Does anyone know why the Targetmasters with the Takara Legends versions of the Titan Masters had knee articulation but the Hasbro Siege Battle Masters do not? Feels like a step back in both articulation and transformation.

That is exactly it. Armada sideswipe deserve a decent figure, not the sad excuse of a toy that hasbro gave us.

That, and another factor that ties into it is the ease of retooling. TakaraTomy has no problems making standalone figures, but Hasbro almost always designs them to be able to have molds switched out.

To top it off, it's also likely a matter of the Hasbro and Takara ones each simply adhering to the differing needs of different target audiences. Takara's Targetmasters were being geared towards collectors who'd be more likely the pose and display their figures, while Hasbro's Battle Masters are geared towards both kids and collectors, factoring in the need for the Battle Masters to be durable enough to withstand any roughness from children's playtime.

Having examined a few of both Takara's Targetmasters and Hasbro's Battle Masters, myself, the Takara ones have a bit more articulation but are also a bit on the delicate side, while the Hasbro ones are lacking in some articulation but are also sturdier and more durable than Takara's.

Hasbro does have to cater to all ages and their Battle Masters are waaaaaaaay more durable than the couple of Takara ones I have.

Can someone with more knowledge please tell me how likely a truly good combiner is in this line?

I think people would go crazy for the individual bots alone in some cases (hello, Bruticus), but obviously Hasbro's model is re-use of moulds, so... What could be made to work in theory?

And I don't want to be collecting across multiple lines just to build something wildly off-colour or whatever!

There's been nothing hinted at in this particular line (Selects is a different matter entirely and they are giving us access to the Takara King Posideon) I'd say not likely for Earthrise. The next part is an unknown though.

Yeah, that's what I figure. I really want something that, to me, looks great individually AND together. What we're seeing so far is niche compared to Devastator or Bruticus.

It does feel like we'd have to wait for a whole new line and not just part 3 of the trilogy, with the continual re-use of moulds and parts. Hell we haven't even seen the show yet and we're already well into part 2 in toy terms.

Equally it'd be crazy for the show to be a hit and not be producing the appropriate toys alongside it. You have to wonder what impact there'll be on release schedules (like Marvel Legends waves and re-releases being affected by movies).

What gives me any any sort of hope is that we've gotten/are getting the likes of Omega Supreme and Scorponok, and that the IDW comics seem to have been quite an influence.

They seem to have fast tracked every viable Gestalt for Earthrise in recent years. Other than Raiden, at a stretch. For example, Monstructor wouldn't exactly fit the brief.

Besides, nearly all of the major G1 Combiners have been done and accounted for by Combiner Wars, Unite Warriors, and Power of the Primes. None of the combiners covered by those lines really need any redoing, and it's still pretty early to even be thinking of such.

I know, but for an upcoming show with Netflix exposure that already has a strong IDW influence, I've been starting to wonder. Plus the current toys are WAY ahead of whatever lore we eventually get. You're seeing relatively deep cuts character-wise in a line that has a lot of exposure in stores and is backed up by Generations Select.

Basically, I'm thinking more for the mainstream than those of us who know about past releases. And this is only a half-baked idea at best ;) , but if Grapple becomes Hotspot, Ironhide/Ratchet becomes First Aid, slightly modernise Groove so that he could be used again elsewhere etc... way down the line could you see Defensor, for instance?

The old-fashioned Earthrise reveals just have me hopeful for more Earth alt modes that could lead to a combiner I guess

Now if that were Furman's IDW influence on a show, that would be something really interesting to watch. If we're talking RiD/OP/TAAO/MTMTE/LL as an influence. That sounds potentially worse than Unicron Trilogy or Beast Machines.

Actually I think they mean the new IDW continuity, which as we know is heavily modeled on the siege detailing. Also the Unicron Trilogy was fun and a great era for fans with some great toylines, they served the target market well. Plus we all know that MTMTE cartoons in the same vein as DCs animated fare would be awesome as that series would lend itself well to motion. Like an animated red Dwarf.

