Unused Designs for Transformers Club Beast Wars Uprising Figures Revealed at TF Nation

Postby william-james88 » Mon Aug 22, 2016 12:53 pm

Motto: "'till All Are One"
One of the most interesting parts of last week-end's TF Nation, was their Beast Wars panel since it had a slide show which showed concept images for Beast Wars Uprising figures. These would have been from the Transformers Colelctors Club, and redecos of pre-existing molds representing characters from thir Beast Wars Uprising fiction.

Below you can see:

Beast Wars Galvatron using the Beast Hunters Optimus Prime mold
Beast Machines Rattrap using the Prime Rumble mold
Beast Wars Dinobot usig the Generations Springer mold
Beast Wars Blackarachnia using Generations Chromia mold

All of these projects, which will never be released, can be found below, enjoy!

They all look so good. If we are ever really, really, reeeaaalllyyy lucky maybe Hasbro con of Cybertron con or whatevr it's called could make these. Unfortunately, I doubt it will ever be reconsidered. :-(

Sinobot i get since we didnt get another representation in a while, but Takara did give us a Blackarachnia recently, so we do get a good take on that character.

That botanica is interesting, but it seems like there were no plans for her getting a toy.

You never know. Both the idea of having Alpha Trion be a lion and making a TM2 Megatron from the RID megatron toy wre abandonned concepts which eventually saw the light of day :)

The Dinobot and BlackArachnia, I am genuinely sorry about. The others look...cool enough. And yeah, for all that I can't stand Beast Machines, that Botanica from Prime Soundwave would've worked well enough to be worth a shot; most toyless characters have my sympathy regardless.

I'm actually surprised there weren't even more Beast Hunters molds proposed. Was Croc-Out a possibility? Maybe as Terrorgator? I still haven't read any of the fiction besides the prologue in the last magazine.

Say, maybe this has already been explained and I'm just the last to know, but what happens to all of that lost CLub-exclusive online fiction that disappeared after they were hacked? Will it just be thrown up online for free, or will Hasbro's new fan club have it once their site gets off the ground? I was a member the whole time, and really cheated myself be dragging my feet on the Shattered Glass stories.

I think the Prime Arcee Mold would have been better for Blackarchnia. Not too impressed with the Rattrap either. The Dinobot was OK.

All but two of the Club's old prose stories are currently up on their website for anyone and everyone (even non-members) to read.

Of the two missing ones, "The Razor's Edge" is still accessible via its original link since it was always open for anyone to read. Only "The Dark Heart of Sandokan" is currently still missing.

Yep. That's Magmatron based on Diaclone Reboot Diabattles V2. He's fighting a miscolored Buzzclaw.

And the guy behind Eject is Wolfang from Generations Drift.

Also, while on the subject of Uprising, the latest TCC magazine issue, #70, contained a two-page screen capture comic that provided an origin for how the Uprising universe came to be.

When BW Megatron attempted to kill G1 Optimus Prime in the season 2 finale of the Beast Wars cartoon, Blackarachnia stopped him from doing so by knocking him away via the Ark's security systems and having Silverbolt help her to get Prime on life support, with Optimus Primal then taking Prime's spark into his own body to keep it safe until Prime's head could be repaired. BUT, in this comic, an alternate take on those events occurred in which Megatron was not thrown as far away from Prime's body as he was in the cartoon. Thus, after Silverbolt got Prime on life support but before they could do anything about Prime's spark, Megatron and Inferno reentered the Ark and blasted the life support systems keeping Prime alive, once again putting him on the verge of death. But to tip the scales back against Megatron's actions, Blackarachnia uses her venom against the nearby stasis locked G1 Megatron to prevent him from ever waking in 1984 with his fellow Decepticons. Therefore, with G1 Optimus Prime dead and G1 Megatron fully out of commission by 1984, all of the Autobots and Decepticons who awoke inside the Ark were leaderless and had to fight the Great War without their respective main leaders to guide them. As a result, the war went on in an even worse way than it did in the BW cartoon's history proper, with it never coming to an end and the Autobots and Decepticons becoming so old and decrepit that they created the Maximals and Predacons as slaves forced to continue the fight in their creators' (the Builders') stead in gladiatorial arena death matches.

The purpose of tying Uprising's origin to "The Agenda" was to create a sense of dramatic irony between Uprising and the hyperbole reality mentioned in Megatron's speech given in that three parter about the "archaic energon guzzlers" making the Predacons "slaves". In his attempts to alter history for the better (for him), he ended up creating not only a worse reality but one that is an ironic reflection of the reality he spoke of in exaggeration.

What's tragic was what actually came out, presumably, in lieu of some of these: Another Tigatron, Another Airazor, Another Tarantulas, and freaking Under-Three who despite being cool isn't as cool as basically any of these (except maybe the BM Rattrap from Prime Frumble, that one's sorta meh.)

These uprising figures would've fit perfectly fine into DoTFP, and actually pretty interesting, despite the fact is hate the fiction. Instead of this funpub decided to go with Dawn of the predicus which has some of the worst club figures, ever, one of the worst club comics, ever, and some of the worst promotion, ever. I would go so far to say the toys and fiction for dawn of the predicus are a BETRAYAL to beast wars. Eat my ass funpub.

I won't disagree that Dawn of the Predacus was a terrible story, but you know good and well that it was all Hasbro who pushed for 2016 to be a Combiner Wars set and that the story was all IDW/John-Paul Bove's headcanon. Fun Pub merely coordinated with the two to both comply with their wishes and release everything to the specific venue. Scorn where scorn is due. Blame Hasbro for forcing the CW theme on the set and Bove for his nonsensical headcanon story.

In regards to the Club's character choices of recent times, Jesse Wittenrich chimed in about that:
In all seriousness, with all of the great, great collector-oriented toys coming out at retail and the Masterpiece line totally hitting a crazy stride, it is (was) very tricky coming up with repaints that would still appeal to the collector market.

Obscure G1 characters were becoming a lot less obscure and it was at times impossible to tell just what was outside of Hasbro/Takara Tomy's focus. Non-beast Beast Wars, unreleased concepts (be it G1, G2, or something like CW Ruckus), and Shattered Glass were really the only "safe" places to start digging for homages. And yeah those are pretty niche, so no expectations that everyone would love them.
