What do you think? I know you were a big fan of T30 Jetfire.

I am, and I remain a huge fan of that Jetfire.

This is a great toy too. And he's big, it's great to have an imposing toy like this that is 1 unit that is fun to swoosh around! i think he will go down in my collection as Skyfire, so he and Jetfire can coexist together

I ended up doing the same thing once I couldn't find any takers for the T30 version on ebay.

I did that too, but my reasoning was probably different than yours. I was disappointed with that figure so much I didn't even bother with the extra stuff. And I even got it half price from Amazon. It was worth $40, but no more. Too simple for such as large figure and too many open gaps in jet mode. Turned around and sold it 2 days later to someone on here and got my money back. Then I used the money to buy a T30 Jetfire to get a big Jetfire in my collection.

"Too simple for such a large figure" does not compute when applied to SIEGE Jetfire. He has a decent amount of intricacy, without being unnecessarily complicated. He's not a Bayformer, after all, so there's such a thing as too much complexity in his case.

You want to throw the phrase "too simple for such a large figure" around, I'll give you something it accurately describes:
Image
This big bozo. That huge, and yet the only significant change in articulation from the Voyager is that the pectoral guns move. His hands are still just blocks with sculpted fingers and 5mm holes! Now there's "too simple" for you.

I just don't see how, even with the gaps in SIEGE Skyfire's jet mode, you can consider him worse than T30 Jetfire, a figure that has a level of poor integration on par with ROTF Jetfire despite being a noncombining toy of a G1 character.

We went round and round over this a while ago, and my opinion hasn't changed. I think Siege Jetfire is a crappy figure for his size and price. It's my opinion, end of story. Yours and many other people's opinikn is different and that's fine. Not everyone sees things the way you do.

Because, and hear me out here, he has different tastes than you.

And I really kind of agree with him. T30 Jetfire is a far superior toy. He just isn't cartoon accurate. That is why I love Seige JetSkyfire so much, solely because of cartoon nostalgia.

It is not a $80 toy, not even close.

I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't really feeling that opinion until I saw what they did with sky lynx, it can't just be me, but sky lynx seems to have a way higher parts count than jetfire; which really make jetfire now feel like a $60 toy that was used to test whether there was an audience for the commander class, and sky lynx is the one to prove what the size class can do
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

Here's the thing: Jetfire/Skyfire, being a reskinned Macross Valkyrie, is a single-bodied humanoid Transformer whose legs, chest, and to a lesser degree arms, all have a straightforward disposition in vehicle mode. Sky Lynx is a Transformer who is made up of two separate components each with their own separate bestial robot mode that then combine to make a large, quadrupedal robot mode; I think there's more inherent complexity to him even without the base mode, just from all the extra joints his neck and beast limbs need to articulate (his transformations themselves aren't that complex from the look of it). And SIEGE Jetfire does have intricacies to his transformation that you wouldn't expect given the base design.
SIEGE Jetfire is an $80 toy because he is of comparable mass (from what I've read, mass is the biggest governing factor on prices; engineering doesn't make as much of a difference unless it's aggressively simplified like with Cyberverse) to, and within the same minimum complexity range, as Armada Unicron and Cybertron Primus, who were $50 toys in 2003 and 2005 but would be $80 toys today because of prices creeping upward even as Transformers on average diminished in mass beginning around Dark of the Moon. SIEGE Jetfire's price is but a symptom of that underlying phenomenon.

As far as I'm concerned, T30 Jetfire is a horrendous joke. In one mode at least, he is cartoon accurate... which is his utter undoing. The integration level is just as low as Revenge of the Fallen Jetfire, all because he stupidly tries to have both the G1 cartoon robot mode and the Macross jet mode. :-x Calling him a superior toy to the SIEGE figure is like calling Earthrise Arcee superior to T30 or Animated Arcee. T30 Jetfire is, IMO, inferior to not only the SIEGE version, but the Classics Voyager version, the Titanium Series version, and the redeco of Legends of Cybertron Thundercracker. That is how low he rates in my book. If he had been a hybridized design like the Classics figure, or a redesign like the Titanium Series, or a reinvention I would find him to be a better toy. But instead he tries to be two contradictory designs at once, and ends up a mess...

Somewhat more on topic for this thread: Has anyone else ordered from a China-based seller recently? What's the shipping time been like?

My grandmother was late with my birthday present (my birthday is December 3) and she remembered it just last friday and gave me some money as a present. The day after i snagged SIEGE Brunt at a local store while spending time with my friend. I like him for 2 reasons

*He reminds me of the Centurion Drones from the IDW Stormbringer story.
*And he also reminds me of Tankor in robot mode.

Only downside, he can't mount his cannon over his shoulder so he's stuck using it as a "galvatron/megatron" style as others call it

Well I’d say I’ve definitely had some good fortune lately. I found Studio Series movie 1 Bumblebee, Soundwave, and the Triplets at my local Target.