Though Siege fan I can say with 100% percent certainty that there will be no combining hot-spot from the Earthrise grapple mold. A lot more work has to go into designing a combiner torso, while grapple is clearly grapple (with in built inferno retool)

Tonally, the Siege aesthetic would be best suited to emulating Stormbringer, Megatron: Origin or (Best case scenario) Last Stand of The Wreckers.

An MTMTE cartoon would be as good a Transformers show as the Christmas Special was for Star Wars...

Been going through the entire IDW run in timeframe order so I've no idea what section I've been reading sometimes! I just know I like the long form storytelling and humour.

That would work extremely well on Netflix.

Haven't actually got that far yet! My take is that Hasbro have been paying reasonable attention to IDW past and present at least, and I'm expecting Siege flashbacks to encompass eras like the books. Allows for multiple jump on points for EVERYTHING.

IDW have been great, the catch-all Force Awakens of Transformers
lore.

The way I see new moulds is Hasbro will be looking their investment back soon enough, even if it's only in visual ideas they can re-use later. Like adding tiny details to the Ironhide mould or whatever. I don't think any company only looks at an entire re-use but definitely whatever's useful long term.

Speculations Regarding Upcoming Quintesson and Quintessa Figures

Postby william-james88 » Sun Nov 17, 2019 10:37 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
While there have been many rumours for what we will get in Earthrise, I wanted to concentrate on the ones that were the most unexpected and the most mysterious, the voyager Quintesson and deluxe Quintessa figures. While we published a few articles describing what different users, who claim to have seen these toys, have stated, it was varied enough that it comes down to speculation. So why not do that and take some educated guesses?

The only thing that is more than just a rumour are the listings from Hasbro (that have since been taken down) which name a voyager Quintesson and a deluxe Quintessa. It's rather interesting that even though Quintessons are a G1 staple since the 86 movie, they haven't appeared much in toylines. The last time we got one from Hasbro was in the Energon line from the previous decade. And even then, it was more an homage to G1 rather than an actual representation of the G1 characters. It seems the only Quintesson related characters we keep getting are the Sharkticons.

But now, finally, we are getting a Quintesson figure and a voyager, no less. While fans were wondering if it would transform or not, the latest rumours indicate that it will in some way. It is meant to be a mainline figure in a Transformers line so that does make sense and I would speculate as such. Of course, I'd expect the Quintesson mode (the only mode we have seen in the cartoon) will be the main one and what it transforms into to be a secondary function. Then again the Siege line gave us a good example of a G1 toy that only had one mode back in the day, Brunt, and it turned out to be a pretty good transforming toy. The fact that some rumours did mention a rotating head gimmick would mean this is the Judge type Quintesson (which seems to be the default type when thinking of Quintessons).

Image

As for the deluxe Quintessa figure, the mystery is we don't even know what that could even be. Sure, we had a Quintessa in the Last Knight movie but the Generations line has been bent on G1. Even Barricade, who would be a crossover character from the films, was released in a fully G1 look as opposed to a Generations style version of his movie look, which has already been designed. Just to say that in the Generations line, the Quintessa figure would probably not even look like what she was in the film, nor even be a crossover character. We also need to remember that Quintessa is also the name of the planet and Hasbro has been known to change a character's name into a location associated to that character when releasing a toy (like Darkmount). So what else could that Quintessa listing be? Well, since it's a deluxe and we are getting G1 Quintessons, I would speculate something in regards to G1. If Hasbro is indeed going down that line to give us toys from that part of the G1 film, the other candidates for toys could be the Prosecutor or Professor type Quintesson. Another possibility, especially when thinking of it transforming, would be the Allicons. These are characters we never got before. Then again we could always get several of these Quintesson themed characters since while we know only of two listings, there could be more we do not know about.

Image

So this is what is out there being discussed and I wanted to bring that here. What do you hope the Quintesson figure to look like? And what do you think the Quintessa figure reffers to? What would be ideal to you? Let us know!

Ideally for me, the Quintessa figure would be an Allicon. I don't really have a preference for the Quintesson though
