The gallery is making me indecisive on the destination I want to take. Do I go the more expensive but more available Siege route, or the aftermarket Titans Return one with the full train?
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

I'd say it depends on if you want a Cybertronian mode Astrotrain or an Earth Mode Astrotrain. I'd be tempted to get this leader Class and the Sentinel Prime version of the Titans Returns mold to get the experience of both.

@Siebs how was Leader Class Astrotrain to handle?

I will be replacing the TR version with this one, and I suspect I will not be alone. You might be able to find the TR version affordable on ebay once the Siege version hits retail.

Liking all the astrotrains but sticking with TR version for size and price, he's displayed in robot mode so the earth trains not that important and he will go better with the siege alts anyways. Might be tempted to pick up the classics astrotrain as it looks nice in the white coloring to be different enough from the others.

I was going to get Astro if I found a good sale/clearance, but the gallery pics have convinced me to just skip it all together. Hell, with Earthrise around the corner, the whole siege line will be a happily forgotten Bad memory.

What about the siege line did you find disappointing? Was it just the alt mode choices? Plus Astrotrain is getting released in Earthrise as well ;)

Plus, let's be real, Astrotrain was probably going to be in Earthrise originally anyway, the same with the likes of other late Siege additions like Spinister and maybe even Apeface. Astrotrain especially does not have Cybertronian alt modes. Spinister is a more stylized helicopter and can maybe pass as Cybertronian, and Apeface's jet mode is alien enough, but not his gorilla mode. They were all likely meant to come out in 2020, but Hasbro scrambled to put together just one more wave of Siege product to meet demand for the holidays this year. It makes sense that they'd pinch from the next series to come and just push up the production schedule a bit on the Earthrise plans.

I'll stick with my Takara TR version. That "battle damage" on the shuttle mode is bleh and it just seems redundant at this point to have another one so soon. I dunno. I'm glad a lot of people will be happy with him, though.

Scored the fan vote 3-pack and the wave 4 Micros tonight. Gotta say, I think Powertrain and ironworks are 2 of the best Micromasters released.

Also, Impactor finally has his proper head and he is fantastic. He is now perfect. Aragon is very tight in a good way, his 2 halves stick together much better than Cog, and he is a better toy from that mold. He also finishes a great set of Powerdashers.

And then Mirage. Apparently he isn't very popular, but gosh I love him. he looks awesome! And can take some great effects pictures

My thinking is that we will loop back to Cybertron with more late G1 stuff.

With Unicron coming in 2021, the third line could be themed around his arrival, which would require the story to go back to Cybertron to defend it in its darkest hour.

I suspect the same with Crosshairs.

toycave_studios wrote:That "battle damage" on the shuttle mode is bleh...

I agree, though it's again, understandable, given that the battle damage was likely a late edition to an Earthrise release to make it look more like it fit with Siege. Some other Siege figures have eschewed battle damage too, like Prowl, Bluestreak, and Smokescreen, but they can get by on being vaguely "Cybertronian" in design, which Astrotrain definitely cannot, so he needs something to fit the theme of Siege. Battle damage paint apps are an easy "fix."

Man I am so into Siege Astrotrain, like completely, but I just cant see enough there to replace my Legends Astrotrain. Maybe if I see him really cheap I may. Though I did just get my Fan Vote Impactor and Mirage, love them. Aragon is a nice surpise as my first weaponizer, and has really tight joints. Actually all 3 do. This Impactor is the Impactor I have always wanted. Holo Mirage is cool enough and will be fun with actual Mirage.

EDIT: I also got the 3 pack for 25$ :D

Astrotrain's car/launchpad makes me want a 5-car train combiner. Steam engine, maybe a coal car, maybe a tanker car, maybe passenger cars, and a red caboose. Or maybe an Amtrak style train. But I think I would enjoy the old style train more.

Those pictures made me think of a new version of the Mirage character and his abilities that would be cool to maybe do in a future story.

Instead of Mirage's ability to go completely invisible, his ability is to detach his "spirit" from his body as a holographic projection that can go clear when he's standing still but is visible if he moves, he wouldn't be able to interact with anything by touch but would be weak to electromagnetic weapons or things like Starscream's nullray which could risk Mirage to destabilization.

Mirage looks so good. With my having just picked up Barricade tonight, Mirage is the only wave 4 Deluxe I still need, and I can't wait to find him. I hope he gets redecoed and/or retooled in his unreleased G2 colors, or his Machine Wars deco, or as Crasher or someone through Selects.

Have Apeface and Crosshairs been officially released yet? I see that a bunch of people got them already.

Apeface's Amazon page is gone completely and Crosshairs says "Currently Unavailable" as opposed to the pre-order button + release date.

How is he too small? He scales really well with the rest of the cast, Astrotrain has never towered over the likes of Megatron in the toon. That's the scale guide hasbro are working off, and I think it's a step forward if the figures while not big, are not slouching off using the plastic to fill out any hollow parts.

I agree, way too many think that he has to be super tall to justify the price.

This wouldn't be a voyager figure, even removing the cab and extra weapons he would of probably been more hollow at that price.

Astrotrain hasn't been some giant guy in robot mode, that's only ever applied in shuttle mode but this was also in the same series where everyone's sizes changed whether it was animation errors or if they mass shifted when turning into vehicle mode.