BB is just dandy, but Soundwave is definitely superior. He’s an amazing little grey troll of a Decepticon. I don’t think I’ve liked a SS Deluxe this much since Jazz. Arcee, Chromia, and Elita-1 are pretty much what I thought they’d be, so I’m pretty pleased by them.

The real awesome thing was that my mom came by my house one morning last week, and told me she found Studio Series Scavenger and Shockwave! What a surprise! Even though I know he reuses parts from SS Megatron, I was still surprised by how simple Shockwave’s transformation is. He’s still an amazing looking toy, and fun, so I’m not at all disappointed. Just wish he didn’t have all the soft rubber parts...

Scavenger is literally the best TF toy that rides around on one wheel ever made. I absolutely adore this toy on every level!

Well, it's a mainline toy. So safety issues are a major concern. Plus the advantage of the soft rubber parts are that they will only bend, not break off.
Seriously, when you go for adults-only collectibles, especially 3P stuff, some parts can be MURDER. Like this ass below that I used to own:

No, he's what used to be a $50 toy... turned into an $80 toy by inflation. He has not only the same height but the same heft and mass as a Unicron Trilogy Supreme-class toy. Which were $50 in their day, but now..
Similarly, the likes of Cybertron Leader-class Optimus and Megatron, or the Movie 1-3 Leader-class figures were $40-$45 in their day, but nowadays they'd be $60-$70.

To me, the difference between those figures and Jetfire is that they were somewhat more complex as well as looked better. Jetfire is simple and looks bland. All those figures you mentioned, line them up and place Jetfire next to them and see how bad he looks. Especially next to RoTF leader Prime. The reason leader Prime cost so much was because he has a lot of intricate small parts that require a lot of different molding. Jetfire doesn't have those, nor a premium paint job like Prime does, and thus shouldn't cost as much.

I have placed Jetfire next to all those figures (at least, those that I own), and he has a lot more complexity than you're crediting him with. :-x The way you talk about him, you'd think he had a transformation as simple as a Minibot or one of those little bootleg Valkyries you see in convenience stores... and that just simply isn't the case. I gave a breakdown in the other thread. I also don't think he looks bland. Well, aside from the faction sigils.
Rodimus Prime wrote:Especially next to RoTF leader Prime. The reason leader Prime cost so much was because he has a lot of intricate small parts that require a lot of different molding. Jetfire doesn't have those, nor a premium paint job like Prime does, and thus shouldn't cost as much.
 ROTF Leader Prime cost $45 at the time of his release, a mere $5 up from the $40 that Cybertron Leader-class figures cost, and chiefly cost that much because of his size class. Because that is how Transformers have been priced since the Beast Era: By size. If having all those intricate small parts was the main factor in the price, then ROTF Leader Megatron and DOTM Leader Ironhide would have been notably cheaper than him. But they weren't. They were priced the same, because they were the same size.
As for comparing SIEGE Jetfire to ROTF Optimus Prime..
1. Again, Jetfire has a more complicated transformation than you think. I would put it between ROTF Optimus and Cybertron Megatron. Tucking his arms away for jet mode feels like a less-fussy version of transforming ROTF Optimus' arms for truck mode.
2. He has a lot of intricate small parts that you seemingly haven't noticed
3. If he had come out around the same time as the Unicron Trilogy Movie 1-3 Leaders, he (being one size class above them) would have only been priced at $50-$55. He's $80 today because he still has the level of mass a Supreme-class figure from that time period would have (unlike, say, modern Leader-class figures, which are featherweights compared to Leaders from that era and yet have the same price - or a little higher).

After a long hiatus, Earthrise Prime, Walgreens Ratchet, Smashdown, and Walmart Soundblaster. I wasn’t gonna buy Transformers anymore because the whole Unicron thing really rubbed me the wrong way and made me reconsider collecting anything at all, but I decided to get back into it after some thought. They’re all great figures, but I gotta say that Prime might be the best mass market non-MP figure I have ever seen.

And I'm glad you're enjoying your new figures.

The whole campaign represented everything that sucks about collecting. The manipulative “Unicron needs your help” headlines that Seibertron posted, the feeling of obligation to buy new stuff, seeing people here talk about how buying it might put a strain on their finances. Just pointless consumerism and a monument to stupid excess in the name of toxic nostalgia. It made me think hard about the ethics of collecting literally anything and if these things even provide enough enjoyment to justify the time and money. My initial conclusion was that they don’t, but I came to realize that I was still expecting them to be a major hobby that occupies much of my time and thoughts like when I was a kid which is just not the way it is for any hobby for me now. I’m a grown adult with other more pressing concerns and if an action figure provides a few days of fun before getting put on a shelf until the next time it tickles my fancy, that may be good enough. I’m still not fully decided on if collecting is simply just a hobby or a negative aspect of consumerist culture though. I know this is a bit disjointed, but that’s a decent approximation of what happened and how I feel now.

Just purchased Studio Series WWII Bumblebee today. I'm kinda worried about one thing, are loose hips a common problem because of his heavy backpack and unusual heel joints.

Other than that he looks really cool and his 8-barrel pistol looks just like something movieverse ironhide and hound would be proud of. ;)^
