They shouldn't be slowing the web pages to a crawl. If you could provide screen captures of problematic ads, that would be more helpful so that we can report them to Google and/or disable the problematic ads, rather than disabling the ads with Adblock. Please help us out by providing screen captures of the problematic ads. Thanks.

If I may add to this: the static ones and the ones with animated gifs load perfectly fine for me. It's the streaming videos that are a problem on my end. I had to have the browser (FireFox 52.0.2 32-bit) block some plugins that run video ads on some sites, and they've been loading and working fine since.

Ironically, in the problem reporting thread I can't get the "first unread post" buttons to work. I get the message "The requested topic does not exist" instead. And it's only in this thread.

That's just it. ALL the adds are animated gif. So, add on, Seibertron is slow as a snail for me. Especially when posting becuase the confirmation page have the same adds too!

The solution would be simple. Make the adds single static pictures only. When the page refresh, then the picture change. I turn off my adblock for many sites, notably Youtube and there is no problems. But I turn it back on when it make navigating the site painful.

Don't get me wrong, I'd really like to support you.. but not at the price of an annoting experience.

The animated GIFs are not a problem. They are minimal in size in today's modern world. Are you on a really old or slow computer?

The only ads that could potentially be an issue are some of the more media complex ads served from Google in the 728x90 spot in the header, the 336x280 spot in the right hand column, and the 160x600 tower ad in the lower right column. Those are the ones that appear to be sporadically problematic from Google. The ones for the home grown advertisers are just animated GIFs. The ads from our homegrown advertisers are only 619kb and should cache in your browser so you should only be downloading those the first time that you visit the site.

There may be those 3 you are talking about. If these adds are in Flash, my Firefox just give up.

Are you running the latest Flash plugin in Firefox? Are you running the latest version of Firefox?

Here are instructions from Firefox on how to update the Flash plugin.

Hopefully someone else will help us isolate which ads are causing problems then if there are problematic ads being served from Google's ad network. We had some a couple of weeks ago which I was able to finally figure out which ones and blocked them. Since then, it doesn't seem to be a problem, though your messages conflict with that, so hopefully someone else can help us figure out if there are other ads that are a problem.

I'll test with adblock off for a few days and see how it turn out then.

But if possible, it would be nice to make the page "Post posted successfully" add-free to speed things up.

I've definitely noticed an improvement in the ads in the last couple days. The AdChoices ads never give me trouble and lately that's all I've gotten.

The ads shouldn't affect the speed of any page if you are on a decent modern internet connection.

Well, look like the adds issue is fixed because appart the clutter, the speed is now unnafected.

Now let's hope there will be no unexpected adds that will blow a LOUD "air horn".
(It did happen on some sites!)

Testing after changing meta refresh from 1 second to 0 seconds. Not sure that's necessary though since there was a link to click and it's only 1 second we're talking about.

testing again ... it's taking longer than it should to refresh automatically for some reason, but it's not related to the ads.

Ack. I just went through the three primary Google products that are used in Seibertron.com's code: DFP (which is used to serve our homegrown ads), Adsense (which serves the Google generated ads), and Google Analytics. I found some old code that was no longer valid or is no longer used, that was causing a jQuery error in the code. I thought it was an error from Google, but it turns out it was old or unused ajax code in the header. I verified the code for the 3 Google products and removed the offending code. This might have impacted the speed of the pages as well.

Let me know how things are loading for you guys now or if you guys encounter any further errors.

Well, let's see now...

Pages load at normal speed, but the confirmation screen is subject to mood swings.
:KREMZEEK: I suppose.

I corrected some additional javascript errors that were caused at some point by moving Javascript files from the header to the footer. This has been resolved.

I'm unable to duplicate this problem. Has anyone else had this issue? Can anyone walk us through the process you are going through to report a sighting in the sightings section? Are you doing it by finding the store first or by finding the item first?
