Ew, the last thing we need is more DBZ Gundam. I mean, not only was it a terrible concept, with equally terrible designs (The Shining and God Gundams were okay, but it was largely a sea of crap), but the overabundance of toys pretty much killed the Gundam market in the US.

It's the only Gundam series I've ever watched all the way through. I love the crazy designs and how over the top it was. Domon and Rain kill the Devil Gundam with a literal king of hearts. How awesome is that?

VERY awesome. :D

Not the least bit awesome at all is the correct answer. They took everything good about Gundam, and replaced it with a bunch of rejected Shonen Jump concepts.

I actually enjoyed G Gundam. It made a nice break from the typical heavy, philosophy-laden complex storylines (not that there's anything wrong with that-Wing and 00 are some of my favorites) in previous offerings. It was basically hundreds of very unique and distinctive Gundams duking it out without being overly burdened by the story. The idea of a Gundam actually becoming a malevolent sentient being that could infect both man and machine was a strikingly novel concept that had not been done before. Yes, there were an awful lot of toys made for it, but I guess I didn't mind at the time since I bought them all.

It was different, like TFA, and hard for a lot of hardcore Gundam fans to adjust to, but I liked it.

Now SD Gundam was an entirely different story...

Ooh-back on topic: Freaks and Geeks.

Correction, the first episode of Star Trek to feature the Borg aired in 1989, five years before G Gundam began.

EDIT: Well, the idea of a sentient, viral machine was not a new concept, the idea of it being a Gundam was new.

Cobalt Prime wrote:It was different, like TFA, and hard for a lot of hardcore Gundam fans to adjust to, but I liked it.

No, it wasn't at all like TFA. Animated kept the concept of Autobots vs. Decepticons, robots that turn into vehicles etc. The only real difference was the time period, the art style, and the overall mood. They didn't rip out every single concept of Transformers and replace it with something subpar. (And before you say it, human villains are nothing new and most of the designs are ripped right out of G1, slightly modified for the art style)

Likewise on topic and I assume someone said this before, (It may have been me!) but, Freakazoid.

Firstly, I meant that the idea of a Gundam becoming sentient was unique in the Gundam universe, not in all of sci-fi as a whole. Secondly, I did not mean to infer that G Gundam was like TFA at all, but that it was a deviation from the typically accepted norms of Gundamdom, like the artwork of TFA was to the typically accepted norms of TFdom... Ah...Let us simply agree to disagree, then, Sir, before they site us for not taking this up in the American Era Gundam thread. ;)

Anyhoo...

Alien Nation. Coulda lasted at least one more season. Still a lot of ground that could have been explored, and the few follow up made for tv movies just were not enough.

I agree with you on Drive (Nathan Fillion FTW), but I thought Studio 60 went under because it was essentially a more dramatic version of 30 Rock.

The concept of Drive to me seemed better suited for mini-series than a regular series.

Tru Calling, Angel, Dollhouse, The Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Firefly, Transformers: Beast Machines, Robotech II: The Sentinels,, and of course Exo Squad now that was ONE hell of great animated series, the animation was far from perfect at times but it could rival Z Gundam, Batman: TAS, Beast Wars, and the new Battlestar Galactica for sheer awesomeness and great characters and storylines if you can check out the first season on DVD it's one of the best cartoon shows of the 90s!

And I third/fourth Exo Squad. And Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future as well.

The Cape was a lot of fun. I'm sad to see it gone. But, yeah, it's not coming back, it's gone for good. It was a one shot.

In the UK, we had a show on the BBC called Survivors, it was modern remake of a seventies drama. However the show got cancelled after just two season. It ended on a cliff hanger to, with the lead characters son being kidnapped and bundled onto a plane. Would have been nice to see how the story ended.

I never got why they decided to add anything Live-action to a channel called CARTOON Network. :BANG_HEAD:

As for Gumball, differing opinions I guess, but see, I remember cartoons like Johnny Bravo (some of Seth McFarlane's early work btw) to the newer stuff, that being said, I like some newer "funny" ones like the recently canned Chowder. I will say this about Gumball which is the same I said about Ben 10 and Clone Wars: Good premise, great potential, just fell short in actual execution.

And none of these compare to how horrible Regular Show is.

Also as an aside: WHO THE HELL thought it was a good idea to reboot Looney Tunes as a roommate sitcom and change just about everything? IMO, it's an insult to the originals...

The action was seriously lacking though. Every demon only took about three shots to kill. On one episode Dante even remarked that he hadn't seen a challenge in a while.

Another choice for me? SmallVille, I loved it, but even in TEN WHOLE SEASONS, all it was was leading UP to the point of him being superman. I think the next Superman movie, should be with the smallville actors, and tie EVERYTHING Together, but PLEASE, no spoilers, I havn't seen season 10 yet, due to my own personal Scedule. Then it would be more demons that Dante kills waaaaay faster than he should. Even Abigal, who was stated to be as powerful as Mundus, went down in only a couple minutes. Dante is good, don't get me wrong, but for a hero to really shine, they need to struggle to win.
