate a greater likelihood of new molds (or at least extensive/engineering retools a la Hot Spot to Onslaught) in Wave 6. Either way, I'll be happy to have a Snapdragon to go with Apeface, be it as little Titan Master buddies or hulking Voyagers. Though I still remain somewhat unconvinced that they'll get Voyager figures (in this line at least, who can say beyond that), those are some good points that keep me hoping maybe it will be the case after all!

What can I say, I'm an optimistic pessimist.
